      Bluetooth frustrates me a lot because of its piss poor standard. BT headphones worth $100 sound like absolute shit when you compare them to wired headphones with similar specs at $80. Plus, bluetooth doesn't play nice with internet calls. Discord calls make the sound quality on other applications drop significantly because of bluetooth's profile bullshit.

The headphones are going to play gibberish if they receive gibberish no matter how good they are." like dude seriously? You can never pick a side.
      I'm done with this whole bullshit honestly, what's a flagship device without basic functionality like a fucking headphone jack? They should've never switched until we had a proper solution. Apple just tried to get an advantage and EVERYONE jumps into it. They created airpods and now everyone is making truly wireless buds. I could give so many examples but I just want apple to stop already. For the love of smartphones please stop, we have had enough already.

    Really the only issues with them are that it gets static-y when close to devices that produce EMI (Microwaves, Routers, LED Light-bulbs...) and that you need a mini radio tower strapped to your device.

      I kind of find it weird how Bluetooth is using similar technology to RF, yet is worse than RF in the audio department (Bluetooth is pretty good for quick data transfers). And this tech has been around for a really long time, heck it wouldn't surprise me if IR headphones are better than Bluetooth at syncing with videos.

    • @Razor2048
      @Razor2048 Před 4 lety +16

      Those older RF ones tend to be analog transmissions, while it means effectively no delay, there is al no privacy. If you live near any older studio like place (low budget stuff) and you have a basic SDR, you can listen in on wireless microphones really easily. Bluetooth while it has delays and lower overall quality due to the throughput limitations of the standard, there are no practical ways of listening in on what is being transmitted.

    Hey, what can't we use Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth?

    • @Glaggle
      @Glaggle Před 4 lety

      I suspect it has to do with the power requirements of the 802.11 vs 802.15. The 802.15 standards outlined for low-power devices (anything that needs a long battery life, for example), whereas 802.11 prioritises speed and bandwidth. An increase in speed is proportional to an increase in power usage, which is why Bluetooth is generally slow. For transmitting large chunks of data, Bluetooth can temporarily "switch" to the 802.11 rules but this consumes far more power and is done in a controlled environment. Maximum speed/quality and maximum battery life are mutually-exclusive goals.
      For reference, WiFi Direct can achieve 250Mbps (megabits, not megabytes) whereas Bluetooth 4.0 can only reach 25. That is why the sound quality on Bluetooth soundsets inevitably sucks: the bitrate requires so much compression for instantaneous playback.

      Yeah, and to be honest I don't notice that much latency. So the fact that he had to do this to emphasize the point seems a bit petty.
