- Walshy's Halo History: Episode 1 - Featuring MLG Puckett
I will bring in guests from week to week to talk about favorite Halo memories and the local scenes that many new players may not know of. -- Watch live at / walshy
Walshy, thank you. I've enjoying following you through your career since 2006 from my country Mexico, and let me tell you: WHAT A RIDE,
I was and still am a passionate gamer thanks to gamers like you, commentators like Pucket, events organizers like MLG, and extra content like your montage.
Puckett is such a great commentator and public speaker, I really miss him casting Halo
CKY hahahaha
The CE playlist is the most fun I've had with Halo since 2010.
Walshy, it's pretty awesome to see you uploading videos again. :)
Puckett will always, for me, be the best halo commentator ever! I loved back when him and Sundance DiGiovanni would talk about the various teams, and it was even awesome when Gandhi was picked up (and Shockwave not long after!) I really hope the new Halo can truly revive the old H2 and H3 MLG days!
This was so nostalgic listening to as someone who went to chi 05 Orlando 06 NY, remember rasta Bob Marley shirt strongside 1v1 finals against Chicago 05
Love thinking about the good old days
Very thankful these were uploaded
For years I played Halo CE everyday after work until I HAD to get to bed. Good times.
Oh man can’t wait to listen to the rest of Halo History. I didn’t even get into Halo until H3 but I still love hearing about this stuff.
i always love listening about the early days of halo and about the OG monsters of Halo. i hope you keep this series up ! great stuff!
this was great! thanks for doing this guys
Interested in being on of the episodes?
Dude! I'm not worthy but I'd be honored.
Walshy Dude, you and puckett are the best duo commentators. Please, please make more!!
Nexy the mannnnnn!!
Holy shit clockwork started in Halo? I only knew him from his android work. That's so great
Clockwork was fkn sick at halo. :)
look at Old AGP results. He was one of the top players
i was at agp4 in DC :)...got pooped on mt TDT
What was his Android work?
This series has a ton of potential! I love hearing the history of Halo from people who have been there from the start and who are knowledgeable about the game. Good stuff!
Hp darkman baby. The real old school. Used to play with xena and her brothers
what is Darkman up to these days? does he still play at all? Why didn't he want to compete after Halo CE??
Really enjoyable watch bro keep the series going!
This was hilarious. I love remembering my stories and comparing. Plus getting beat both times and hearing puck say we're washed up lol. Please make more
This is really cool! Keep the series up, Walshy.
Walshy this is great! Love watching these!
Any time I pop into the CDL broadcast and see Puckett I instantly get hit with nostalgia from the H3 days
Great vid, keep up the good work Walshy! :D
Awesome, I miss those days. I remember when ur second halo 2 montage hit the scene, so good. I miss the quad shots, bxr's, and bxbs. By far my favorite halo game across the board. Truly an inspiration my dude. Drag shotting the sniper in two was beautiful too, all the games glitches or defects was what made the game much more intense taking a lot of skill to incorporate and pull off in game.
Dude player interviews would be so hype :D so glad you're doing this
I really enjoy these videos and it really brings me back to the days of playing Halo 1 & 2 for hours on end every single night after high school. The old school halo community was unrivaled and that community doesn't exist in the same way in today's gaming world. MLG, HIH and HBO were literally my life for years. Thanks for these videos.
Massachusetts scene baby, Probably dont remember me but I attended 2004 AGP Philly MLG ATL and Boston teamed with someone you probably remember playing against in Halo 1 and 2, RoS/ IGS McGavin/HuGo/TomAce
I enjoyed watching you play Halo CE while you talked about your history with the game, interesting perspective! Keep it coming! Id love to hear more about the discoveries made in the game, especially as Halo 2 came out and had countless "secrets" such as obvious button glitches, super jumps, etc. I think you or puckett made a great point about how the gaming community changed. Because at the time people were still figuring out countless aspects to the game, as opposed to the gaming community now who can just look on CZcams and find all the secrets.
would love for a second episode of this!
Great video! Definitely need to post more if this series
So cool to see these players that I remember being gods back when EVERY 10-25 year old was playing CE and then Halo 2 and Xbox live first launched. Just rekindled it all after getting Halo MCC. Great memories.
I would really love to see more of this series. I really enjoy hearing about the early days of Halo. Keep it up man!
Walshy just brings a smile to my face. I don't know why. Keep doing you Walshy.
2005-2010 was like the peak of competitive FPS.
Walshy & Puckett were 2 of the most definitive people of that era.
You should always be proud of that.
I think it was the exact time that gaming hit the main stream.
When guys like me stopped viewing it as a thing for "nerds" & something for everyone.
We were seriously coming home from football games on Friday nights & playing Halo 3 all night after a long ass game.
It was a really cool time.
The thing that got me into was a LAN setup at our local small town movie theater after hours.
At the time, it was Halo 2.
The first few meetups was multi-team tower of power.
After that, it switched to competitive.
I only had an Xbox for NBA Live & Madden, but I instantly started playing Halo 2 online.
By about the 3rd month, it had switched over to Halo 3 & I went from being one of the random scrubs to being a team captain (best 4 players had to be team captains to keep things competitive).
I do remember you showed up one time playing at a friend of the time Col Tofu at MLG Chicago. I missed out on the LAN session that night -- sleep after tons of Halo -- but I hear it was really good.
Getting good at Halo was hard work back then. Even the thought of having unlimited games online, voice chat, and with no lag, man you just didn't have it back then.
We beat most of the people we played in Wisconsin but unfortunately you had to travel alot to play anyone decent, and I was in college at the time. Like you I had a group of friends that were "good" in that they were fun to kill but weren't really a challenge. We would get some better challenges traveling to Illinois, but it was still not what I would call upper level like you or STK -- I wonder if they still go by that lol, I remember they had a pretty sweet geocities looking site.
What actually got me to a decent level where I could beat most people with a pistol was playing against Strange Purple and watching him play at a tournament in Illinois. Back then you didn't have videos online to watch the players, so I came up with the idea that I should study what these guys were doing. I got really good with the pistol just from watching how he used it. I think he was on the ogres team at the time in Chicago too.
Whats funny is my best memory of that tournament is assassinating you on the second round FFA on Battle Creek on top of one of the bases. I think that was the only time I had seen you because you were holding high point - of course - and I was stuck down. I got knocked out that round but it was fun. We played our 4v4 with some random guys we chatted up online, literally no practice just dropped in and played to play it. It was better than bringing two of our college buddies. 2v2 was really why we went anyways and that's what I had the most fun in.
I would have liked to get better and really compete but when I look back now, I was putting in some serious work on that game. We couldn't get local competition so we would just play on other players XBC connections and make the best of it. 12 hour days of Halo and XBC all summer. It's funny I think we played at least one of the ogres, maybe two - in a few 2v2s on there at one point. They took hangem and we took chillout, but it was on our host so it felt worthless. They actually gave us info on the ohio guys we met up with to play in MLG Chicago. It definitely was some of my best memories. I will say shooting a pistol is like riding a bicycle, it comes back right away in MCC even though those skills lay dormant in me for almost a decade. Anyways this post got long fast. Thanks for making the cool videos, I would've killed for these back in the CE days.
Great show. Your stories are so similar to my memories with Halo CE. I grew up in a small town called Garrettsville in Ohio. We had a game shop called Area X that would host tournaments. I used to beat the crap out of the local kids and I thought I was the shit, until the Ogres came through and whooped our asses. Them and a team called Death2All (D2A) from Sandusky. Those Were the days. Keep the memories coming. Love the show.
This series is pretty cool, it is displaying the old competitive scene. Very interesting.
Love the comment about realizing there are people better than you outside your circle. I never knew about xbox connect until it was too late so I only played at my house. But playing H2 when XBL came out made me realize how awful I really was. Keep up the nostalgic videos Walsh. Would love to hear a coming up story about Kiaeneto too (even if I am still salty with how they went under).
I remember some awesome times for Halo 1 and Halo 2 LANs including a couple where you actually showed up to some local tournaments in Michigan.
Keep these up Walsh! Go as deep into the halo 1 history as u can. I can't get enough
Sexual innuendos?
giggity
Hey walshy. didnt know you'd done this, wish i caught this when you first uploaded it. Got to speak with you at EGLX about the good 'ol days of h2 at mlg, and this is basically an extended version. Keep up the great work!
Id love to hear about your personal halo history specifically from start to finish... I know that's kind of the idea behind this series but it would be cool to have a history of washy video... Either way, great video I really enjoyed it
I remember getting lan parties going in my towns local library back in the day. Those were the halo days I miss.
TLDR: I thought I had a chance of getting good one day in Halo 1 but gave it up for a regular life.
I knew the Ogre's and I knew of Puckett back in Pickerington. I was probably close to their level on Halo 1 back in the day since I played the Campaign tons on Legendary during the summer and played tons of LAN parties with friends every weekend. I was one of the best of our groups of friends and we challenged the Ryan bros one time early into Halo 1. Sadly my friends chickened out. I won a FFA tourney round and got invited back at the Ohio state fair put on that same summer we played a lot of LAN, but sadly again I didn't continue playing. I think if I'd known there was a legit career possibility in gaming back when Halo 1 was getting this big I'd have stuck with it. I listened to my parents tell me it was a waste of time and went to college and hated it.
At least you have those memories bro. "What ifs" always haunt us but at least you're still successful in life
loving the activity :)
Who’s here at the end of 2018 😎
Great vids Dave!
You and I are about the same age (I may be a bit older, actually, I turned 35 this February) and I clearly remember my CE days as well. I was 17 and skipped school to go over to a friend's house where a bunch of my core group of friends would always hang out, and my friend Jesse had bought an XBOX, which I'd heard of but couldn't afford myself. He was playing the Halo campaign, and I immediately wanted an XBOX once I saw (and heard) the grunts lol.
Within a month, myself and a few other friends all were all regularly going to my friend Mike's house, playing 4x4's on two old tube TVs setup in his garage with 3 couches and 2 mini-fidges for HOURS on end. Disputes were settled in 1v1s, there were always at least a dozen or more other people (in addition to the 8 playing) at Mike's house just hanging out and occasionally one or more would want to jump in for a game or two... it was THE best time playing video games I have ever had, and I have been avidly playing video games since the late 80's back on the Atari & NES!
I even went to a few local Florida LAN events for Halo. Didn't stick with it and go on to MLG stardom or anything, but I definitely was a contender back then in my prime. I am absolute trash now, of course lol. Hearing you talk about your history/stories reminded me of mine and I just wanted to share with you and hopefully bring a smile to your face in return for the one you put on mine!
Cheers buddy!
Hey Dave, loved the video, very nostalgic! I haven't checked out all these videos of yours yet but I def will. With that said I think a video of "where are they now" for old halo pros would be great. Like WTF happened to Zyos right? And that time Ogre 1 left to Australia or something? Also a video on getting older as a pro gamer and the challenges that come with it, I don't think anyone would be more qualified to speak on that than you. You were one of the oldest pros left at one point.
wow i played XBC so much back in the day but never really paid attention to who i was facing. i wonder if i played with all the pros
Wags, Killer N, Acer, Tema. JSF in the house
Hey walshy, I ref'ed several of your 1 on 1 matches at the AGP events, saw you do some sick stuff, especially with grenades on wizard! I remember you losing to darkman then came back and dominate him in the next event lol.
what ever happened to Darkman! The original Halo Pro!!
These could easily be uploaded to sticher/itunes to have as an audio podcast, would be dope!
Walshy, I grew up watching you play and always knew about ya. Even though I'm a few years older than you, I always looked up to your skills! Stay in the game homie! Thanks for years of entertainment!
Puckett made Halo just that much more fun to watch
glad to see your still making videos. im gonna get that final boss nike hoodie!
You ever end up getting it? I bought one probably 2 month after you posted that comment and I love it. I'm in Canada so it cost like $145 with shipping lmao. I would never buy a hoodie for that price. This being an exception. :)
haha no the shop was sold of out it when i looked out for it.
I miss Pucket's commentary
Darkman, Bigsauce, strangepurple, zyos, the ogres hell there was some great players, was such a fun game to watch! Being on the west coast didn't get to many great XBC players, few guys in a squad called Nt from Seattle that were ok but man great series! -Gauge-
Every time Puckett speaks it sounds like he's commenting. Including when he calls out
haha at 22:48 you talk about getting that wake up call... Walshy and what was left of PS showed up at my hometown game store (Area X) in Garrettsville Ohio for a cash prize tournament, as well as the Ogres and their practice noobs and you all wrecked house. We thought we were awesome until that moment lol.
I have no real Halo CE memories. I was the only person in my school with an xbox, everyone else had a ps2 or gamecube.
Ahh memories and nostalgia. The MCC is seriously the greatest thing 343 and Microsoft could have ever given us. It's such a blast. I hope Halo 5 turns out to be as good as it's shaping up to be because it looks to be reverting a lot of the crap that made Halo 4 casual. They actually listened to us. Lets hope Halo 5 can turn things around and make Halo a champion competitive game once more!
love the bio walshy
we used to lan at my church every Wednesday before youth group, would run 16 people and there was a line about 30-40 kids that would play. man the good old days.
+Thefinalcure CZcams ahhhh im going to youth group in an hour :( no halo in mine ._.
Oh my god halo ce
This vid makes me want to start playing ce
I like these videos Dave! You should do some new ones, but have non-pro players (aka regular Halo fans / players) on to talk about *their* history as well! They may not have the MLG main-stage experience that pros do, but that's the interesting part! They have experiences that you & other pros may not have had and don't know. More importantly, you would probably have someone on who likely had experiences that other people have also had and can appreciate / relate to :)
Just food for thought! And of course, I would love to volunteer for one of these episodes! I love talking about Halo & my experience with it growing up. I'm about the same age as you (32) so we probably had a lot of similar experiences at least in the very, very beginning (before you got all famous and whatnot with MLG haha).
Shoutouts from Grand rapids walshy! 😀
Walshy is back
@Walshy. The_Mackeyyyy here from Twitch the other night. We talked about letting me work with you on these videos. So what I've done since then is watched all your videos, with more focus on your Halo history and Halo Essential Episodes. I am gathering all this information so I can best assist you in the EDITING party of these videos. I am 100% confident that I can exceed your standards. My editing is NOT flashy, it is smooth and very basic but effective. I'm so excited to work with you.. This will amazing.
#The_Mackeyyyy
I wish I had a group to play with when I play mcc. Nobody I know plays halo anymore
Bring this back in 2023?
Someone should take these stories, along with other prominent players from back then that helped to grow the community, and create a documentary on the competitive Halo scene. It could be done in the same vein as The Smash Brothers documentary. Walshy make this happen friend. =)
great vid, need to watch the others, but who is ogre 3?? a younger brother of ogre 1&2 ???
he's the oldest ogre and in 07 mlg circuit vids you can see him coaching fb
Walshy, Halo is my favorite game of all time. Along with you, my favorite player is Snipedown. If you could do Maybe a halo history episode or maybe a just talk about your experiences with him that would be interesting to hear about. Maybe make a series about it involving the likes of tsquared or flamesword. Thanks and you're the shit
Similar to puckett I had a group of 8 friends. My brother my neighbor and 6 of our good friends. We would lan H1 almost every night four 6+ hours. I feel like i was so spoiled barely having to play XBC because we always had at least 6 but normally all 8 people to lan with. We would easily lan 80 hours a week 4v4 at my house. So many good times playing the best game ever.
Where's the next part?
Miss Puckett's Halo hype so much. What is he up to now?
the same thing as formal, he's doing call of duty because that's where the money is.
he's kind of a host as well. he's been on rocket league, lol, dota, and csgo streams as well.
G Reg he is one of the bigger personalities MLG have
One of the major hosts for Overwatch League.
Xbox tunnel. Those were dark days. The birth of standby in Halo.
Orge 3 lol
Great vid walsh ur a fuckin legend even tho I was a carbon fan ;)
Just watching this now, where was the shoutout to PSB Walsh?! Danaconda tore the A squad to shreds!!
how do i watch these live?
never mind i just read the description lol
OGRE 3!?!?
Mind = blown
How can I choose which game I want to play just like Walshy did with halo 1? If I want to play halo 1 I have to chooce a gamemode with halo 1,2 and 3 in it... Can anyone please help me? Thanks in advance! :)
I see it now! Thanks! :D Does it change every week? Doesnt it stay the same? :(
MCC was supposed to be the resurgence of Halo but the state of matchmaking is unforgivable. We were promised 60FPS and dedicated servers. I was also expecting all the old pros to come back like Ogre 1, Killer N, TSquared, Elamite Warrior, Naded, Ghandi, Karma, Rippon, Nakamura and Walker.
Well we did get 60fps
I've played with naded before on mcc
what about super bounces?
Walshy, Do you still live in grandville,MI
telling your life story in mcc lobby
Puckett!!!!!!!!!
Ps1 controller and ps2 had two thumbsticks......
still formatting / processing vid ;)
Wasn't Maven a H1 Pro?
Walshy can you please push for Halo 3 remastered to release for PC? :( IT WOULD RESURRECT THE PRO SCENE. I want it to come back so bad...
The audio sync is off
if anybody is asking how to get xbconnect? It's not alive anymore. there's only x link kai.
Nicolas Muñiz Xlan is the new and best way to play Xbox Halo.
im daniel stanzionies brother and i hung out with you and g unit lol
Reppin that West Side Columbus, Ohio! ^___^
oni methodz? Someone I went to highschool teamed with him I remember.
Haha saw this live :P
same
PS dual shock had two thumbsticks huehuehuehue
MSU shout out! Glad to hear the place was a dump lol
Favorite Halo memory: Halo 2 comes out, and our deadbeat social studies teacher who didn't give a shit let us bring our Xboxes in and play in class XD Foundation Rockets Fiesta ftw! That or the miracle my techie friend pulled so we could somehow LAN Halo 1 in my mom's van on the way to Cedar Point
mcc was 8 years ago..
