Here's a dive into my history with Halo on PC, and why I think a LOT more work needs put into preserving such a great legacy.

Halo really got me into gaming, it's one of my favorite game series hands down
I am 18 from Spain. When I was six halo 3 was released and I saw a trial game test in a shop centre It was the first contact I had with videogames, I wanted to play it so much but my father couldn't afford an Xbox 360 so my uncle gave me his Xbox original with the halo ce that is the way I was introduced to videogames, nowadays play halo 1, 2,3 give me so much nostalgia. and back memories .
Halo Custom Edition was fun back in the day. Jumping in a random server, chatting to other players and adding each other on Xfire. These are some of the gaming memories I hold dear. đđđ
When the xfire screen popped up I lost it. So many memories. Sniper matches that lasted forever on Bloodgulch. All the custom edition maps I played. I was lucky enough to find a guild that ran their own website and server and had a map pack on the site for the custom rotation. It was my golden age of Halo.

Haha, I could write a novel about how much Halo CE (combat evolved) means to me, but I'll keep it short. I am absolutely an OG Xbox purist, and even though I have played the pc version, I can't stand any other version or sequel beyond the original.
I played it when it came out, and had fun for a few months, but eventually just moved on. It wasn't until 2003, when a buddy came over to try out Rainbow 6 Raven Shield, and we started playing Halo while taking turns. We soon just started playing CE multiplayer, and invited a couple other buddies over that happened to be near. I had never played mp with more than one tv, but soon after, were getting LANs going with 4 tvs, and full teams. For the next few years, we played every Sunday without fail. It was OUR church. We formed friendships that still exist to this day, we had shirts made, and we even ordered enough Dominos to be known as the Halo guys. We even won a college tournament. We still play a few times a year, but the hardware is becoming unreliable. We've modded the boxes, cleaned the mobos, put on new thermal paste, swapped capacitors, cleaned controllers, swapped in new thumbsticks... everything. But its only a matter of time. We've recently tried to switch to MCC, but even that has enough problems to not be a viable option. The only hope I can think of is if they can eventually get emulation to a more optimized state. Its drives me nuts that its the most glaring omission from the backwards compatible list. How do you not have the game that made the Xbox? Its insulting.
It terrifies me to think it could be the end of the best mp experience I've ever had, but I do get a little solace knowing that I've had decades of joy, when i just as easily could've not.
Halo CE actually means a lot to me and my brother, simply because that is the first game we ever played back in 03 when we were 4 (so that means the og Xbox was our first console). Iâm 20 yrs old and I would be lying if I told u I donât get testy eye every time I play it, luckily I still have that same Xbox and disc with me til this day and Iâm so happy halo CE was my first game over anything else
I owned Halo Combat Evoloved on the OG xbox halo ce was legit the first game I ever played so halo ce means alot to me because it was my child hood.
Halo got me into music and animation, the halo mega bloke figures and the music from halo ce made me discover my real music tastes, Iâm more into orchestral stuff than pop music (actually I hate pop music I just listen to orchestral stuff and old music 80âs 90âs) I keep learning music composition and Iâm learning by listening to martyâs compositions
Man this is pretty much how I feel about MCC. It just feels off. I don't mind the new content but even before that it never felt right. I started on CE/Custom Edition as well. And I had a blast. Best time of my life in gaming. And each Halo that came after just wasn't the same. I've never felt the joy I felt back then to the same degree. But playing 3 and Reach felt better during their original lifetime as opposed to MCC. Nit to mention people seemed to care a lot more. I'm lucky if I can go 3 games without teammates quitting. Not to mention all the other jank. It's minor but it's still jank. Pretty much all the problems you highlighted. I wish I could go back to my high-school days and tell younger me to cherish what I had. And try to play it more. Even after I finally got my 360.
Around 2009-2012 I was in middle school, custom edition was THE GAME for me, I used to play with firends from school and made a group of online friends too , by the time I convinced my mother of buying me an xbox halo 4 was out, I was about to enter highschool and I lost interest in the franchise so I instead built a PC. I used to be bitter about the fact that I never got to experience console halo in it's hayday but looking back, what I got was so much better

I basically grew up playing Halo CE on my PC. Remember when I first learned about it and I torrented it. Then I got an offical box copy of it for pc. I just played those mps for ages. Especially zombies and later bugs and all modded maps I could get my hands on and firefight maps like sector 09 and just struggling with SOI adventure in the summer

i played halo ce and 2 on the og Xbox. I enjoyed the split screen but sadly didn't get to enjoy online multiplayer. I did play the halo ce anniversary version with my 2 day gold trial but i mostly played the firefight on reach. overall 8/10 great campaign, fun multiplayer
I grew up on Halo (im 30) and going to MLG Events. I would love to play sometime with you!

I feel out of the loop. To me, itâs Halo 1. I played it when it first came out on the original xbox when I was 18 or 19 and it didnât exist on any other platform. I was surprised to find out years later that bungie also wrote it for the Mac. And Iâm surprised today that it existed on the PC way back when. (Wait⊠what?! Halo 1 was on the PC at super low frame rates. What year was it?)
"Combat Evolved" was also in the title on Xbox :P

The big thing I want is the ability to play custom edition mods like halo cursed edition, I have yet to buy cea on pc because I can play custom edition with mods and other things like that.

Actually HPC had a vary strong competitive scene, lots of clanbases, and lots of pro players. And I believe the skill ceiling was a lot higher than console, I played on both and with the aim assist the controller practically garantees a 3sk or a 4sk with no effort at all, while on mouse and keyboard you had to be very precise and learn how to strafe to counter movement prediction. You can see nowadays controller players playing on MCC pc grinding through ranked with no effort because aim assist is broken as hell, and I believe that the shot registration and bullet magnetism on MCC pc is so bad probably because the CE version they worked with was the xbox MCC version, not original HCE, that actually is a lot better than the MCC version. Better shot registration, bullet magnetism work, even textures are better with mods; they did a poor job in MCC as always, and if they're not going to fix it nobody is going to switch to MCC and the game will die in a couple months.
