- Welcome Traveler. This video will get me lots of dislikes from the community I suppose as people have been waiting for Alaune EX to be released for sooo long I just have to say: she doesn't fit my playstyle at all and it seems like another unit like the upcoming Ogen who has lots more capabilities and also grants BP can fit in her place way better and doesn't waste a space (as hard as this sounds). Aaaand even if I do consider pulling for Elrica like I said in the video.. I just forgot about 2 things. One positive and one ultra negative. To get her to 6 Tenacity Points to enable her 5 Hit hitting 10 Hits for 2 times during one Break you need to activate her Skill : Tenacious Royal Sword 3 times in a row in Monarch Style (I prefer saying Queens Style anyway) to get 6 of those counters. So only attack 3 times with one skill, as her passive grants her one of the counters after using a skill in Queens Style anyway. That's good. But her 5 Hit Skill hits RANDOM. That's not "bad" in the most cases but it can be problematic as soon as there are indestructable opponents or "just summoned" opponents you have to clear first which can mess up your break completly. So I decided to- yeah. Go for one Pull on both and leave them for good. Let's see what we will get in the future :)

Guys. I can't really feel "back" to how it must feel without that much op units in my possession which is kind of sad i must admit. Still Elrica seems like the better choice as she hits 3 different elements and that very powerful on her own. But... BP management on the other hand can of course also be very helpful when you don't really know how to get use of BP the best - then this is a carefree solution as you just put her in the back with a Sp Fan giving her 1000 SP and you have unlimited BP regeneration which makes you think less about what you need to plan accordingly to beat an enemy faster. So from that perspective Alaune seems like the better option thinking about that Alaune ehh alone. So my references were only aiming at my personal preference and my own playstyle and I was not considering newer players into my intuitive decisions. So sorry about that and please decide for yourself which unit suits you the best and who's worth your rubies. And don't forget: This game is not about you geting all meta characters to beat it. It's about you having fun with that single player experience and taking your time without rushing things.

The community for this game is very toxic. Anything you say against what they think, they say you are making fake news. I've been through a situation like this in a group of players from my region and any thought that differs from them, they say you're wrong. but wrong from what perspective? to them, their personal game... what matters is what they think and screw the rest. Keep making your videos and giving your opinion, whether you are new to the game or not, there are no wrong choices here, there are YOUR PERSONAL CHOICE, and you always gave yours. Don't be put off by fanatical nerds...they are always like that for the most part...
Your my personal hero right now. But nonetheless what they're saying is also not completely wrong. Especially as some kind of influencer to the game and to newer travellers arriving -- giving them DPS instead of a long time buffer which is still relevant in jp is something they can be sad about especially when they've invested a lot of rubies or even real money. Of course it's their decision. But I am kind of part of that decision. And not having the relevant information from JP makes this a hard task for me to know what's coming and what is nice to have and what is really a must pull. it's a hard topic but I've taken a few measurements into account to prevent that from happening again this way.

@@free2PlayerCotC Yes, they not wrong, i agree with that, because of their perspective, they play on the Japanese server, they will always be based on the gameplay there. But as I said, there is no right or wrong, there are personal choices, and the choices are based on the server you play on. To avoid misinterpretations, it may be worth placing next to each video title which server you are referring to in the video, for example: * NOT ENOUGH RUBIES? SKIP ALAUNE EX! | Octopath Traveler Champions of the Continent [EN] or * NOT ENOUGH RUBIES? SKIP ALAUNE EX! | Octopath Traveler Champions of the Continent [JP] or * NOT ENOUGH RUBIES? Maybe this way people will understand where the video is being directed, putting an end to interpretations like "I play on the Japanese server, this doesn't apply there, or the opposite. Idk man, Elrica has fallen off JP team comps whereas Araune EX is still very commonly used
She could come back again once they give her TP skills and 6* upgrade.
@@PoomerXPbut at that point is she gonna be that much better than sazantos, odio, and ringabel. Probably not. Plus sword becomes a lot less valuable later on so any tp and 6star buffs are probably gonna be too little too late.
I have to agree with everyone else. Alaune EX BP battery is too big of a difference.
Alaune EX is one of the best and most unique chars coming up considering only char meta power (not personal style). People consider only the BP regen, but the passive edef is gigantic due to how defensive buffs stack in COTC.

Interesting. I disagree this time. Maybe you don't see important the BP regen right now, but later is so important. Elrica at the end is just DPS and fall off quickly. The reason Richard is so important even in JP is because utility just like Alaune EX.

I agree as returning player the only bp regen character I have was alfyn and still in early bestower chapters with 2b and a2 being my highest damage dealers still 😂
@@free2PlayerCotC In the same way you said Alaune EX is just a BP Battery, Elrica is just a DPS. I can easily exchange her with another unit. And I don't need to play in JP to know that DPS is the first thing that powercreep.
that's kind of true. Special abilities bond to a unit make those units way more special than DPS units in general. I'm personally more into units who have more versatility than just doing one thing and that's about it :/
@@free2PlayerCotCwell, while she is kind of a one-trick pony, that single trick is still what makes her so valuable. I had the same view as you when these units first came out in JP, but recently I’ve realized that people didn’t value Richard for DPS, they valued him because he happens to be DPS *but* he makes *everyone else* stronger - a team of warriors and merchants can do insane damage compared to if Richard just buffs himself. The same is true for Alaune EX; the difference is she isn’t just helping warriors and merchants deal more damage, but she’s helping *anyone claiming DPS role* deal more damage with max boost and maxing the duration of skills of *anyone using buffs/debuffs* in half the turns. I do plan to go all-in on Elrica and finally use my fragments on Alaune though haha.

I love all ur videos and guides on battles, but saying that Alaune EX is a skippable unit.... kinda sus. She is one of the best 3 units coming alongside Odio or Sazantos and Sygna
As someone who wants Elrica first and EX Alaune later... I'm not really happy with this video, ironically. The points mentioned for Elrica being a strong warrior, I agree with them, but why are you bashing Alaune so hard?
Sure, you can find alternatives to what she can do, but that doesn't take away how incredible it is to have infinite BP recovery... It's exactly what is sounds like and is amazing lol.
She's still relevant in JP because she enables so many new strategies you couldn't pull off before, not just max BP both turns of break, but also extendable buffs, debuffs, shield breaks (for Sonia), double cast (for Therion), and so much more... She makes your team so much flexible and easy to use in any possible way, you can never go wrong with more BP, it's literally the quintessential pillar of the battle system of this franchise lmao
She may not play your favorite playstyle, and that's ok, but she's so worth your rubies and so amazing with that single BP skill that this video almost feels like clickbait, no offense, but yeah, I suggest you reconsider how worth it is to have infinite BP regen on your team, because it's a LOT more than you let on in this vid!
that's mainly because I'm not into one-trick ponies. but I didn't know the value of her long time usage in jp so that's the thing most people are offensive about :/

@@caio480I posted my opinion and I just said that I disagree. The problem is not because he prefers Elrica over Alaune. That’s fair. The problem is mainly because his channel’s name (maybe I’m wrong) suggests that is overall for F2P players. So the people come here for an advice of what’s the best unit for long term investment as a non spender and that’s why “the community” got “toxic”. He said that doesn’t like the “boring” playstile of Alaune, that’s fair. If the purpose of this channel is help people for better units investment what he said is wrong because there’s people ahead with info (JP players) that knows exactly how is aging a specific unit (this case Alaune EX). Otherwise if this channel is focusing on a personal opinion or playstile obviously he can even play with Heathcote and Millard because he wants to and It’s perfectly fine.

On EX Alaune:
Being able to MAX Boost twice in a break is only one of the benefits of having persistent BP regen, but there are many examples of prebreak BP usage that could be arguably more important.
As an example, let's say you start a battle with Bargello and EX Alaune. On Turn 1, you max boost Bargello's buff, so it covers Turns 1-5, and you use Alaune's BP channel. At start of Turn 2, you'll have 1 BP on Bargello, on turn 3: 3 BP, on turn 4: 5 BP. Meaning you have full Bargello buff coverage and also 5 BP when you break on Turn 4, so you can max boost twice in a break. This would not be close to possible without her BP support and is kind of a big deal.
It's true that Ogen can also do that BP support, but Ogen starts losing the efficiency advantage over EX Alaune after about Turn 6, because you then have to reapply the BP buff. That's 2 actions instead of 1. He's still a great character, but especially if you're gearing your videos towards f2p players, this is kind of a big deal because most of our fights are longer (much longer) than 6 turns.
The equivalencies to Frederica and Serenoa are misleading. Serenoa takes up an entire action during break to give 1 BP and has none of the pre-break benefits. Frederica brings very little to a fight where Fire isn't the weakness. If you just want a passive E Atk backpack, why would you not want a backpack that also provides huge utility in BP Regen?
Lastly: it's true that breaking faster means you have to manage SP and shieldbreaking more carefully, but the flip side is that you don't have to worry as much about maintaining buffs. You even have a decent shot at having debuffs that are hard to get last for 2 breaks instead of one.
Consider a clear where you use Kurtz A4 Billy U10 (4 turns of Ult PDef Down) + A2 Ult with A2's A4(3 turns) for a total of 7 turns of Ult PDef Down, starting from the turn before break. You would need to break in 3 turns after the first break to get the full benefit of that Ult PDef Down for the second break. This wouldn't really work without EX Alaune, because you would only have 2 BP for the second break.
On Elrica:
While the U10 is useful, its impact is less than that of the damage benefit you get from A1 (especially considering her strongest nuke is 10x weak attacks, so she can benefit from every single bit of the +50 Base P. Atk) and that from A2. As you point out, she has a number of utility skills on top of her damage, some of which are great for role compression purposes.
It does take a bit of time to charge her Tenacity points to be able to 10x twice in a break, but it's not that much (3 turns is a very small penalty for this level of power). If even that's too much, she can do the Bargello thing for only 4 Tenacity points. For reference, Bargello does a 2x600 when everything's fully boosted, whereas Elrica does a 2x500 when everything's fully boosted.
This also somewhat solves the problem of random target situations that you bring up. Elrica can use these strong ST nukes to deal a high amount of damage and she has a 3x ST Sword for shield shaving. This isn't her strongest usecase, obviously she's much better in a one target scenario, but she's not terrible in it. In fact, she's pretty good. The only case where she's rather useless is an AOE situation where all enemies are equal HP, which is fairly rare.
You wrote just about everything I was thinking of while watching this. Both are exceptional units.
I think the overall message should be "If you are not a spender and completely F2P with low rubies, it's okay to skip this banner in favor of saving for Sazantos and Signa".
This is so spot on. I'm not sure why they brought up Frederica and Serenoa because I would never bring them as a backpack or BP battery. If anything, it just proves that Alaune EX is better because she does the job of two units.

Although I disagree with some of your reasons for wanting to skip Alaune EX, you make a valid point about her being an empty channeling slot in a party compared to an active slot such as Ogen. Thanks for the effort you put into your videos.

Alaune EX only has one active skill but she's still a must pull.
Elrica will be the best sword DPS when it comes out, but will be replaceable very soon.

Alaune is definitely the more long lasting unit, Elrica has more competition with sword DPS with units like sazantos.
But her BP regeneration is invaluable.
Araune EX is definitely not a skip
Great video! I really enjoyed it from beginning to end. Dont listen to these toxic players. Your videos are great and really help f2p players. The decision is always down to the persons playstyle and what they priotise! It's very helpful to hear things from a f2p point of view since rupies are very precious and thus should be spent on must-have units. Furthermore, it's always hard to consider future units since a potential buff could change things!

@@free2PlayerCotC well it works now, but my account got deleted I don’t know how or what happened like a glitch or bug. So I contact customer service yesterday, and fill out this form, but in one of the blanks ask for player ID on old account, and player ID on a temporarily account, but I dont remember my player account from the old one, and on the temporary account it doesn’t show a player ID, so I just put “ user ID “ instead, so hopefully that works. They better give me my account back I spend hours and money on this game, if they don’t, I’m gonna have to file a claim on my bank account and get a refund on all my transactions. Any other recommendations you have for me?
@@free2PlayerCotC yeah it didn’t let me update and go in the game all day yesterday, until last night it finally worked, but there was a glitch or something that caused to delete my account! So I contact support and file what they needed, but in one of their question they asked for the player ID number on the old account and to create a temporary account and give them the player id from the temporary account as well , but I don’t remember my player account number from my old account so I put the User ID instead , will that work, or do you have any other recommendations?

I have Richard so Skip elrica and go alaune? This video and the comments are so different.
Richard is more of a sword and polearm team buffer than a DPS. When Elrica is released, she will be the strongest single-target sword DPS in the game for a while. Her main competition will come from upcoming banners featuring Odio-O and Sazantos. Both of them do awesome AoE DPS and have additional utility, so it comes down to whether you like her as a unit. I think most players' plans are to pull for Alaune EX and hope they pull her before the 150 fragment pity, then use the fragments to pity Elrica.

@PatrickLimJr A4 is not necessary. It's nice to have, but not worth the investment with the upcoming units after her. She does well with A1 for the extra 50 Atk, but A0 Elrica is totally fine.
@@PatrickLimJr if you aren't a spender. always always always A0. SOME units would LOVE to have U10 etc, but even then it's not a big necessary to get it.

and I'm totally fine with it that you had a disagreement here. A lot of people have. and that is ok. And if that leaded to people thinking more about pulling, watching more videos from other good content creators this community has and evaluating what's the bets for the player - then that's totally fine with me. I can only read about it and have not played the unit before in JP sadly, so my opinion is only regarding the present in global and not the future we will have soon. That's very exclusive to CotC to have that so people can take a look into the future if they want to spoil themselves.
