- I've had many, many requests to try out the Philips Norelco One Blade electric razor, so I decided to buy one and give it a try. In this video, I put it head to head against a safety razor that won't break the bank, the Parker 99r. Which one comes out on top? Am I comparing apples to oranges? Let's shave and see...

The one blade is designed for people with sensitive skin. It goes almost as close as any razor goes but without scraping your skin. Been a godsend for me with Eczema.
Good to know!
Depends on the kind of sensitivity it seems. I also have sensitive skin and used to get a lot of ingrown hairs and razor burn before shaving with a safety razor. And I also have the one blade here for when don’t have the time to shower before a shave or just don’t want to shave that day. After using it, my skin feels extremely raw, because I have to go over multiple times and my facial hair is not really thin and easy to cut. But it leaves behind an okay finish without having to fear any ingrown hair.
@@AkiDarkWolf perhaps you need to switch the blades... the one blade has been the most gentle shaving device on my skin

Hi Sinatra how are you well I used to shave with a cartridge razor was getting skin irritations and also the amount of money use to spend on cartridge razors. And I hated shaving with a cartridge razor now I'm shaving with a safety razor just love it. It's the best ever I have discovered I will never go back to shaving with a cartridge razor I really just don't get it how people can shave with a cartridge razor.
I don't really know why i watch a man shave for 14 minutes but i enjoyed the hell out of it 🤷🏻♂️.

I prefer the One blade to safety razors, cartridge or other electric razors. It cuts close, but not too close. I can shave dry and get zero irritation. It cost more per shave, but definitely worth it for me. Baby smooth = breakout and major irritation for me.
Cartridge razors are dogsh!

I switched to a safety razor about a month ago because cartridges were causing so much irritation.
Unfortunately I still get irritation and ingrown hairs with my safety razor on the lowest setting...
Do you think the one blade would be better?

@Walter K. Never heard of that il have to take a look. In my experience electric razors have never beaten my DE razor for closeness. I have a remington electric shaver that I really enjoy using in between wet shaves, but it doesn't get close enough.

Thank you for this video. I am a black man who takes blood thinners, so I deal with shaving bumps due to ingrown hairs and bleeding quite a bit if I nick myself. Even though the One Blade doesn't shave as closely, it might meet the needs of someone like me. I have had mine for about three months and I shave maybe twice a week. Agreed, it's not for everybody but I find it quite sufficient.
It’s great that you’ve found a shaver that works well for you. I always say that people should shave with what works best for them. Thanks for the comment!

The Philips one blade is the most comfortable razor I have ever used to clean shave. I don't think anything else can be as comfortable. It's the only one I use now to shave. There's no skin irritation, cuts or pulling of the hair like rotary razors. It's the best choice.

Cannot believe how entertaining this man can be
I’ve personally invested heavily financially and practically in shaving. Here’s what I’ve found based on years of experience looking for shave I want. (I want the smoothest quick shave without getting ingrown hairs or irritation.)
1) Annually, with daily shaving, the Oneblade will cost the same as buying the Braun Series 9 with cleaning cartridges replacing the cleaning cartridge solution every 19 cycles (I took over two weeks to count exactly how many cycles until the light turns on.)
2) The Philips Norelco OneBlade doesn’t provide the closest shave when “close” is defined by the length of hair protruding from the skin. However, “smoothness” I have found the OneBlade can provide (with extra work) a shave nearly as smooth as a Double Edge Safety Razor. This is all from my experience, not the opinions of others.
3) Using Leftric Shave or another electric pre-shave will make this even smoother.
If your goal is the closest shave, the Gillette Fusion 5 should be the winner because it will cut under the skin, but that’s a problem. Cutting under the skin produces ingrown hairs. Don’t get me wrong, the experience of taking a warm shower followed by shaving against the grain with a new Gillette Fusion 5 ProGlide using the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Sensitive 2 in 1 Shave Gel is AMAZING. (Assuming you didn’t break out in ingrowns the next day.) But you know, like I do, that those sharp, amazing shave experiences don’t last very long on those blades.
In my experience, the way to get an oil-covered baby butt dish soap lathered slip and slide smooth shave is using a double-edge safety razor. The best part is you don’t get breakouts. It takes time to learn, but I go against the grain everywhere on my face (except for my adam’s apple) every time I shave and am never disappointed by blade performance. Double edge safety razors are much sharper, profoundly cheaper, and easy to learn.
Did you copy and paste this?
....I saw the EXACT SAME COMMENT on another video about this... 🤨
no one can beat my grandfather's safety razor this is also what I use, great job Sir!
I just bought it so I will try it out the same way you shaved with it and hope it fixes my issues. I've been through so many electric shavers and tired of spending money on them. Lol. Thanks for the detailed review man!
You totally convinced me, thank you for making these clips!
For what it's worth, I bought a Oneblade a year ago and I'm still on the original head. It doesn't cut as close as any wet shaving method (which they tell you upfront in the instructions) but it's great if you grow out your beard and keep it trimmed or shave it off every so often, ideally you'd shave your beard off with the Oneblade and then follow up with a Cart Razor or Safety Razor for a BBS shave. I got mine on sale for about 40 Canadian Pesos and 10 bucks store credit, at that point I was fed up with Cart Razors and hadn't really heard about Safety Razors so this was my way of avoiding razor burn. Since I got my Rockwell however I haven't really used the Oneblade, because having to wear a mask forced me to be clean shaven.
Just bought one for my covid beard a few hours ago. Came back to comment. And made some notes to clear some stuff up.
I highly recommend long, slow, gentle strokes. And you can pretty much shave as fast as you would with an electric shaver.
Use the trimmer side is what I use for the upper lip and getting over the nooks and crannies.
The shave is closer than what you would get with a brand new multi blade razor, you would have to use a safety or straight razor, and most Dermatologist advise against shaving like that these days. And i wouldn't unless you have a good routine like powder, aftershave, astringent, antiseptic and moisturizer.
I find it pretty amazing cause sometimes i nick my top lip, under the nose and the edges of my lip sometimes. Plus I have the random pimple.
But this thing sharp and accurate im not scared to shave over a wound or pimple, i can even put this thing under my chin and it will leave behind a impression of the one blade.
To clear up some stuff the run time is over 1 hour and the charge time is only 4 hrs. You can leave it charging after your done. But if you;re traveling this thing can basically run a whole month ( or 2 weeks), before charging. Replacement blades cost like 10 bucks and you only need a new one 4-6 months and if you dont use it everyday prob longer. I've heard this thing stays pretty sharp and doesn't dull like how a traditional razor dulls form the microscopic rebound force from hairs. It comes with 3 combs so this is probably super easy to trim your beard and get the old ends off. You could probably use it for body hair too.
Prices as of Dec 2020 are $29 from Walmart target and amazon and i got mine form walmart with a $3 replacement plan
The shave is pretty close like i said, but when I but antiseptic and astringent on today i didn't feel any burn. And it left my pimple on my chin perfectly unharmed. I'm excited to learn about this thing, cause its stupid convenient and cheap compared to high-end electric shaver. Also top tip keep your razor and blades dry to prevent corrosion, not sure about the oneblade but you should prob do the same.
My comment about the entire video is wholesome. It's not easy to describe shaving but you can show it easily. You are good at both and surprisingly it's not boring.

I do not know but I prefer the old school safety razo's are the best way simply more efficient, the new methods are not my thing.

I use my one blade for my chin and mustache area, as well as edging side burns, under my nose, and touch ups where my razor misses. I use the Gillette skin-guard cartridge razor for the rest of my face and neck. I find this combination works very well for my sensitive skin.
Thanks for this demonstration. I can't wait to try the Parker safety razer!

Excellent review! I switched to safety razors recently. I’ve been using disposable triple blades and electric Norelco triple head circular razors for years. The safety razor gives me a barber shop close shave and now I look forward to a nice, slow, zen-like experience for my daily “me time” shave. There’s something nice and relaxing about prepping your skin, lathering up and taking your time and enjoying a couple of nice “pure” shaves with a DE blade, and finishing with a post shave balm. No frills or fancy multiple edge blades. Just you and a single edge of a blade, delicately taking off a layer of daily beard growth an inch at a time, and feeling just how smooth that shave is, not just after, but how it lasts for most of the day. Its nice to discover a new way to enjoy a daily ritual that I’ve been doing all these years and have only recently begun to really appreciate.

I find that the safety razor ended up tugging at my hairs more and caused more bleeding, no matter how much shaving cream i used or how much i moistened my face beforehand. I went out and got the Oneblade and have had ZERO issues with it. For what it is, it cuts pretty smooth and causes little to no irritation for me. Id recommend it
Shaving at the wrong angle
@@MrLakers1991 right lmfao i saw his pic and knew youngen was doin it wrong
Use what works for you, but a well designed razor head, with good sharp blades, and used at the proper angles should have none of those issues. Often times I've had a friend raise the same complaints a quick inspection of their kit reveals that blade exposure is lopsided or asymmetrical (whether due to poor head design or poor blade quality) or they are using really terrible cheap blades.Other times it could be that they are pressing too hard (a well designed razor and sharp blade requires no more than a light touch) or they are not keeping the angles as they go around the face (both habits likely formed through cartridge razor usage). For me a DE-SR is the fastest route to a smooth shave without irritation, but that's with everything dialled in to my liking.
Need better blades safety razor is so smooth
never had any of those issues with a safety razor and I only use hot water no soap or cream.
may or may not make a difference but Phillips recommends shaving in long strokes as apposed to short quick flicks
Thats a pretty honest and practical hands-on review.👍
Can’t express how much I enjoyed this video
I have Philips ONEBLADE, it's good for people like truck drivers who don't often have the opportunity to shave, it's also good for teenagers who are just starting to shave like my younger son, who can't stand facial hair and has acne problems, but for a quality shave I recommend DE razors ..

Thx for the review ❤️
I didn't expect a video about shaving to be this entertaining. Pleasantly surprised
Just the video I was looking for. Thank you
Time has come, so i decided to start shaving. I found the One Blade and was all hyped about it, but when i got to the store to buy it, i wanted to get extra cartridges and when i saw the price i could not believe it. It costs 14 usd/piece here, so i was dissappointed, then by blind luck i saw a Wilkinson Sword Classic safety razor bundle wich had the safety razor, 5 blades, soap, and a brush, I did not think twice because the kit costs about half the ammount of the OneBlade, and is cheaper in the long run. Yeah, this is how i got into shaving. :D
I use both - the OneBlade to start with dry, and then a final round with the safety razor (prefer Astra blades). That leaves me with a smooth skin without any irritations. I usually only shave once a week though.
Excellent review! Thank you for helping me choose if this is what i want.
Total honest opinion, love you review 😊
I love your head to head face to face thing lol and I tried the one blade and it works fine, but I don't "shave" using a trimmer, only to trim long hair, and in that case, it is a great trimmer, in the event of wanting to closely shave, I only get a close shave using a razor
But it can irritate your face
Great informative video thanks. Just one thing I noticed is that you do small strokes going over the same area a number of times, this is very bad for the skin. You should use long strokes starting from the top of the ear down to the neck, the next stroke will be parallel to the 1st so that the blade only touches any part of the skin once. If necessary you could follow with a second stroke but no more.
Thanks for reviewing so honestly!!
I'm Italian, it's 4 in the morning and I'm watching one of the calmest and most comfortable people shaving. thank you
Grazie! Glad you found my strange little corner of CZcams.
I cut my chin a lot using a safety razor, and I can't shave well in that part, but I just started using it, I still can't get used to the right angle. But it's waay better still. Another problem I have is that I have acne on my cheeks, I don't really know how to shave like that lol. Thanks for the video!
Tried mine out before I watched your video. I have to agree. Not a totally baby smooth shave, but I also had a couple weeks growth. It shaved much quicker than I thought it would. The instructions also suggest to use long strokes & not short, choppy ones. I didn't notice a difference either way personally. I also didn't notice a difference, or much, in going with or against the beard growth. I was overall impressed with it. Rating it from 1-10, I think I'd give it an 8.5. IF the cartridges weren't so pricey, it would probably get another point to 9.5. Not a bad shave tho! Fantastic Size & makes great for traveling.
if you only shave once every 2 weeks you can easily do 3 months with one blade before it starts to get worse
does it shave as close as the safety razor? I wanted to get a baby smooth shave
@@JOHN12190 Nope. No electric razor can match a safety razor in closeness with the proper technique.

It is not waste of your money. Normal Oneblade costed for me like 20 eur. You don't need to buy Oneblade pro etc. No difference at all except the looks. And if you take care of your Oneblade, it shaves just like safety razor at first pass. Not completely smooth, but clean enough

Made the switch to a safety razor about 5 years ago. I have a heavy beard, and require a two pass shave with a safety razor. Smooth shave, no bumps, no ingrown hairs, no irritation and much cheaper.....
So my brother bought me the Philips One Blade, and I will say right now it is NOT a replacement for traditional blades. Maybe its just that I have more than average thicker hair, but the hair on my chin are really thick and in that area alone using it daily, it doesn't cut properly and it causes bumps due to irritation. Additionally, the jawline and under the jaw is extremely hard for the One Blade to catch the hairs and cut them when they're especially short after shaving the day prior. What I've decided to do is when I grow my hair out for a few days on my off days (Current Military), Ill use the OneBlade first because I noticed that the slightly longer hairs catch and cut properly with the oneblade and then I finish it off the Van Der Hagen Safety Razor. The safety Razor is freaking smoothest shave ever.
My wife needs me to have the closest shave, her skin is very sensitive to the poking.
This review helps out a lot I was about to buy this, will def be sticking to either old school or more expensive devices.
What a great review. The way you apply the shaving cream reminded me how Bob Ross paints and I could watch both of you for hours!
Bob Ross was always one of my favorites!
the oneblade is remarkable from a marketing perspective, it essentially gets the user to subscribe to short lasting and expensive propriety blades. a foil shaver or the philips multigroom series are much more competitive devices than the oneblade. the multigroom also comes with various useful attachments including a noise hair trimmer, foil shaver, and various gaurds for the body, hair and beard.
Is there a foil razor you recommend? I need it for basically cleaning up the neck after trimming to take away all the hair from below the neckline
I'm a lifelong wet shaver, but the One Blade is the best (or most convenient) shaving invention in a century. It works well in a pinch or on the road. I especially recommend it to old men (68+) who have gotten lazy and don't care that they look terrible.
Thanks for reviewing..Great reviewing
I have been using the same oneblade head for over 2 years and it still does a great job.
Yeah I've been using mine for over a year.
I paid 29 euros/usd for my one blade and I haven't touched a single plastic razor again. It gets the job done and the blade usually lasts me for 3-4 months before it gets a bit slow. Best part about it is that it doesn't hurt to shave (the plastic razors made it really uncomfortable to shave because my hair is really thick).
Barabasol is also great for putting on the mirror to keep it from fogging up. All you do is just apply it to the mirror and keep wiping it until he mirror is clear again.

One of the BEST REVIEW EVER !!!!! Thank you
Hello. I was offered a Philips OneBlade a while back, and I enjoyed it better than my older dry foil electric razor or my cartridge razor. But it didn't trigger much joy anyway and shaving was still one of these everyday chores. And with cheeks still rough I never saw a point in extensive after-shave care. The game changed when I re-discovered DE safety razors : better shaves, and they turn a chore into a pleasure-ritual that still fits in a limited time-slot. I didn't try a straight-razor yet, but as of now, IMO there's no shaving like DE shaving and I'm horrified this method was ever replaced with cartridge or electric razors.
I've used both, you cannot beat the old school safety Razor (though, I don't use the guard in 33 years of use) and single double edge blades, I use Wilkinson, as I've tried nearly all blades from all over the world just to see which were sharpest, Wilkinson Sword are the best.
The one blade works, it's for those who don't mind the many sweeps you have to use for it to work, it does do the job but not close enough for my skin.
A great video and good to include the costs too, so people can make an informed decision!
Great video. I especially enjoyed watching the part where he shaved with the safety razor which was so satisfying.
I bought a one blade a few months ago but i was disappoined in the quality of the shave, felt very rough for me and today i switched to a safety razor, night and day difference, i am lucky that i do not react badly to shaving and it's the best damn shave ive ever had.
Personally I find the oneblade very handy when I haven't shaven in a while and need to take off some long growth. It takes ages if I use my safety razor to take off long growth. But if I want that super close shave finish, I end with a safety razor.
I agree. I own a OneBlade, an Executive Shaving Braveheart and a Feather AS-D2

Like ur actions.
I recently switched to a safety razor after using a Gilllette triple blade for 20+ years ......never been this smooth and cheap, you feel like your shaving the first time like a man
After having a huge debate with myself, decided to give OneBlade a try. I just tried it and honestly It was the best shave EVER after trying numerous trimmers and shavers. I need to emphasize that using one blade with the foam is a must in my opinion(makes the process much FASTER and SMOOTHER), otherwise, I couldn’t find it useful for dry shaving. But that’s my personal preference and might be different for someone else. As far as closeness of the shave, it’s pretty similar to electric razors that I used before and I think it’s because I used it with foam. I just hope this piece lasts and the blades don’t get dull after just a couple of uses.
Hope this is helpful,
Good Luck!

Oneblade It is good because it does not cause irritation at all! For some, this is very important.
I agree .... the least irritating shave I have had with shave cream is one blade. If you have sensitive issues. I would try a wet shave with a one blade. Agree 100% that it is not as close as a blade.
I have a oneblade for trimming facial hair as mine came with the guard that allows you to have multiple lengths when you trim (I think we have a slightly different model), and on the rare occasion I use it to shave when I need to get out the door quickly it works much better for me when my facial hair is dry
Great review man, appreciate it!
I use the Philips One Blade occasionally when I am being ultra lazy, but generally I prefer using a DE. Try a shave with the oneblade using only Proraso pre shave cream, it works a treat.
I prefer it to be quiet... most of the time I listen to podcasts while shaving my head.
I hated the Philips AquaTouch. It just gave me blisters and white flaky skin all over my face. I was back to electric trimming or an occasional shave with a cartridge/cut-throat razor. But, I have been using the Philips OneBlade for more than two years now and I think it gives a really good smooth shave! Of course, it is quite cheap as well (~INR 1500) and the blades can be changed. I need to change blades not more than 3-4 times a year.
Tip: it helps if you actually hold the Philips Norelco OneBlade upside down like a trimmer and move then against the grain of your beard. A little bit like at 10:49, a little more perpendicular.
I don't need a razor but loved every moment of the video. You are an amazing creator, sir! You got a subscriber!
Wow, thanks!
Got my 99R the other day, very good! A couple of nicks but user error 😂 cheers boss 👍💙 good to see the magic towel has resumed its standard colour 😀
Got both. Electric is faster, can be used dry so convenient if you're in a hurry. Razor gives closer, slightly longer lasting shave but requires longer prep.
As a guy who does stuff in a rush and lazy, Im going with the electric razor. If there's any concern, inform me .
I would absolutely love to shave with a proper safety razor but my skin simply can't take it... I've tried nearly everything, and more than willing to sacrifice a little bit of smoothness for the comfort and convenience of the One Blade. Zero irritation.
I use the DE to shave with. I use the One Blade to trim under my nose, line up, and trim the back of my neck and sideburns... Both are great.
Haven't found one electric razor that gets the job done for me. I have to feel BBS, to me that's the point of shaving! Thanks Sinatra 🙂
