  • The Philips OneBlade is a portable and immensely useful little electric shaver, which Philips says only needs a blade change every four months.
    How true is this statement? Well, that is exactly what I decided to find out with this video!
    Disclosure: the Philips OneBlade was gifted to me by Philips South Africa. This video is not sponsored.

    I'm happy with a 'shaved yesterday' look. So, this razor has really been great (just got it a week ago). I only shave like once or twice a week, and I don't care if the blade shaves a tiny bit less over time. 1 blade may last me a year! But, even if 2 blades a year, not bad. Can get 2 blades for $15 with their email signup deal. Way less than I would spend on disposable razors every year! I got the "teen" model for just $25 (one blade, no accessories, and smallest NIMH battery), and 2 extra blades for just $15. So, hopefully this $40 will last over a year or maybe even two!

    • @earthling1984
      @earthling1984 Před rokem +4

      Had this a couple months now. For over a month no charge needed! I did charge after about 6 weeks because I was going on a trip and wanted a full battery.
      This thing is amazing! I use it a couple / few times week and it keeps me cleaned up. I honestly see myself using this for the rest of my life.
      Also wanted to add. One great thing about the teen model is you have to twist it to turn it on. It isn't a button that may get pushed randomly during travel.

    I’ve personally invested heavily financially and practically in shaving. Here’s what I’ve found based on years of experience looking for shave I want. (I want the smoothest quick shave without getting ingrown hairs or irritation.)
    1) Annually, with daily shaving, the Oneblade will cost the same as buying the Braun Series 9 with cleaning cartridges replacing the cleaning cartridge solution every 19 cycles (I took over two weeks to count exactly how many cycles until the light turns on.)
    2) The Philips Norelco OneBlade doesn’t provide the closest shave when “close” is defined by the length of hair protruding from the skin. However, “smoothness” I have found the OneBlade can provide (with extra work) a shave nearly as smooth as a Double Edge Safety Razor. This is all from my experience, not the opinions of others.
    3) Using Leftric Shave or another electric pre-shave will make this even smoother.
    If your goal is the closest shave, the Gillette Fusion 5 should be the winner because it will cut under the skin, but that’s a problem. Cutting under the skin produces ingrown hairs. Don’t get me wrong, the experience of taking a warm shower followed by shaving against the grain with a new Gillette Fusion 5 ProGlide using the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Sensitive 2 in 1 Shave Gel is AMAZING. (Assuming you didn’t break out in ingrowns the next day.) But you know, like I do, that those sharp, amazing shave experiences don’t last very long on those blades.
    In my experience, the way to get an oil-covered baby butt dish soap lathered slip and slide smooth shave is using a double-edge safety razor. The best part is you don’t get breakouts. It takes time to learn, but I go against the grain nearly everywhere on its face every time I shave and am never disappointed by blade performance. Double edge safety razors are much sharper, profoundly cheaper, and easy to learn.

    • @xsiikphyziiksx7205
      @xsiikphyziiksx7205 Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yeah but your chances of slicing yourself greatly improve. I know it’s technique but should I be getting nicked because I want a cheap shave? Like you I’ve invested in this new hobby of shaving. What you said makes me even more curious about the one blade. Because at the end of the day cartridge razors give the best bbs no nick shave but they are damn expensive. I’m on the fence with buying either the one blade or Panasonic arc 5 to try and see if electric shaving is for me. Yes I do like DE but sometimes I don’t feel like getting cut in the face. I just used a feather blade for the first time and by user error I cut my lip. 100% my fault. But nonetheless that would only usually happen with a DE razor.

    I bought the One Blade trimmer like less than 3 months ago. I use it only to shave my head, not the beard. I use it twice a week. I also bought a package of 2 spare blades and they are all bad now... I love how they shave when they are new but they really don't last that much.

    My problem with Philips rechargeable devices is that the batteries inside die after quite a short time. This usually means that the device has to be thrown away. You should be able to change the rechargeable batteries when they die.

    Generally use oneblade to knock down 1 week+ growth when I've been too lazy to properly shave, does a better job than any a regular trimmer in getting it down to a length to then shave with a regular wet razor, much more comfortable and doesn't catch as much.
    Also tried putting one of my old oneblade heads in an ultrasonic cleaner with some dish soap the other week, unsure if it's just a placebo effect, but felt like it brings an old blade back to life a little.

      I have 5 days a week with super thick hair and after 8 months I just realized from this video, that I’m even able to change blades since I thought it was a lifetime thing for some absurd reason and it has been working perfectly tripping on the sides and getting all the rest without pulling at all. Just make sure if you get the extender combs that click on, you blow the hair out recently or it will get clogged since it isn’t made for length combs on them and for just trims and clean shaves that don’t cut you. Best I have used so far in my 26 years of living for sure but if anyone knows anything better I am always willing to try!

  • @aust4105

    I get razor bumps sometimes, and razor burn and cuts usually, but honestly the Oneblade offers a closer shave without much irritation. So far I'm happy with my purchase. I have a much thinner beard than you, although I shave every 2 days to stay basically clean shaven. So I wonder if it will last 4 months in my case...? If I have to change the blade more than once per 3 months, I don't think it's worth it, I'll look for something else..

I really love that I do not have to use foam and therefore I can see more clearly how to style my chinstrap and goatee. With the foam in the way, I was not accurate. With the OneBlade, I can see everything and thus style accordingly. I love it!

    I got the OneBlade face and body and I shave my neck and parts of my cheeks daily and keep a stubble. The trimming aspect is good but there really is no cutting. I have to use my Braun electric shaver to clean the line under the chin and jawline.
    As for the body, doesn't go down to the skin with the attachment and if you use just the shaver without the skin protector, this will leave you cut everywhere and ingrown hairs. BEWARE!
    In short, this is a hit and miss for me.

      Right now, it seems like the actual shaver is on special and can be found for about R300.
      With that in mind, and this is rather funny, refill blades are going for about R350 - R400.

      Hunter G Yeah, it’s genuinely good value for money 💁🏼 - which is why I decided to do the video. I didn’t think it would last this long. I also have quite a tough beard. So if your beard is softer, it’ll last even longer 😎

      Hunter G Ah, then you are like me 😂
      In that sense, the blades do last a good amount of time. All depending on how often you shave 🪒 💁🏼

    It's really not worth it. The blade plus a replacement blade comes to $80CAD, when you can just as easily buy a professional-level device for just under $100CAD. The device is simply not worth this much.

      Only temporary and because I shaved dry 💁🏼
      If I shave using warm water & shaving cream, there are no red marks because there is far less friction between skin and blade.
