Sheldon finds his seat at Penny's apartment - The Big Bang Theory
Vložit
- čas přidán 28. 01. 2018
- Sheldon tries to use the conundrum of Schrödinger's Cat (used to illustrate the Copenhagen Interpretation of Quantum Physics) to reflect the state of the relationship between Penny and Leonard. The cat was placed in a box with a vial of poison that would open at a random time. From the outside, no one could know whether the cat was dead or alive until they actually opened the box, and until that happened, the cat could be thought of as BOTH dead AND alive. Sheldon points that to Penny that until she and Leonard actually DO date, their relationship and the outcome of dating can be interpreted as both good and bad.

The craziest part to all of this is that Sheldon actually gave Penny really good advice at the end js.
No, he did not. Good advice is clear and easily understood by the audience. She asked a yes or no question but he gave her a vague analogy to the Schroedinger's cat concept. It would have been good advice if he had compared the positives and negatives of saying yes to Leonard vs the positives and negatives of saying no to Leonard.
@@anastasiawortham8833 You didnt understand what he meant then. He cant possibly say all the positives and negatives about saying yes/no, or whats much more important, if it would work out. So instead he gives the only reasonable answer, you cant know if you havent tried. Schrödingers cat is a brilliant analogy for that.
And you know, its also the setup for a pretty decent joke.
@@schmid1.079 i agree with this statement but this is also close enough to be called fact
it rly was. people coment to ur coment that it wasnt but thats because they didnt get it. she asked a question "yes or no" but sheldon pointed out that its actualy not a yes or no question and she needs to drop that viewpoint. its like i ask my mum "should i water the garden" and expect yes or no but the answer depends on wheater it will rain that day and she tells me to watch the news to find out and i dont get it. (since people seem extremly dense i feel i need to explain further: if it rains then the garden doesnt need to be aditionaly watered by me)
@@anastasiawortham8833 it was actually fantastic advice.
Sheldon and Penny have the best friendship on the show, best developed. We watched as they grow together and I think they are in fact the only pair that really learn from one another, because they are opposites so they can learn new things from each other. I love them!
Sheldon could have done the same with Missy unfortunately he missed that opportunity by being too judgemental or immature in not recognizing how valuable it would have been to learn some of Missy wisdom
They could be a best couple on the show:(
Honestly it's because Penny is a lot like Missy. To him she is very much alike his sister and therefore able to build a healthy relationship with her that is beneficial to both of them.
@@tpsam
So grand of you to expect such maturity from a kid. Not to forget that the character Sheldon barely understands people correctly while he is an adult!
A wonderful awesome scène 😉😀🇺🇸🇮🇱🇳🇱 between Penny and Sheldon 😉
Sheldon and Penny's interactions really are the best moments of the show.
Agreed
Here's the reason why- because they both are intellectually opposite to each other. This creates conflict and drama. This is a technique used by dramatist and filmmakers ever since they began writing stories. Want to create more drama? Have two opposite characters forced to live/interact with each other
@@appleipadcrazy Makes sense to me.
I could hear them talk with each other all day & never get bored 🤔🫢😭
@@appleipadcrazy Except those parts where they synergize well, like in this very scene. Sure, she's annoyed by him a bit, but if you think about it, they're getting along rather well and making progress to solving a problem.
They do that quite a bit, actually
He basically explained in scientific terms she'll never know if the relationship would/will be good or bad unless she takes a chance i.e. "open the box". If you think about it Schrödinger's cat can be applied to almost any of life's dilemmas.
and the fact that he actually did explain it really well. like if penny actually tried she could have understood the logic
Penny did understand it that way. She immediately said that she should date Leonard to find out but Sheldon said it is not what he meant
I guess what makes it work for a dilemma is if the dilemma has enough evidence to go either way. If there is significant evidence to prove it is a bad idea then it probably is a bad idea and vice versa
Big emphasis on the word “ALMOST”
For example, if someone were faced with the dilemma of whether or not they should do meth or crack, I’m pretty sure the outcome can only be bad.😂😂
Not really the point. You got it the same way penny did lol "Opening the box" wasn't part of the theory back then. It just means both options should be considered valid at the same time. Sheldon wasn't telling her what to do, otherwise, he would just agree with her conclusion.
The fact that Sheldon starts explaining some quantum theory and Penny knows she won't get it but she still listens to him carefully and tries to understand, it is just so adorable.
Penny has repeatedly demonstrated she's a lot smarter than most people give her credit for, including herself. She did eventually get the point, because Sheldon used an analogy deliberately designed to make the concept accessible to most people.
The fact that cuoco managed to keep a straight face in this scene deserves infinite respect, he spent 3 minutes trying to find a good seat 😂😂😂

It's actually a testament to how much Penny really matters to Sheldon, that he was willing to listen to her describe a subject he almost certainly had no interest in.
For someone as socially inept and clueless about subtle emotional clues as Sheldon often is, he can show remarkable insight and understanding at times.
Sheldon lacks practical experience with many emotional and social issues, but his theoretical knowledge of such matters is impressive. Sometimes that can be just as good.
Yep, along with his moderate experience with his family
Sheldon, in his extreme logical and scientific way, made some good advice. Advice that I think I'll use for people that know what Schrödinger's Cat is.
superlarryman Yes keep your options to a limited self fulfilling prophecy and disregard the rest. I’m not surprised you’re an imbecile by the very fact that your name is ‘Larry man’. Very much evident that you are since your name comes from a class of many imbecile names that are oh so part of the laws of ‘relativity’ 😉
You know, if Sheldon wasn't so "Sheldon" and could explain his point in an average education way, That would actually be some really good advice.
jonnie Vasquez you know if people weren't that dumb you would consider his explication a average educated point which i consider not to be so far fetched since even i understood his point and i haven't went to a "higher" education besides high school.
Yeah I think I got the point, Penny should "open the box" and go out with Leonard...but apparently that wasn't it.
I understood his point very clearly lol. They just try and make Penny as dumb as possible on this show to incite humour.
She has to decide whether to date Leonard to see if the relationship any good or she will never know. But it could end badly.
Currently no one knows until the "box is opened".
And it seems like Schrodinger hated cats.

Helen was just an excuse of course... the motive for the war campaign, not the real reason!
Sheldon basically told her, "You won't know unless you try." In the most verbose way possible 😂
Sometimes an illustrative analogy is more impactful than just a bald statement.
I have Asperger’s and can relate a lot to Sheldon, specifically in the earlier seasons when he was 100% asexual. I’m no genius, nor do I have OCD, nor am I rude or snobby, but my mind works very differently from everyone else’s and it can be very painful. Sheldon struggles so hard with facial expressions and social cues and sarcasm, especially in the first half of the series. He struggles to socialize and doesn’t even want to anyways. He knows his mind works weirdly and people find him off-putting but there’s nothing much he can do about that. What he says makes perfect sense to him but no one else gets it. He gets frustrated over things that wouldn’t bother the average person. It’s rough having autism but I’m lucky to have 3 wonderful friends to accept me for who I am. Sheldon has made so much progress since the first season. He’ll never function normally, nor will I, but we can still grow to a certain extent.
But you seem to be aware of all this?
Milfuelle100 People don't become less asexual just because they are in a relationship. That is not how sexualities work. Having said that, sorry to hear about your struggles.
Milfuelle100
- I've read in 2 separate articles that the writers (or producers?) of the show maintain that Sheldon is not autistic. I have always thought he was and he sure seems that way, so their statement that he's not confuses me. Anyways, thanks for sharing your own experiences and I'm glad you have friends who accept you. :-)
@Ghotyo Locanisyn- Ahhh. That makes perfect sense. Thanks for the enlightening post.
Sheldon doesn't have Asperger's the writers confirmed he doesn't.
I love how sheldon is trying to find a spot and finding fault with areas but it's the same layout when sheldon and Amy live there.
I love their relationship... penny might think what he's doing is weird but keeps moving on... And treats him like a regular person

You see in 1935 Schrodinger's cat...
Cat is dead because they poisoned her haha. Looking today, cat is dead for sure, cat's can't live that long for over 80 years.
Sheldon says you have to be psychic to get his point, after he explained the principle of shrodinger's cat. Yet, when he went and said the words "Shrodinger's cat," to Leonard, he got it straight away. All hail Leonard
That wasn't psychic. That was like two friends sharing an inside joke. All you have to say is "baking soda" and your friend immediately recalls the time that you put baking soda instead of powdered sugar in the cream and OMG your right that is telepathy.
What does Shrodinger's cat mean?

Eshwaran Venkat ç zlZxxdc
what he meant was no one can tell what's going to happen; the problem of Penny wasn't simply to choose to go out with Leonard or not, but it's that she shouldn't have worried so much, cause whether the event is good or bad will be revealed once the "box" is opened. You can say just take it easy or don't try to control everything, but what sheldon's point was that don't give so much expectation and don't think too much
Liu Dave holy shit I think this made a lot of sense
Liu Dave No Sheldon's point should be to open the box.
+Dick Urkel no no no ... let me start again. in 193....
Sheldon's interpration of Penny's relationship with Leonard using the cat experiment actually makes a lot of sense: Until Penny takes the chance to date Leonard, that relationship can be seen as good or bad, same as the cat being dead or alive. We can only assume what state the cat is in, just like we can only assume how Penny and Leonard's relationship is going to turn out. The thought process behind both has to remain neutral and unbiased until we see/collect data.
I dunno if this makes sense but this is how I saw it. :D

One of the best, simplist explainations I've ever heard of Schrodinger's Cat (which, by the way, is wanted: Dead and Alive).
Great advice! Basically, things can end up going “good” or “bad”, really depends on the person and point of view. There are two certainties Penny can control up until this point. One, she decides to go and give Leonard a chance (open the box) and whiteness her outcome. Two, she holds off on giving him an opportunity (leave the box closed) and continue to make her own assumptions of what could have been.
There’s a ton of reasons why keeping the box open or closed may make the most sense to each person. You may get exactly what you thought would happen or the complete opposite.
There’s a ton of advice out there she could listen to/take but it all bubbles down to this in the end. As Sheldon said, she isn’t psychic so it’s up to her to make a decision.
When he started talking about helen of troy i Actually know what hes talking about “battle of troy”
