    I'm considering picking up a Damascus blade. It concerned me to hear that they rust without maintenance. Thanks for your video!

      Thank you for watching Carl. Civivi has a few Damascus blades in the 9cr range that is stainless but otherwise it is going to rust.

      Don't buy one. They are high maintainance and overrated. Stick with stainless steel.

      They rust with maintenance. They just rust.

    That looks like a good way to store knives that are prone to rust , I know i have one or two that are slowly rusting away now the tricky bit for me is finding where I left them..👍

      My carved knoves the huntsman and the field knife are rusting. Its super disappointing considering they were $450 and $230….

    Thank you for making this video, I'm trying to research ways to restore the karambit i spent $100 USD on because I just pulled it out of the sheath and the entire edge is rusted.

    Thank you. I just picked up a Damascus blade and it has this exact problem! I was going to use dubbin or some mink oil on the blade to seal it. Thank you again for this information!

    After cleaning i use carnauba car wax for protective coating. Works well and knife will not rust easily anymore.

    Do you possibly know what kind of steel wool you used? I think I heard you say fine or coarse, I accidently bought super fine wool and it is not getting the job done.

  • @PatchCornAdams723
    @PatchCornAdams723 Před 8 měsíci +3

    Would it be better to use steel wool soaked in mineral oil? I use steel wool cleaning products on my job (on mostly glass and stainless steel), and our number 1 rule is it has to be super wet or else it will scratch. I'm looking this up to try to fix my Damascus steel sword. I am devastated to see rust on it. 😕

    • @STUFFWEDO

      I am sure very fine Steel wool and mineral oil will work. Good luck and thanks for watching

      Wax paper is the smarter thing to do. I was too lazy to go and look for some.

    Damascus steel is super annoying to maintain. Cleaned and oiled my knife generously. Put it into a water free oiled sheath. Took it out months later and the entire blade is covered in rust. You would think I soaked the whole thing in water after washing it with soap and put it away. I guess the blade has to be wrapped in plastic but that just seems ridiculous.

    • @STUFFWEDO
      @STUFFWEDO  Před 7 měsíci

      It is very annoying but today there are people and places that make Stainless steel Damascus. If that is more your thing

    • @chaoswitch1974
      @chaoswitch1974 Před 14 dny

      It does need to be wrapped in plastic. When I received mine, they were soaked in oil and wrapped in plastic. I oil mine regularly and they still get super rusty. It's a pain.

  • @chaoswitch1974
    @chaoswitch1974 Před 14 dny

    It only takes a couple days to rust
