      @Amgbenz0 Před 8 lety +1

      +DoctaM3 I don't get any of the praise surrounding the R8s interior. Imo it's the weakest in it's class. Oddly placed/ shaped air vents, ugly looking knobs at the top of the center console, wide and overly thick gear selector, and overall just nothing special about it. Looks very bland to me. Despite them not having changed much on the exterior, I would say it a lot better looking on the outside then it is on the inside.

    Honestly I'm a real Porsche fan, but I'm really impressed with the R8! Damn, that engine is something extra and it's now even more good looking than it was before. Well done Audi! Although I'd like to see the MK2 Turbo S later on.

  • @pascalmpower7944
    @pascalmpower7944 Před 8 lety +5

    I totally agree, those cars are AWD but can slide like a RWD in some wet condition. Especially for Porsche. Where is the rear wheel steering?? Or maybe the AWD split torque much slower or the ESC applied mildly.
    The suspension setting of Audi R8 and Turbo S are similar, front suspension caster is about +7.0-7.3 degrees. The Turbo S may have more caster, so the front end should be as sticky maybe it's the torque that gives 991 a bigger slide. The R8 seems slide with much less counter steer, more like 4 wheel drifting. The reason maybe weight distribution and AWD torque split. Talks about weight distribution, the Turbo S with a weight distribution of 39.3%/60.7% vs R8 42%/58%. The Porsche Turbo S also packed with a way softer damper, although PDCC aids mid corner body roll but not pitch, the car pitch a lot as I can see. For the transmission, Audi did a great job if it able to shifts quicker than PDK like he mentioned. Anyway, I'll pick Audi R8.

  • @thegirthquake8574
    @thegirthquake8574 Před 8 lety +23

    I'm going to be that guy and say it:
    Has anybody noticed that no matter what the situation, the 911 always seems to have a "given" condition? If it manages to lose the time attack like this case, it's given a win due to its "personality". Which I think is funny given that it's the benchmark standard boring porsche. (But granted, I do like the thing. I'm not a butt hurt Audi fan here guys. I do enjoy porsche.) But the 911 is always kept protected and sacred by car reviewers. If it loses somewhere, it's given a win due to it being the 911. The Audi I think has more personality than Mr serious the turbo beetle with its v10 screamer and it's aggressive styling. So I'm calling bullshit now. And it isn't exclusive to evo either. Many other companies do this as well with other shootouts with the 911.
    Now I'll wait for the stupid replies about being an angry Audi fanatic. I know they're coming in spite of me stating I'm a porsche fan.

    • @pervZAGGert
      @pervZAGGert Před 8 lety +5

      +Michael Tarantino well, it's really hard to carp on anything in 911 turbo S, it's like a computer game, it's called a benchmark supercar for reasons. I didn't like the previous generations of 911 turbo, but this new one... it's just a golden ratio. Overall, beautiful exterior as well as luxurious, very comfortable interior, astonishing performance figures, the car's very durable and robust, Porsche is just polishing it from gen to gen. Ideal car with a biting price, but when a simple stage 1 ECU tune and custom exhaust allow you to see F12 and Aventador in read mirror, it's worth every penny. But people prefer lambos and rarris for showing off, 911 turbo looks boring to them.

    • @BigClaunch
      @BigClaunch Před 8 lety +1

      +Michael Tarantino 911 are the closest thing to perfect i can think of. They cover every aspect of what makes a car special and they're reliability is unmatched. You buy any other brand you spend thousand just to keep it on the road.

    The 911 Turbo S is insane, see how many super cars have come down to its feet, even a brand new v10+ cant match the 2 year old 911 turbo S, the new 911 turbo S, I think will be doing lap times that cars that will come out by 2018-2020 will match, what a brand is Porsche...

    • @Real_MisterSir
      @Real_MisterSir Před 8 lety

      +Ponygt 662 Bwahahaha you are a gunny kind :) "Even a brand new v10+ can't match the 2 year old 911 turbo S". No it didn't match it, it beat it. In 9/10 corners the R8 pulled away, and on the straights it was faster all the time despite the 911's much greater torque number. To quote EVO; "The R8's front axle is just better than the 911, letting it handle corners better and cary more speed". On top of that the engine is N/A, has more HP, is mid-mounted, AND is faster. Please say again how it can't match the 911?.... lol.

    • @ponygt6629
      @ponygt6629 Před 8 lety

      *****
      Yes its cheaper but just think about it, Porsche is smaller and has just 560 HP and weighs more and yet could easily hold on to a mid engine rwd focused supercar, thats insane, also 911 turbo S can do 0-100 kmph in 2.9s flat and 400m in 11s consistently, while most super cars struggle with traction,launch controls etc

      @ponygt6629 Před 8 lety

      Sure but again Porsche is heavier and has 50 HP less, its a rear mounted engine, too al;so its 2 years old, think of what the 16 911 turbo S with 580 PS can do,
      its already said that its 0-100 in 2.8s and 400m will come at 10.7s, thats insane for a rear engine, heavy sports car

    Thought this was actually a great review. The editing and the reviewer's very articulate commentary were well synced--especially during the reviewer's description of the "soft" playfulness of the 911 in corners and the accompanying shots (1:58-2:40), which, I think, perfectly illustrated the point he was trying to make. And when the reviewer described the "neutral" balance that the car can have, if you choose to prioritize speed (in the case of setting a lap time), the corresponding shots genuinely conveyed the sense of the reviewer's words--you can see what he means when he mentions the "neutral" balance of the chassis in a high speed corner (2:40-2:49).

    These cars are both amazing and they really push each other from generation to generation! Altough the R8 looks and feels more exclusive the 911 is the everyday supercar. Understated when you just want to blend in and an animal when you want to be loud. That classic 911 profile which you can draw with a single line on a paper is pure art, it never gets old, and the car is just on a slightly higher level in terms of engineering than the R8. Also, let's not forget we're comparing the current R8 with the "old" 991 here. But, as I said, two amazing cars from two amazing companies that lead the field in terms of technology and engineering.

    I love how Porsche added the 4 bits of lights on the headlights of the new 911, kind of gives it a 919 sort of feel. Does anyone agree?

      +Daniel Sandoval Yeah I noticed that too. I guess it shows how a lot of these car companies that have a motorsport division will filter some of the technology they use in racing down into their road cars. Now as long as Ferrari doesn't start putting V6 turbos in their cars as some sort of Ferrari F50 homage I'm okay with it.

    Wet track yields imprecise lap times meaning its possible 911 GT2 Turbo could of lapped around this track faster. I agree with some comments that 911 GT2 could make use of probably a different interior color scheme to look less boring but to me it looked as if if the R8 was harder to control. Less wrestling & steering wheel twitching in hard cornering & sharp turn ins

    Well ok, the R8 looks dope though, and I will never take my car in a track racing and getting concerned about a few seconds. Does the Porsche look like a supercar or a sports car? Also the R8 V10 Plus does a 0-100 km/h in 2.6 seconds (tested), 3.2 (official) what more do you need?

  • @MarvinConnell
    @MarvinConnell Před 8 lety +2

    I believe that torque curves\bands matter more than torque figures... The Porsche does have a lot more, but down at 2200RPM... Speeding takes place at higher RPM so torque in said range is more important & the Audi - seemingly(because the Porsche could have similar or more at 6500RPM) - has that & it's max HP & torque figures are closer together - another plus...

    • @DanDreese
      @DanDreese Před 8 lety

      +Marvin Connell I think it really depends on the circuit, if there are slower speed corners I think the torque can really make a big difference pulling much harder out of a corner.

    • @MarvinConnell
      @MarvinConnell Před 8 lety

      +Dan Dreese Even if it were a rally where cars would come close to a halt on hairpin turns, I doubt the engines would be in the 2200RPM range - so max torque there is useless except on non drag race(drag races begin at high RPM - some using launch control)take offs... The only consolation is that the engine - even with a max torque at 2200RPM - may of course still be able to produce decent\usable torque at higher RPMs, which is why the car runs decent otherwise(away from 2200RPM)...

    • @Speednote10
      @Speednote10 Před 8 lety

      +Marvin Connell These are road cars, not track only cars. You spend so much more time in the lower rev range than in the higher when driving on the road, unless you only take it out to go blasting through the back roads on sunday mornings.

    • @aaronbarajas9458
      @aaronbarajas9458 Před 8 lety +1

      Marvin has a fantastic point. A turbocharged engine is going to run out of steam if it's max power is made down low at high Rpms
      Look at next to any racing video and notice that downshifting and braking into a corner no one is anywhere close to 2k Rpms. Your time is spent in the middle of the rev range powering out of a corner so I bet that the power figures are probably pretty close but the responsiveness of a naturally aspirated engine is what makes the difference.
      Yes they are road cars, but they are definitely built for track use. They have incredible suspension and braking systems for these purposes. If they were just meant for straight line speed it would be a different story, but that's not the case. You got to think cars like these (not the turbo s though) are repurposed and turned into GT3 racing vehicles. I'd say the platform is more than capable than "a typical street car" it's no camaro

    • @Speednote10
      @Speednote10 Před 8 lety +1

      Aaron Barajas
      Of course they have huge potential on a track, but the Turbo was built to be fast on the road and it is much more of a GT than a track car.
      Any car with almost 600hp and a top speed of 200mph is going to have big brakes, so they are not there because of potential track use.
      A Bentley CGT has got bigger brakes than both of these cars for example.
      Your arguments about racing videos are exactly my point. Since the Turbo is not built to be a track car they focused on making the power band as wide as possible to make the it as accessible as possible . Kind of exactly the opposite from a GT3, which is a "track car" and only really gets going above 6000rpm.

    I honest don't get why you'd ever buy a 911 over the R8. Not only is the R8 cheaper, it's naturally aspirated, well balanced, mid engined, better looking and it's a supercar. The 911 is sportscar. Porsche could make the 911 even better, if they didn't stick to this silly tradition of mounting the engine in the back, the car will always be compromised. It's like asking Nicki Minaj to race Usain Bolt, it's all going to go wrong. It obviously doesn't, but you just know development of every 911 starts with ''right gentlemen, what are we going to about the rear end weight?''.
