  • Since Derwent Colorsoft is so popular, I wanted to see the comparison between the two. I also wanted to see if it would compliment the Colorsoft I already own.
I want to correct something I said in the video.. I had commented on wanting more grays and light flesh tone colors. I was only working with the set of 36. There are many other color choices in the full set.

For color fastness,if one is worried you can spray a uv protective fixitive spray on the finished art piece. I use krylon archival fixitive spray and had no problems. I know prisma color changed their formula about 10 to 15 years ago. I used prisma color pencils in college over 30 years ago and my drawing is still the same and has not faded. I used a fixitive at the end.

Well it is in many cases unless you’re just practicing and you don’t really care about saving your work. If you were creating artwork that you’re going to frame and you want to keep for a long time, colors will fade over time. Some colors are less light fast and will fade quicker. I’ve done a personal test with prisma color against other pencils and I tracked it for a year. I was very surprised how many pencils faded within less than a year. Now imagine if you spend hours and hours creating some beautiful artwork, I would be disappointed to find out that the colors are not as vibrant a few years later. Again, for practice it’s fine.

Coloursoft is actually twin brother of prismas but prisma still the softest. However there is tiny difference between both in terms of softness.
