Very useful information. I have visited the Indira Gandhi Canal while being posted as a government officer at Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The canal is a huge project and carries the cold waters from Punjab to the arid desert making the Thar Desert, bloom and grow food and forests! I remember how cold the water was, flowing all the way from green Punjab made of melted snows of the Himalayas into the shifting sand bringing life to Rajasthan! The outside temperature I remember was nearly 45 degrees Centigrade when the canal water was around 20 degrees! The Indira Gandhi canal is a marvel of engineering and also a strategic defence guarding our border with Pakistan. It is a tank trap!
