Well yeah...
The guy is an absolute machine. At age 31 still picking up 4 golds and 1 silver. You have to give it to the man.

Goodbye legend, the swimming pool will never be the same without you.
giannichedda1674 Don't worry, Katie Ledecky is taking the baton!!!
How deep is that
Bishshoy Das yeah of course she can't compete with men, I mean she is seconds ahead of any competition and compare her times to then mens
giannichedda1674 Katie Ledecky has taken it upon herself to try to fill that hole
She has a lot of potential but also a wide and deep hole to fill.
I swear to god sometimes I think that Phelps was born in the god damn ocean.
The Frozen Waffle I don’t really think so because my dad said that when Mr. Phelps was just a kid he was naughty and he didn’t know what to do so his mom put him to swim and then Mr. Phelps was really good at swimming so he went to the olympics and that’s how he got so many medals
He’s a merman 🧜♂️
Lily Li it’s a JOKE
Lily Li you can’t be serious
It does deal like that
It’s gonna be weird watching the Olympics in 2020 without seeing Phelps or Bolt
AVALON 123 we just need a new champion
Yup. And there will be a new legend. I think Dressel
USA has Simone Biles though 👀
True
@@ohwigoisgs and Katie Ledecky, but theres Pellegrinu tho (she's old but still probably the most successful woman swimmer)
Okay but imagine being only 0.66 seconds off the world record when you're over 30 years old and about to retire. That man is simply phenomenal
He was 5 tenths of a second from his personal best.
You can see after the race he wasn't happy with the time at all.
1:45 is that the time? theyre racing at 11pm? LOL
@@yonggeun4222the time is 1:54 lol

Someone give this man a medal!
What? They already did? 28 medals? Well then.
volcanus20 lol
Swimming bestows a lot of medals. So put the medal tally aside. The fact that he won on 4 different Olympics (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016) is what make him a legend.
SOID! CORRECT! THE! (ARCHAEO-L-S!!! MAN! MICHAEL!!! PHELPS!!! THE! (G,O,A,T/O-L-Y-M-PIAN/SWI-M-M-ER)!!!
He's bored of medals, what he needs is a crown.
These guys were so lucky to be on the same podium with Phelps in his final Olympic and Wang Shun who was bronze medalist now wins gold in men’ 200m in Tokyo2020. It’s so impressive like you took picture with your idol and you become gold medalist like him.
@Sora L Wang is banging Zhang Yufei the guy doesnt need anything else 😁

Michael Phelps is truly the greatest Olympian ever and there will never be
another human being who will break his 23 gold 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. NEVER!!!!!!!!!!
Kook Alan well usain bolt has 9 gold metals from 9 races
harrison duncan lol thats not even close. thats still 14 off
Kook Alan I will.
That's not true. Bolt competed in Athens 2004 in 200m and did not pass the first round. So he has 9 gold metals from 10 races :)
Ne jamais dire jamais !!! Les records sont fait pour être battus !
Michael Phelps the legend
Hey
Yes very true
Lydia Gonzalez deixar quase 2 corpos se vantagem numa olimpiada é um fenomeno
No doubt
Yes@@adamperdana8124
if Michael wanted to he could still swim in the next olympics and still win medals
he said cbf
Similar to Simone Biles: just SO much dominance.
Win medals still and plampics next the in swim still could he to her wanted Michael if you whant mor qustons
Micheal Phelps is just unstoppable
I remember the first time he broke 1:55 barrier was in WC 2007 (1:54.98) and after 9 years he still went 1:55 sub (1:54.66) at his age of 31....
Incredible !!!
and this time without the full body suit. You could say he got faster at 31
@@tylerguitar75 not quite his fastest year in this event was 2011 also without the full body suit
I am here after 5 years. I still miss him.😭
Same!!
same :(
Missing you so much in ToKYo Olympics mighty PHELPS 💋
Happy and emotioned the ones who could see Phelps in action, lucky the generation who will see in videos!
A legend alive!
I've watched this race 100 times and for him, at 31, to blow the field away in the last 50m is insane. His 150 turn is scary good here.
That final breast to free turn and free leg is one of phelps great moments. Over 30 and he still has it in him to turn it on and bury the best the world has to offer, and he looks so smooth when he's doing it. When that stroke rate increases the final 25, the greatness is just undeniable.
Phelps had an amazing freestyle leg :o
very good freestyle but the key was his amazing breaststroke, usually his weakest style by far, this time was wow
jiiajajijj
That's because he is double jointed that gives him a great advantage in the water also.
@@danielanishizawa201 not really
@@dylanh8659 a lot of these non-swimmers and casuals give so much credence to his feet, or his lungs, wingspan, etc. the thing they always seem to ignore is that every single one of those competitors has those features; without them, those times would be impossible.
the only reason why phelps is so dominant is not due to his impressive genetics, but to his hard-working genius.
Thank you very much Micheal Phelps
Phelps one of the greatest Olympians ever. Been watching him compete since Athens 2004. Olympic and swimming legend!
I was in high school when these olympics happened. The school had tvs around the school and played the Olympics when they were on. And during one of Michaels races the bell went to return to class and we all turned to the teachers but they were like nah just watch it and go. Best moment ever!!
Shun changed his bronze into gold 5 years later!
To be fair, i could compete with these guys if i will run beside the pool
You'd more likely slip on the wet floor and fall on your head than beat Phelps.
haha 😂
Lol I agree
2019 someone??

2020 bicheeeesssssss
Still blows me away - 1.95 seconds between 1st and 2nd, and 1.93 seconds between 2nd and 8th.
Amazing.
Lochte and Pereira went out too fast trying to keep up with Phelps, bad strategy, if they kept themselves calm they might have gotten a medal.
Lochte still performed like he did before except the last terrible 25m
Poor Lochte.....
After he broke WR at Shanghai (2011), he couldn't be his best !!!
Sad
So true what you said!!!
if you didnt know, lochte is the world record holder in that 200m IM.
MegaWorldadventure idk man having seemed to be the only guy that had the strategy down
What a legend
Watching phelp's mom for the support in every race is so touching
the best way to beat Phelps is by not racing him at all. lmao
Why is no one talking about Lochte, he was the 2nd greatest swimmer of all time, he changed the sport of swimming in many ways
Lochte is a deuche
wang shun just won gold in tokyo!!
Sorry Michael, sorry media. But the 200IM, not the 200 fly, is Phelps' best Olympic event. 4 straight gold medals, and the races weren't close as you can see:
Margin of Victory over Silver Medalist
2004: 1.64s
2008: 2.29s
2012: 0.63s
2016: 1.95s
Suzi M actually ur wrong he lost to le clos in 2011
+NateG Videos He's talking about the 200 IM
NateG Videos Actually he lost to Le Clos in 2012 at the Olympics. Phelps didn't prepare for London well though.
Suzi M FaZeBarker@hotmail.com
+mozart mario I thought it was obvious he wasn't talking about the fly
やっぱ何度見てもフェルプスってバケモンよな
Phelps will be the never forgotten legend
Ok but both the Japanese and Chinese swimmers were really behind and got 2nd and 3rd place, respectively
Just, awesome
And Phelps is also awesome of course
I am here for Wang Shun, the gold medalist in 2021 Tokyo!
Thiago Pereira was so close and so distant at the same time. At 150 meters leading than finished in 7th! He deserved better!
Both Lochte and Pereira fell for Phelp's game, which is to go fast and dare the competition to keep up the blistering pace. They paid the price and didn't even make it on the podium.
Phelps is actually an excellent breaststroker and former world record holder in the 200 meter freestyle ; they really didn't have a choice
Every swimmer has their strong strokes
Actually, Phelps stayed on LOCHTE’S WR pace and fell off. That problem for Lochte wasn’t falling victim Phelps strategy, it was just not being fast enough at this meet
John Schmerker yes exactly, I hate non swimmers commenting “race tactics”
lochte usually keeps up with phelps for the first 3 50's
Wang Shun took bronze in Rios and took Gold in Tokyo. Hooray.
The efforts from the last one was also worth watching, he pushed his efforts very much at the last, but sadly people just care about the end result and not the efforts. well done 👌🏻👌🏻
Such a Legend . Thank You Micheal Phelps !
"There is never been a better swimmer, the most decorated swimmer"😭❤️
That comeback from wang shun thou
Thank you Phelps, for being an inspiration to all swimmers in the world, your achievements will become legends

Best Olympian Ever
I started swimming because of this man. Tough to see him go, but he went out with a bang.
He went out better than Bolt did. Poor Bolt, lol.
Phelphs Is The Best
Champion. In terms of records, his 2nd biggest race
The greatest Olympian of all time
23 gold medals
4 time 200 IM Champion. Only the great michael phelps could pull an amazing and incredible feat
Something interesting that I noticed around 3:12 when Phelps transitions from breast to free is that he doesn't complete a breaststroke kick on his last stroke going into the wall. It is something I have seen occasionally from others, but never quite at this level. Perhaps it is to preserve momentum through that last stroke into the wall?
Very late reply but it's definitely to do with keeping the momentum he built up into the wall. If he had kicked into the wall, he would've been too close to fully extended into the wall and efficiently maintain his speed.
Phelps goes like....thanx guys for keeping me company the last 3 laps bye!!
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING, his freestyle leg was phenomenal.
Most people with Michael are the best.
Jackson, phelps, myers, jordan
Schumacher
Salute to him... He is awesome and legend..
In addition to his wins whats really impressive is the margin of victory.
Athens 2004 - 1.64s ahead of 2nd place
Beijing 2008 - 2.29s ahead of 2nd place
London 2012 - .63s ahead of 2nd place (Lochte) and 1.95 ahead of 3rd
Rio 2016 - 1.95s ahead of 2nd place
He didnt just win - he dominated this event at the Olympics!
Came back to watch wang shun after his gold in tokyo haha
the greatest olympian ... yes thats r8

I am speechless like the first time 😍😍 dude he is awesome
Congratulation Michael Phelps.
This race and 4x100 Beijing are my favourite to watch, was Rio really that long ago. Micheal Phelps and lochte will always be in my heart. 😔

GO PHELPS!!
He so humble, he and me were both pretty much crying at the end there lol
I am surprised that Phelps has returned since he retired in 2012 ... I'm glad you're back.
I miss having a crowd in the 2021's olympics...
Sensacional 🏊!!!
i just love how this came to my recommendations 3 years later wut
Your hometown loves you Michael Phelps. And I know you love us too. Seen you at quite a few Ravens games. Miss you in the pool.
Wow! Phelps is really amazing! He seems like he’s about to get beat and at the end he creates a significant gap...
that M.P logo on the swimming cap 😍
Jesus I thought he had a chance of winning again, I definitely did not expect him to completely dominate it lmao
Congratulations
Best ever u will see. Phelps!
Who else misses the pool during lockdown? I do 😞.
ILOVE YOU MEAKEL PHELPS
dude its only a gap of a few seconds that decides the winner of the race insane
Well in swimming 1 second is a lot
