  • In this episode of Scotty’s Scotland Showcase we’re in Lochaber! Lochaber is like a mini-Alp’s and is home to the biggest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis. We’ll be riding at Glencoe Mountain Resort, climbing Binnein Mòr and exploring the trails at Fort William's, Nevis Range.
    I’m back on my SCOTT Gambler and first off, we take on the rough Glencoe Red and Black. After, I jump on my Ransom and climb Binnein Mòr in search of big vistas but upon summiting, we get weathered out and have to make our way off the mountain. We finish by heading to explore Fort William's Nevis Range where I reminisce of racing in front of the home crowd at the 2009 and 2010 Downhill World Cup. Nevis Range has slowly been expanding its trail network so we checked out their Black, Top Chief and the all-new blue, Blue Doon!
    This week's episode is all about reconnecting with nature and it couldn’t be easier to do than by bike. Lochaber is an amazing destination to get in to big landscapes, be it for an adventurous day out or lift accessed thanks to the offering in Glencoe and Fort William.
    The entire series is being created carbon neutral. All our journey emissions will be offset and the advertising revenue generated from you watching this series will be split between planting more native trees in Scotland and the local trail associations.

    Another masterpiece of MTBing!......How many more episodes have you got? as i'll have to give up work soon to go everywhere haha......On a slightly different note and renewable energy i noticed a few places have put free electric chargers at the MTB centres (Wolftrax and Glencoe i've noticed so far if like me you don't have land to plant trees but have an electric car haha)

  • @brettmeikle
    @brettmeikle Před 2 lety +3

    Good to hear you're motivated to put sustainability front and centre in the vid. Scotland is many things - beautiful, dramatic, even progressive in these days of populist bollocks - but it needs to properly engage with rewilding the Highlands, regenerate its impoverished ecology and get native woodland banking some of the carbon we all are responsible for. Gaun yersel' lad!

    • @ScottyLaughland
      @ScottyLaughland  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks Brett! It’s been a learning curve alright and an eye opening one, more people need to know and knowledge is key...

    • @MTBScotland
      @MTBScotland Před 2 lety

      The only problem is that just planting trees doesn't actually offset the carbon for years. carbon net zero is scientifically a load of spin to allow companies to continue to pollute the planet. Even if they were to go to carbon negative it still doesn't sort the problem of pumping out tons and tons of CO2 and CH4 into the atmosphere. The bottom line is money, companies don't want to spend it. Scotland currently produces 98% of its electricity by renewable sources but we are still using gas in our homes. Electric cars are still far too expensive and the infrastructure of charging points is piss poor. I'd switch in a heart beat. At the moment PIHV give a short range that most people can actually use (my round trip to school is 14miles a day).

    Love these videos. Highly polished, well shot and cut. Scotland is one of my MUST GO places. I'm starting to plan a two-week trip (Aug 2022) but it's not a proper bike trip (unfortunately) so my question is... What would be the 5 best places to ride for a 60 yr old with lots of years on the bike but doesn't do the big jumps and gaps. (Waiting for witty comments on that one) I prefer flow and technical trails but want to experience some of the beautiful wide-open vistas that Scotland has to offer. Oh yeah. I'd probably have to rent wherever I go. Any HELPFUL suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers

    Great series, but I have to say I feel Blue Doon is an insult to the mountain, the upper part, a very intrusive to the nature trail, that doesn't add much of either fun or flow.

    • @ScottyLaughland
      @ScottyLaughland  Před rokem +1

      Understand your point of view, I think the trail has a place in their network and with time hopefully nature will do it’s thing and take back over some of the damage that has been done to the hillside.
