    Scotty that was absolutely sensational. Just getting out on the bike is enjoyable anywhere but to be mountain biking in those surroundings is just out of this world. Thanks for bringing us along! All the best, Adrian

    Welcome to Fisherfield - "The Great Wilderness." Been backpacking in there over the years, always quiet because of the isolation, most remote place in Britain located near one of the summits.
    View from Mhaighdean (most remote Munro) is very special.
    Enjoyed your well made film, now looking forward to my next bikepacking trip. ATB

    Fantastic video, superb footage of this amazing place - one of the best videos you've done, Scotty. The descent from the high point is indeed awesome and its truly magical when you get to that point where the view of the mountains and lochs open out. I found I had to either ride or admire the scenery, I couldn't doing both at the same time. Didn't have much problem with midges, as it was hot, sunny and no wind... perfect cleg weather and their bites actually nip! Seems like either "local" will get you in here 😬

    Im up there & staying just a few miles from the start of your ride so might give this a go. Let's hope for some dry conditions & less midges. Thanks for the vid & .gpx

    Top ride. The last great wilderness. I’ve walked across the route you rode and it is epic. The view down to the causeway is a true Scottish classic, and then there is the midges!! Thanks for sharing.

    I know where one of my day rides is gonna be come Spring/Summer! The Fisherfield area is remote and beautiful but I've not been in as far as the bothy yet. Do you think if you'd not taken the 'shortcut' you would have still encountered deep bog? Wondering if I can cut across from the bothy to Kinlochewe aswell. Will have to take a closer look on the OS map. Really enjoying this series. Thanks

    • @ScottyLaughland
      @ScottyLaughland  Před rokem +1

      It was only short in terms of distance I think the long route which we did start out on is relatively hard pack and also has a bridge rather than a river crossing however we lost this section of the path at somepoint and decided to turn back and take the ‘shorter’ option which tbh although there was actually a semi clear path was a really bad call! Next time I’ll know… 😆

  • @neilbower123
    @neilbower123 Před 17 dny

    Is it obvious which way the long way goes to avoid the bog? Planning to do the ride this Sunday but as it's been raining, likely to be very boggy, but the forecast not so good doer the full week i'm up there & Sun might be the best of the worst days, TIA

    • @ScottyLaughland
      @ScottyLaughland  Před rokem

      Not sure on this, there are some in areas but generally it’s a very rocky region so perhaps hard for them to grow in!

    • @andyclarke2969
      @andyclarke2969 Před rokem +1

      It's a green desert due to over grazing , the trees were cut down in the neolithic period, any new saplings are quickly eaten by sheep and red deer

  • @thelanehunterdevon1664

    Have you tried taking a lemon and scraping the skin then rub it in your face to keep the midges away? That's how the photographer at Fort Bill DH keeps them away. He even sleeps outside.
