Taking the Train to the Trails and Sleeping in the Mountains || Wild MTB Experience

- In Episode 3 of Season we’re taking the train from Bridge of Orchy to Corrour Station, riding the horseshoe of Leum Ullium, riding towards Kinlochleven, sleeping in the mountains summiting Binnien More and then making our way to Fort William via Glen Nevis.
This is an epic MTB journey and at times extremely testing - I’ve brought you along for the ride to document the challenges that go with being on a trip like this.
In this episode I’m riding my SCOTT Ransom Tuned equipped with Shimano XT groups and 4-piston brakes, a Fox 38 Grip 2 Fork and Schwalbe Magic Mary and Big Betty Tires.

This was awesome. This is what I think mountain biking is all about. Exploring nature. Totally inspired me to revisit some of the trails in the Carpathian Mountains which we rode as kids, but now on a much much better and more suitable bike.

Me and my brother just finished Binnein Mor from Kinlochleven after seeing this. What a ride… hiking a bike on your back up a mountain is weirdly fulfilling. Snow on the ground for the ridge lines and got lucky with blue sky at the top which made it even more epic. Most remote I’ve ever felt in Scotland! The decent was pretty gnarly with the tight switch backs, then some proper downhill stuff. Love your videos Scotty! They make me just want to get out there, explore and ride 😆

Epic ride! An excellent and nicely produced video showing my local area. I live in Kinloch Rannoch and have cycled to Corrour a few times on the 'road to the isles'. I had a big day out last summer starting at Rannoch station up to Corrour, down to Loch Trieg then across to the Blackwater reservoir. Up to Black Corries lodge and back over Rannoch Moor to Rannoch Station, it was as much pushing as riding, a bit like your video..! Day 2 looked like a tough day for you..
Thanks Ian! I've similarly ridden in that area as well on a Gravel Bike and it is brilliant - I'd love to explore it some more and there's something very special about Corrour Station except for the midges, they're brutal! 😂

That was an epic but tough looking adventure 👀. I'm not sure the reward of that route was worth the pain 😂. More the mental side, cold, wet and those f#c&ing midges 🤬. I'll wait for your 1 day epics 🙏👌
You’re not far wrong there but it was an unknown and for the sections we did get to ride they ruled!! Stoked to have done it… Not sure I would again though! 😂

Lots of kudos to you. Some of those sections are difficult enough walking bagging munros never mind biking. I will be heading to corrour this year for some adventures on the bike and have taken alot of learning from this vid.

Awesome trip and views! Interested to know what overnight kit you used.
I used the Thule Rail 18l and had a Outdoor Research Bivvy, JetBoil, 3 x Meals, Garmin InReach, Water purifier, SCOTT Waterproof, SCOTT insuloft, Unior Multi Tool, Utility Knife, Tube, First Aid Kit, Sleeping Bag, as many energy bars as I could, £60 cash, one credit card, multiple GoPro's, batteries and mounts!
@@ScottyLaughland Nice, the backpack looked more like a 30L that I use in the winter. What time of year was that?
Know that area well having explored it on foot and a wee bit on bike. Admire your bike handling on those downhill sections and carrying on the uphills. Beautiful filmed to capture the spirit of the adventure. 👏👏👏

Thanks David - it was a mission at times! Made worse by not just riding it but documenting it too… No punctures actually! Quite amazing really - we didn’t in fact at all in filming the series. Carried around that inner tube and patch kit for nothing 😂

What’s the plan if you shredded your tyre casing? A tube has got me home, but couldn’t imagine doing 40-50k on that terrain.
We carried two tubes each! With the tire we’d put a wrapper in worst case. I ran Super Gravity casings for maximum protection…

Hi scotty I’d so love to do this but realise you need a lot of bike skills to tackle the downhills do you know of a guide who would be prepared to do this with me
Hey James! You’re right - it’s a tough one. There are a few guides but I’d recommend getting in touch with renowned MTB travel company Mountain Bike World who are based in the Highlands - they’ll be able to help you either on a bespoke basis or join one of their pre planned trips which are epic!
what about the camera guy?? i mean he had to the carry all the food, camping gear, etc AND the drone and camera (+ride safely in this hard terrain) , kudos to him

Looking back do you think some 5/10 shoes would have been more fun and safer for your hike a bike sections?
Maybe a flat pedal shoes would have been better? But the sole on the AM9’s are great for it. I didn’t slip one and were comfortable for the whole trip.
@@ScottyLaughland Good to hear. I always think can I walk out. Ditch the bike. It's expendable. I am not. I am really looking forward to the rest of your adventures. I have done similar on my own getting over a snapped femur. Ended up sheltered in a shed overnight. Epic memories.
