- Hey y'all I got me a new cooker. The Akorn Auto Kamado and it looks like this is going to be a top performer. This is the final assembly and burn in with seasoning of the cast iron grates. Stay tuned for part 2. "Pork Steaks" coming next week.

Great video Mike! Can't wait for the pork steaks video!
Hey Rob I appreciate you stopping by buddy. I know that this Akorn and I are in the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Between you and Tom Horseman were a big influence in me getting this thing. Thanks 😎
Can't wait to you get to some goodies
Coming up brother Maurice 😎

Thank you brother I'm looking for good things from this cooker for sure 😎
Looks good Mike. I’m still using my Pit Barrel but, when it’s time to replace it this looks like a good alternative. Great video buddy.
Hey Jobuck, I've been neglecting my Pit Barrel I need to get back on it. I appreciate you stopping by my friend 😎
Nice grill. Ive been wanting a egg type grill. Good Info.
This is a good one for sure. Thanks for stopping by 😎
I love love love my Akorn! 🥰 I have the old school version, though -- no electronics 🤣
Hey Michelle, this is my first Kamado style cooker. I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship 😎
@@mikecha1957 the cast iron grill is the absolute BOMB 💣!
Good looking Wangs!! 🍺🍺
Thank you kindly
How has the temp control been? Did you figure out how to keep it from running hot?
Yes, as long as you just use 1 tumbleweed and only let it go for about 10 minutes. Spread charcoal, then set the temp, it holds low temps solid. Also, I switched to B & B briquettes
@@mikecha1957 thanks for the info, justed ordered pretty excited. I have the old akorn and tip top temp its been a bit temperamental so looking forward to the upgrade.
can you flip the SS heat shield to add a drip pan?
I haven't tried that but I did purchase a separate ceramic flat ceramic heat shield it might work with that.
Good video. Question not related to this experiment. If the interface fails can this still be used as a manual kamado grill?
Good question. You would really need the bottom section from a manual kamado because there is no external vent on this auto kamado. The only air source for the charcoal is the fan. Thank you for the question. If you have more questions please don't hesitate to ask
I saw on another channel that the standard bottom section from the regular akorn kamado fits.
Was the brand new grate already rusting when you got it??
I'm not sure if that was light surface rust or just some sort of coating. But cast iron is prone to rust when exposed to the elements
You don’t need to season stainless or nickel coated parts
Putting a little oil on it doesn't hurt. Thanks for watching

Not saying it hurts anything, but it’s absolutely a waste. Only cast iron and carbon steel can be “seasoned”
@jackwebb5917 Thank you, Jack. I appreciate your concern
