      Yeah man! These kamados don't eat much! Thinking next video will be testing how long charcoal will go lol! 🤣

      Akorn kamados are double wall insulated. Most fuel efficient cooker I've ever used.

    For big briskets.. place 2 pieces of wood. or aluminum wrapped bricks under the brisket to bend the brisket upward.. this will allow bigger briskets to fit (from Harry Soo)

    Nice cook. Would be nice to be able to forget it over night, but I've been surprised how consistent my regular Akorn stays. One comment, I pretty much always use a large foil drip tray. The humidity it adds really helps. Usually just use water with some aromatics celery, carrots, onions, that kind of thing.
    And yes, it's shocking how little charcoal they use.

      Hey Rex, thanks for watching! The original heat deflector is concave and doesn't really allow for a water pan, but i've since used the ceramic / regular one which does. Keeps things clean as well!

    Looks good…my only 2 cents of advice would be to let it rest longer. One hour is definitely not enough time, therefore that’s why the brisket was still super hot. The best pit masters here in TX let them rest from anywhere from 4-8 hours or even longer.. Try it and you’ll see the difference. 👍🏼

    Great video. When you cooked the brisket, were all the coals lit? or did you light a small corner of the charcoals - and it slowly spread across the batch of charcoals? (like the snake method they show for Webers? And roughly how many pounds of charcoal did you put in to start with? 10 lbs? Thanks man. Keep up the good eating! (It'd kill me, but I'd die smiling if ate all this stuff.... HAHAHAHAHA).

    HOW did you go this long without refueling? My MB 560 can probably only get 11 hours out of a full hopper at 225f. How much lump can this hold? I Googled but I'm not seeing the hopper size, I know it's probably not called a hopper here. Looks can be decieving so maybe this can hold as much as the 980. Even if it does, very impressive runtime and the brisket looks amazing. I might have to get one of these because my MB chews up charcoal like it was nothing.

    If you would have burried the wood you would have got a much better smoke ring but that bark looks pretty good.

    Have you ever done fat cap down on this cooker?

  • @bensyoutubeadventures7054

    If you give your butcher paper a little spray of water it becomes much more malleable and easy to fold tight. Doesn't change the cook. 👍

    Can you tell me how many times you had to add more fuel from the time you started for the first cook? I only see you add the wood pieces. Curious how much fuel was needed for being on so long.

    • @RobsBackyardBBQ
      @RobsBackyardBBQ  Před 2 lety +2

      Hey there - thanks for watching! I didn't add anything during the cook.. actually, it had already been going at least a few hours by the time i started with the brisket. I just started filming a new video this evening (about an hour ago) starting with 2 chimneys of lump and seeing how long it will go at 225 before it burns out. I'll have that video up in a day or two :)

    Questions: Since it used so little charcoal would it be better to just run wood for a more smoked flavor?
    I read in the reviews that some people have had issues with the controls going out and once they do it can't be used. How has your experience been with this overall?

    • @alchemistTi
      @alchemistTi Před rokem

      I don't think you're going to experience too little smoke. Charcoal+wood is the way. Don't over-smoke it.

      I saw in another post that the standard (non-electric) bottom section can be purchased separately and is interchangeable. Uses the manual air vent

      Thanks man! Yep, plenty of room for 4 on there. It's about 20", plus it has a 2nd grate that I don't use much.

      Did you end up buying one? How do you like it?

    • @Nathan-wn5mc
      @Nathan-wn5mc Před rokem

      @jhaze918 Yes, I did. I would say it's definitely worth it. If you have a big family, I wouldn't recommend it. You could comfortably feed a family of 4 - 6. It restrains heat really nicely. The fan and digital gauge bug from time to time. I have to unplug and plug it back in every now and then. Also, upgrade your thermometer. Aside from that, I've smoked some really nice Boston butts, chicken, turkey legs, and ribs. I enjoy using mine.

    Ok I’ve done a lot of smokin grillin with charcoal I’m finding it hard to believe you had that much charcoal and a chunk of wood left over after 15 plus hours. I know it’s supposed to be efficient but for me I ain’t buying that. Happy grillin.👍🇺🇸

      Hey man - thanks for watching! It totally held.. actually, I just started a video using 2 chimneys of lump in an empty auto-kamado to see how long it'll run at 225F. Started it about an hour ago - i'll post the finished video in a day or so.
