    Great stories. When Bobby Hull was told that Bryan "Bugsy" Watson, who was mentioned here, had had an accident with a chainsaw, Bobby quipped, "How's the chainsaw doing?"

    Rissling had a face that would scare the homeless outside of the civic center. That original skipjacks team featured Bennett Wolf, Stan Jonathan, Greg Tebbutt, Warren Young, Gary Rissling, Troy Loney, Phil Borque and Steve "slap shot" Carlson

      That is part of the original AHL Baltimore Skipjacks team. Split from mainly pittsburgh with guys like Larry Melnyk (forgot him) from Boston. I think 1981 -2@@Bruins-vq5ey

      Mike Gilllis, Mitch Lamoureaux (AHL record 57 goals). Mainly pittsburgh guys with a few bruins. Missed the playoffs. Wolf led with 226 pims, Melnyk 223. Jim Hamilton, Steve Gatzos, Ted Bulley. Brian Lundberg, Norm Schmidt

    Henderson is good with attention to detail. The amount of players names and stats he remembers from 40 years ago is impressive.

    Really enjoyed listening to Archie, sounds like he is a great guy, lots of fun stories. When he spoke about Victoria only winning four games the previous season, it echoed my written story that I self published on Amazon. It follows a junior A team the season after a disastrous season.

    I didn't get a chance to see to much of Archie Henderson. I did like the way he played. He didn't let playing on the road intimidate him. I think he fought behn wilson twice in a game. Great old time memories of old time hockey

    Holy cow, a blast from the past... met Archie at my summer job in 1980. I remember him telling me about trying to stay in shape for the season, that's why he had a summer job. I knew absolutely nothing about the various leagues and how hockey was organized, don't think I ever understood what junior hockey was. But he explained how hockey had helped secure his financial future forhim and hisfamily, and THAT I understood. He was not the lavish lifestyle type, always very sensible (can't believe I just said that about a guy who never shuts up! Haha!). Turns out he played his first few NHL games after that summer, the 80/81 season. I had no idea that I was working alongside a future NHL player, don't think any of us did, he wasn't the type to brag. Good sense of humor though, I still remember the joke about the three biggest lies... Nice to see it all worked out for him, couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

    Would have liked to hear him speak on Big Behn Wilson…he was a mean as a rattlesnake … I’d read somewhere that Archie claimed Behn was the meanest enforcer out there…
    Also, he saw the talent Probie had early on when he was with Adirondack..Archie spoke to a friend of mine as gushed over Probie
    Being one of the best fighters up and coming & that he had a very promising future as an enforcer in the Show…. Which proved to be spot on!

    Archie qualifies as a "minor league legend" He would have been with Binghampton when i saw him in 82-84. Hard to miss at 6-6

    The game Archie was called up and fought Behn Wilson twice in an all time pims gm which i saw (with rabbit ears lol) by accident hooked my 12 yr old self on hockey. As a original Baltimore Skipjacks fan a few years later (with the EHL/ACHL serving as a bridge) Rissling. Burton and my idol, the original cement head Bennett Wolf, Archie, Val James etc, Bilodeau..................recall them all well. Dave Brown intoduced himself to baltimore by tuning up Nelson Burton in the first AHL game i ever attended. Paul Mercier won a fight vs the home team as well

    • @bigbadbruins1
      @bigbadbruins1 Před 4 měsíci

      That was one tough team.Rissling was my favorite. He did not care who you were he would tune you up. Another favorite was 5 ft 5 Mitch Wilson. He had more balls then anyone.

    • @charlesclark8568
      @charlesclark8568 Před 4 měsíci

      @@bigbadbruins1 Wilson later was the #1 guy in baltimore with Jacques Mailhot and Wally Weir (or Dwight Schofield) in baltimore after i grew into other pursuits and didn't see as many games. With Maine, i saw mitch beat the SHIT out of Rod Schutt and Rod Buskas. Tape collecter/hockeyfight site friend of mine touted MW as one of the best minor lg fighters (and esp lb for lb) of all.
