Chris, I’ve watched a lot of podcasts over the years. I’ve been telling my friends about how impressed I am with your interviewing skills. Of all people, Chris Nilan. Wow. You were very good throwing them, you’re equally as good interviewing them. Keep up the good work and the channel will continue to grow
Love these stories... get Odelein on Chris. Hope his health is OK after all.he went through. Used to see him at the 2nd floor bar at Cheers back in the day...his second home.
Hey Chris. Rangers fan here. Your show is the best thing on CZcams! I played the greatest game in the world since I was around 5 years old. There is hockey and then everything else. I was disappointed to hear that your time as a Ranger was not your favorite as a player. For what it’s worth, we were excited to have you.
I wanted to say that I 100% agree with you about the red line. I said it from day one that guys are going to get hurt. It’s one thing to eliminate the red line in Europe where they don’t hit, and also the rink is wider. The North American game with the smaller ice surface is tailor made for concussions. You have chips from the defensive blue line, forcing the D-man to turn and face the net while a big forward is picking up speed and lining him up. Also, way more open ice hits with the long passes. The red line forces teams to hold up to avoid being off side. That gives the defense a chance to have a better look at where the player bearing down on him is. You’re taught to never give an opposing player your back, keep your head up, etc. In my view, that’s why we see so many head injuries in the past 15-20 years. The league ls doing all kinds of things to eliminate head injuries-rules, better equipment, suspensions, fines, etc. Nothing has worked. Why? Because, aside from better helmets (which have proven to be a failure), all other measures are after the fact. The only way to fix it is to reinstate the red line. They won’t do it because it would slow the game down and there would be less scoring, and probably see more teams trapping. True hockey fans are less interested in high scoring games, and would much rather see tighter checking and fewer odd man rushes or breakaways. I grew up playing and watching in the 70s and 80s. For me, that was the best hockey the league has ever seen. I’m a lifelong Rangers fan, and there was nothing better than beating the Broad Street Bullies or the Big Bad Bruins. Espo lugging the puck going 3 miles an hour through the neutral zone. Dump it in and go to work. I hated Ted Green, but I must admit, I loved number 4. He was a Ranger killer, but I wanted to play just like him. My two favorite Rangers were Steve Vickers and Vic Hadfield. I’d love to see you interview them. Congratulations on your great show. I just found it. I’ve been binge watching. Cheers!
I loved NY, I really did. But I had so many injuries while I was there, it made it tough. If all of that wouldn't have happened I would have loved it a whole lot more. It all had to do with my injuries.
Glad to see you’re doing well, Chris. BTW, please tell Jimmy Sr.I love his stories. I grew up in the same type of neighborhood as you guys in Brooklyn, NY. In my opinion, the best way to grow up.
Jimmy Jr. is playing some great hockey with my Rangers. He’s become a fantastic two way player and the fans love him. Once again, I’m hoping you can get Vic Hadfield and Steve Vickers on your show. Two guys that never hesitated to drop the gloves. If it wasn’t for Vic, Ratelle and Gilbert wouldn’t have had the room. Vickers did the same for his various line mates. Cheers 🍻
A lot of love between those two. A lot of my family history in Charlestown. Not sure what it's like now.
Loved Chris as Hab., nobody, nobody did it like Chris
Yup
Nice 2 c jimmy
I remember bumping shoulders with this guy in a bar in Kingston, i turned around and appoligized and buddy got in my face so i knocked him out. A week later the bouncers told me that the guy was a cop waving his badge around when he woke up. Never went to that bar again.
