One of the best ever NHL defenseman and never took a shift off.
One of the greatest feats in Professional Sports History was Bourque's last season. 40+ years old he lead his team in Ice Team and only one other player in the NHL had more than Ray #77. 40+ years old ! Mind boggling.
I have no homer affinity for Boston or Colorado ... but you are correct. I was thrilled he got his deserved ring in Denver. Orr is a GOD over the position, but Bourque was so damn solid in every aspect of the game. As a North Star fan, I always thought if Ray wasn't around Craig Hartsburg would have received more notoriety. But, he was .92 Bourque. Ray was complete in every way. His shot wasn't Iafrete or MacInnis but accurate and created rebounds every time. Neely appreciated it greatly. One of the best fo sho.
I may have seen everyone of them too, your right
I was born in Boston in '71. Orr era, and Orr was a God, still is. When Ray Bourque won his Cup I'm not ashamed to say I cried in front of everyone.
Ray was the GOLD STANDARD
Love the criss cross! Chris from Boston to Montreal - Ray from Montreal to Boston!
Awesome, in his last playoffs at 40 years old Ray averaged 28:32 mins a night!
i remember playing one game against ray back in december of 1974 at the mount royal arena in montreal it was a late night garage league playing amongst friends and ray was only 14 at the time playing against older guys of 18 and 19 but we could see he had talent especially his skating , i didn;t know who he was but i remember i had no helmet for that game and ray offered me to wear his i;ll never forget it was a red ccm helmet it was a very nice gesture given the fact we didn;t know each other a few years later a friend of mine told me that kid we had played against was ray bourque and played for boston.
Great man!! From my hometown in st Laurent...he was very influential on us youth back in the day...
The good old days of Polyvalente Emile-Legault? And arena now name after him.
Great Interview Chris & Tim. #77
Thanks so much
Love the Habs but always admired Ray Bourque as a player and professional. Never once mailed in a game.
Just love how you guys seem to look younger as you tell stories of each other and laugh about it. Can't get this anywhere. Great job Tim and Chris.
Yes, Chris has a youthful glow.
Chris is a great host. A great raconteur, he is also a listener. Ray is classy, and candid. This is a podcast for real hockey lovers.
I would put Ray Bourque right up there with any d man in gthe game except maybe Bobby Orr.
Bourque is a guy you could build a franchise around.
Ok so that’s why there is a Ray Bourque arena on thimmens blvd in saint Laurent Quebec. Ok. I once worked at sears warehouse next door
Good interview cut short unfortunately…. Please have Ray on again.
Wow a true legend !
One of my favorite Non habs player!
My favorite defenseman, just wish he played for the Canadiens!
Yep. Habs fan here. Ray Bourque is the best damn defenseman I've ever seen play.
@@GilesMcRiker agree!
20+ year man, great to the last drop. Thanks guys.
Cool interview
I live across the street from the Ray Bourque arena in St. Laurent .. it's a happening place. Ray is a legend around here.
Great interview Chris and Tim with Ray. Ray,neely, and moog left me frustrated beating the habs so many times 80s to 90s. Cheered for Ray proudly his time in Colorado both playoff runs for his cup. Happy cried for Ray when he got it handed to him from super Joe! Memories last the lifetimes! Thanks Ray Stanley Cup Champion !!
As a Habs fan, I hate the Bruins...just a bit less then the Leafs...but always respected Ray. World class player...
Same here, funny how you can never root for their team but greatly admire the player.
Most Bs fans felt similarly about Guy and Big Larry. I know we did in my family.
You're a good man knuckles
Thanks buddy
Classy dude .! Great job fellas ! Very honest and sincere. Lovem all to date.
OMG Guys what can anyone say - Tremendous !!! Ray Borque and Bos Mont stories the best. And Stapes chiming in is ok too Keep em coming guys. Best hockey pod in the world and Stapes has not even started up on Russia yet.
Just came across this podcast. Great guests, Knuckles!
Thanks Rick!
I'm really glad I stumbled across this podcast. The content is excellent, some great interviews. I really enjoy it.
Thanks for listening
That was the BEST podcast I have ever watched!! I will tell everyone in Boston, Outstanding Job!
Bourque was amazing, super solid player in every aspect of the game. I remember the Bruins beating the Habs sp many times and it was only because Bourque was such a force. The guy was a tank with top end skill.
3 Things I learned from this interview that I never knew about Ray before.
1- So sad to lose a mom at such a young age.
2- Ray could have been a Midget AAA Lac St-Lion 🦁 in their inaugural season.😲
3-Ray has an incredible memory regarding a 1991 story.
All good reasons to listen to the whole interview!
Knuckles: a Boston guy who played for the Habs
Bourque: a Montreal guy who played for the B’s
It’s amazing how Bourque accomplished so much while being in the shadow of Bobby Orr.
No it isn't. Ray arrived 3 years after Orr left - and Ray has always been his own highly skilled, hardworking person.
@@4orrcountry Your right...Bourque was a superior defenseman to Orr too. But easily Orr was the best overall player I ever saw by a mile sorry Wayne and Mario
Great interview! Up until now, I’ve never seen the other side of Ray;his impression of Rene Angelil was hysterical. Also, it was interesting to hear about everything that led up to the trade to Colorado 23 years ago. You definitely need to bring him back b/c I could listen to him tell stories for hours.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another great episode guys. Thank you. 🔵⚪🔴
Interview Terry O Rielly then Rick Middleton. Great interview.
They'll be coming on...stay tuned
@@therawknucklespodcast Awesome
And the great Brad Park, I hope.
@@4orrcountry For sure.
Great show.
Memories. Some awesome some not so much.
It's great to here about some of the behind the scenes action.
Ray was like Boston's iron horse.
Great work Chris!
A Montrealer who played for Boston interviewed by a Bostonian who played in Montreal.
What are the chances?
..with the Bostonian doing the interview in Montreal with the Montrealer perhaps currently in Boston.😆
Again Knuckle : What a show !!!! I was an young kid when you were plating in the 80 S. I am very proud of you and super enjoy your show .You're cool funny and very good TV Host. Merci pour le bon show Chris !!
Salut Ray and Chris, beautiful podcast, merci beaucoup!
Thanks so much Mike
Top three defenseman to ever play the game. I used to get so frustrated in the early 90's when the Bruin's would beat the Habs because of the dominance of Bourque, Neely and Moog.
I remember being a young kid and opened a Scotiabank Hockey acct aimed at young kids and you’d get a monthly hockey magazine and the one I truly remember was one with Ray Bourque and another Bruins young d guy and they called them Blue Chip prospects. Was so happy for him to win that cup with the avalanche
Amazing career
The other young Bs D had to be Brad McCrimmon who had good, long NHL career and later, tragically died in a plane crash while coaching Locomotiv in the Russian league. RIP, Brad.
An other great one such a great player and a classy person very please that he won the cup good job Chris and Tim
Great interview! I was lucky enough to meet Ray a few times. As a young defenseman growing up in Boston, he was my favorite!
Bourque takes a little time to warm up, but he tells great stories once he's ready! That Lou's Blues story is hysterical. Bourque will never forget it & Knuckles will never remember it! LOL ...Great episode. ...I wanted to hear about the Phil Esposito story, and that play with Mario Lemieux. One day, do a part 2.
Yeah come off the tee and continue for the second period.
We have to consider how many times he's been asked these questions.
@@matt75hooper And, the stuff about him not knowing English back in the day probably makes him a little insecure in an interview ... especially with a typical South Boston chatterbox like Knuckles Nilan. He's a humble gentleman.
@@stevedrake604 Absolutely not. Never mistake an accent for someone being ill at ease with language. Ray's not searching for words in this fabulous interview, he's just fine after living in the U.S. for 40+ years.
As we just saw here, Ray is completely comfortable speaking English.
Another legend. Another great interview.
Ray was my favorite Bruin growing up. Watching win thw Cup that night I bawled like a baby. Was so happy for Ray
NO Waaaaaaaaay! It's Ray Bourque everyone! Nice surprise. What a legend.
Great stories. Will done Knucks
My favourite interview to date thank you gentlemen for the memories 😊
This was Great...Grew up watching Ray in Boston from his 1st to Last game here...and of course Knucks, fellow Boston guy...love em'...couldn't have been happier when he came "home" to play. Solid stuff Chris & Tim.
I am sure I have been in that Westie parking lot that Nilan mentions about a dozen times...wherever that lot is or was.
Hey, Chris! Good to see you, still have good memories of our talk about the old school when i saw you that time in Forest Hills, 2008 or so. Keep on keeping on.
Always a treat to see an interview with Ray. Captain, my Captain.
Great interview
Just discovered your channel. Absolutely love your format . Totally feel like I’m hanging out with the boys again talking and listening to great hockey stories. Spreading the news to all my friends to subscribe to your channel. Keep up the great stuff 👍
Thanks Mike! Really appreciate it
Just discovered these podcasts and it's the 2nd I watch in 3 days. Great perspectives by Ray and helped validate a few things for this Bruins fan of 46 years.
probably one of the greatest swan song ever!
That was a great interview!!
As usual awesome interview! Best hockey podcast out there!
Wow, thanks!
Melrose Ma , the rink was called Hockey Town . It had a rink upstairs and a rink in the basement with 4 building support pillars at mid ice . Learned to skate with your head up
HOF #77 great interview !
I started listening to this podcast about 2 months ago I can’t get enough of it Ray one of the Best to play the game
Thank you Chris for these pod casts.
Man I just found this podcast and it's excellent. Such a great interview 👏
One comment from Ray that is so true: even if you are drafted 1 st choice, it doesn't automatically make you a star, no way, you have to have an impact. Work your ass off, prove yourself.
GREAT podcast with two legends! Thank you Knuckles, you made my day off a great one!!🤟
This was amazing!! I enjoyed every minute of it. I will be forwarding this to all my friends that are Bruins fans.
There you go....🙌..one of the great boston bruins.......don't forget the rest of my list lol
Great interview of a classy guy like yourself Knucks. Being a Boston Boy I've followed your career since the beginning and was inspired by you as a player myself. Ive fought battles both on and off the ice my friend and understand how much of a warrior you are. Been watching the show since the start and love it. thanks for all you hard work and dedication Knucks. Peace.
Great interview! I always loved Bourque and his gameplay. I think it's because he is leaning his head forward towards the camera, but 77 has a comically large head compared to the rest of his body in this video! 10:52 for example.
Raymond such a great, i hated him with a passion when he playing in boston, but later i started to feel for him knowing that his carrer was getting short as he got older i was so happy when he won the Stanley cup with Colorado
A really great defenseman awesome team player! Great to bring those stars and their NHL beginning.
As a lifelong Bruin fan Nifty was my first favorite player but then it was Ray. Thank you for doing this interview, I loved it! So glad you came to Boston - I disliked you in Montreal 😊
Sorry just watched the rest ...
He is a all around great artist...
Imitation ultra ..of a French Canadian ..great
Another great one!!!
Always wished he was a hab
living NW from Montreal I grew up a Boston Fan, I was either Espo, Orr, Cheevers , after Raymond won with the Avs I got to shake his hand concrats saying I wished he could won the cup with Bruins, Bob Hartley was the Coach he lives near our hometown, same hometown as Kevin Lowe(Lachute, Quebec), that makes 7 cups i witnessed, 6 with Kev one with the Avs
Ray's about to describe first coming to Boston, and Chris cuts him off, interjecting to declare, " You were "Rookie of the Year", and ."You..." uuggh
My hero the best ever besides orr
Good interview
But should of spent some time talking about the Habs/Bruins rivalry in the 80s and 90s
Well Ray did have a tee time lol
Fun times, and like he says his only regret was not winning a cup as a Bruin. In his prime, to win the Stanley Cup generally meant having to go through 1 of 3 teams. The Habs, Penguins and Oilers...and they could never combine defeating 2 of them in the same playoff.
You do a great job with “all” the interviews.
Too humble - put up massive numbers and is in the upper tier of players all-time and probably 2nd best dman to ever play
Absolutely. Orr #1 obviously, but Ray and Big Larry may be tied for 2nd.
After Orr is there anyone better? He could have had Paul Coffey numbers..... but he was a defenseman first including taking the body at every chance. It hurts that he didn't get a cup here in Boston no one deserved one more
Salut Raymond, dans notre ligue de Laval ils étaient appelés les "Bébites(4-6 ans, je crois)".
Thanks Tim and Chris, Love your show . Chris, how did you deal with the Canadian Beer, as apposed to american beer? (and do you think Tim could keep up?) No wonder you fought so much. Love your cast. . BTW I'm a ranger fan. Thank you for your time in NY. Still strongly dislike the Habs, of course, but you cannot deny the greatness of the Montreal Canadians.!!!!!!!!
Thanks so much Richard, I really appreciate it. Keep listening and please help us spread the word
TGOAT HOSTS TGOAT 🎉❤
Great fucking show knucks!!
Great chat with Mr Ray of sunshine!! Another feather in the cap of the Maritimes. So cool.
Bourque was driven. Every shift. A Bruin but a phenomenal player. Go Habs go
Eat me, Gary.
Amazing interview, learned so many new things about this iconic d-man and maybe even better human. So much class! I'd just like to add "au contraire" just how much of a piece of shib Harry Sinden was! How dare he treat Ray so bad after all his loyalty...so disgusting!
The wat hockey should b played
Who is the Alain guy from Fredericton? Alain Who?
I don't know, sorry. He played hockey with Ray in junior, you might be able to look it up
Keith Brown was pretty good
Sure, but Brown doesn't belong in the conversation. Ray is 2nd or 3rd to Orr, Big Larry being the other guy.
@@4orrcountry In that draft lol Brown had a good career
Bruins getting rid of Al Secord and Brad McCrimmon cost them the Cup. To trade them away for Pat Riggin and Mike O’connel destroyed the Bruins for 30 years. O’connel was worst GM bruins ever had .
very sorry v
The more I learn about knucks the more respect I have for him
Here's the goal he's talking about...I think...czcams.com/video/I43p6zRZobc/video.html
The Best Defenseman after Bobby Orr and way better than Brad Park!
great player but winning a cup elsewhere was more important to win
sorry
I'm kidding thia inrweciqw
The draft is like a doctor who finished last in his class, it don't matter. He's still a
doctor.
not a real bruins in my book
I mean ....what a man...human athlete ...name it .."" tops""
And kind....I knew some guys from St Laurent ..that knew him..back..then ...
Thank you....
Long time ago when Mr Nilan..joint the big Canadian .at the old forum.. ( He was a kid ..and was ultra energy..on his own bench ...which so admirable it was
The team was trailing ...and Chris was sitting next to Brian Engblom..like a great ball of fire and a laughing ..
I could read Brian 's lips ..saying .
" Chris cut it out man "
It was hilarious and cute
