- The judge overseeing Jeremy Goodale’s gruesome murder case sentenced the teen to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years. Goodale and Willard Miller both pled guilty to the murder of their Spanish teacher, Nohema Graber. Miller was sentenced to life in prison.

He's not crying because of the woman he murdered, he's crying because he's being punished for it. Acting and pretening to be sorry. Check the video in which he "apologizes", he says "I didn't know how taking Ms. Graber's life would affect you" - Serioulsy???? What he's implying is that he doesn't regret murdering his Spanish teacher, but he regrets it because of how it affected others. How about thinking of the pure, intense, unimaginable horror that Ms. Graber must have felt when she realized she was being murdered by her own students in the last moments of her life???? Even if Ms. Graber hadn't been a caretaker for her family, and her life hadn't meant much to anyone else, he should be apologizing and acknowledging that what he did, murdering an innocent woman in a premeditated, brazen, brutal way in which she had absolutely no possibility to defend herself was cowardly, profoundly evil, and unforgivable. His "apology" is insincere, he is not sorry for what he did, he is sorry because he is being punished for what he did

Not realizing consequences applies when a kid steals a car, when a kid kills a teacher, strips her body naked then joke about it on Snapchat is a dangerous and perverse human.
And what about the prefrontal cortex of the brain being underdeveloped and not yet fully formed at the age he was when this happened? You, along with the other 80% who feel the way you do, need to stop treating these teens like they are 30 year old adults with fully formed brains.

It's a matter of emotion in the teenage brain combined with the underdeveloped prefrontal cortex which is the part of the brain that makes people draw logical conclusions and realize possible consequences.
Combine this with psychological disorders and/or possible mental illness and it provides a possible reason why these things happen.

Being a teacher has turned up to be dangerous on modern times

Yes! It infuriates me to keep seeing comments about how this was just a terrible mistake by "children." They were depraved. Stripping off her clothes and then playfully talking about the entire crime on Snapchat were what sealed the deal for me that these weren't just lost children making an impulsive mistake. They planned it out and they enjoyed every minute of it (until they got caught, of course).

I’d truly be surprised if the Supreme Court doesn’t step in within another 10 years & make it unconstitutional to sentence minors to life. This had been a huge newer law recently & a lot of minors have been resentenced & even released. They have to give them an opportunity for restitution.

I was a typical teenager and yes occasionally I upset a teacher and a few teachers upset me, but the LAST thing on my mind was to ever hurt them! In fact after a day or 2 i had enough sense to realize the reason the teacher was upset with me was because of something I said or not doing my work properly and making me realize i have to do better and thats part of maturing. Now a days more and more kids don't think this way and unfortunately use violence more and more.

Well by law he has to be eligible for parole, that doesn’t necessarily mean he will get it.
For people saying he shouldn't have got parole; the judge says that the law doesn't allow him to give life without parole because the defendant is only 16. He clearly said if the defendant had done this 18 months later, he would be looking at life. Also just because the possibility of parole existis doesn't mean he will get it. His conduct while in prison, the nature of the crime, family positions, and many other factors will be considered. Given the circumstances of this crime, he will have an uphill battle from the start d7e to how horribly bruttle the crime was.

Cases like this make me completely rethink my stance on the death sentence. He did it, he stated so himself why should he get one ounce of leniency.
The only reason is because he is a minor. Otherwise he would’ve received a longer sentence.
Unfortunately States are finding death sentences unconstitutional and abolishing it.
You don't know what is going on in this young man's life. He could suffer from a mental illness. He could come from a violent home with abusive parents so violence is what he knows. He was 16 when this happened. The prefrontal cortex of his brain isn't even fully formed yet.
Why should his admitting what he did automatically mean that society should put him to death?
They don't get a lot of things right. But thank God in His Heaven that the Supreme Court struck down the death penalty for people under 18 based on the science that their brains are not yet fully formed.

Also, the reason he did not get the death sentence is because the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that people under 18 cannot be put to death because it violates the Constitution's prohibition against 'cruel and unusual punishment.' The reason for this is because the brain is not yet fully formed yet. Specifically the prefrontal cortex which allows for logical reasoning and forming things through to a logical conclusion.

As a social worker mental health is no joke w/ our youth. There is no respect for one’s self, let alone another human life. To be rehabilitated in prison is a joke. No one wins, but look around, tragically this is becoming the norm in our society. Juvenile offenders are off the charts….

This judge is pathetic. He doesn't have any remorse... It's not obvious that he has regret... He beat a frail old woman to death over a GRADE and left her exposed body under a wheelbarrow... On top of that, he hunted her like she was prey so he could learn her day to day movements; it was not in the heat of the moment, it was thoroughly premeditated. My god, 25 years is pathetic.

AND you should be incorrect in your outrage. HIS sentence is 25 to LIFE, which in many to most cases means LIFE, Don't believe for a second he will be out at 42 years old, or achieve parole in his state penal system!
25 years is a long time! The only way he will get parole after that is if he has minimal write ups, has taken tons of self help classes, gotten a degree & has become a trustee.

Regret refers to his behavior after the offense, not during. Have you followed what he has done since the murder? What has he done since arrested?
This murderer's trial would have taken less time than this judge's apology to him for sentencing him to at least 25 years for a heinous murder. Sickening on all accounts.

When you plan something together, you know what you are doing, and you should pay for what you do. He got caught and was the first one to give it up. He was a follower, and pot has nothing to do with it. These kids have too much time on their hands, and they aren't being supervised and nurtured in the right capacity. 😢😢😢

Our laws are way to lenient, I don’t care what degree of murder is performed you should never be released from prison. The person you killed does not get to go forward and the families have to love the rest of their lives without their loved ones.
I will always believe the reason there is so much crime in the United States is our judicial system is to light.
Special prayers for the family and friends of the deceased. Also prayers for the murderer and pray he ask God to forgive him.

I am not really disagreeing with you, but there was no chance of this happening., because he was a minor at the time of the crime. The title of this video is silly, because it is not "shocking" at all, it was merely only a question of 25 to life or 30 to life.

The codefendant got 35 to life, so I expected that would be the upper bound on the minimum. I think he should have received the same sentence, as they were partners in the same crime. The judge thought Goodale was less culpable, but ten years less?
He was 16, pled guilty, took full responsibility for his actions, and showed remorse. He’s a clear candidate for rehabilitation. Some of you people always wish the worst for every offender. 25-35 years in prison is a very long time for a kid that age. That’s a lot longer than he’s been alive.

And it wasn’t even his own grade. It seems like that makes it worse, but how could it be worse? Also, did the judge repeat himself over and over? It seemed like he was delaying the sentencing as long as he could. I feel really bad for his dad. This boy broke him too. It’s incomprehensible that teenagers kill over grades.

I disagree. These judges do a tough job, too, & they’re morally bound to not simply drop sentences immediately without explanation of the law & the effects of such heinous crimes on the community & society. Besides it’s only 30 minutes, sheesh. Also they must go through mitigating vs. aggravating factors, etc.
he's actually required to go through the circumstances based on a list of factors, and he has to explain his reasoning for each item on the list.

Yes, there's definitely parental responsibility when a 16 year old murders. With a little more attention and effort, this killing could've been thwarted.
He’s giving him over the board favoritism in mitigation factors listening to this judge I feel so sorry for the deceased murdered teacher that was kille in a henious manner by this defendant. The judge is spending way too much time to give him favor and show what he considers as mitigating factors or “excuses” for murderous behavior by this kid. Any kid over 11 knows murder is definite and smoking weed

This judge doesn't inspire confidence. He's very long-winded and repetitive.
The judge has to use case law in what happened in other cases to determine the sentence. Each factor letter has to be addressed the reason why as well.
He is trying to sentenced these individuals within the law...otherwise they will appeal as each factor has not been addressed.
That mitigation has not reduced his sentence overall.
So young and already a murderer. What is happening to the youth of this era? It's sickening!
