    She was sane enough to pose as her mom on the phone with the deans, and sane enough to make up a story about strangers breaking in. If you’re insane, you don’t have the capacity to cover up your crimes. I hope the jury sees through it all and holds her accountable. Even if her condition is so severe that it’s what caused her to murder her mother, then she’s sick enough to live in a mental institution for the rest of her life. You don’t allow a person capable of this to walk among the rest of us.

      Why do people think that the mentally ill are all blathering basket cases? Maybe your only exposure is to homeless people (many of whom are mentally ill) or your only information about mental illness is from movies? You would be surprised how many mentally ill people are out in society and you'd never guess that they are sick. Most are not dangerous. Most hide their illness because they are embarrassed or fearful or confused or in denial. It's much more complicated than she's crazy or she's not crazy. Much more complicated.

    • @acason4
      @acason4 Před 2 měsíci +2

      I don't think it's as easy as your objective outside view concludes. Listen I agree with you, the daughter was clearly an entitled brat, but that doesn't mean her family doesn't still love her & their love for the daughter doesn't negate the love they had for the mother/victim. These things are not mutually exclusive. I don't think they have a "total disregard" I think it's probably more attune to them just trying to hold onto what they have left despite the fact that she's the reason they lost the mother. It seems to me the family is completely devastated & the only coping mechanism is try to hold onto the daughter/granddaughter despite her repugnant actions. Emotions make people delusional in the sense that they'll deny reality to cope with the pain. It doesn't excuse what she did, it doesn't excuse her very earned life sentence, I just don't think the dichotomy is as clear as you're outlining. As an outsider I see your point, but the family is clearly in a very difficult position one of which there are no good outcomes.

      I completely agree with you. I'm so sorry about your dear mama. I also lost my mom to cancer. It's been 27 years ago and my mom was only 47. With time it gets a little easier to deal with but obviously it never goes away. Some days it's just as raw and painful as it was the day she died. Thankfully that doesn't happen too often. I do have my occasional crying fits, though. Then I remind myself that my mama is no longer in pain and she's in a much, MUCH better place...and that I WILL see her again one day. You, too will be reunited with your mom.
      It makes me incredibly FURIOUS when I see daughters/sons disrespect their mom. (I'm talking about good moms. Not the evil ones who abuse and neglect their children.) And she lied for months, plotted behind her parents' backs.. and yet seemed to act normally in society while putting on a pretense in court. I watched the body language expert's analysis and he said her reactions weren't ones of a mentally deranged person.
      I'm not new to crime stories, and most of the time when mental health is put forward at first, it appears later that it's just an excuse. Some crimes are too abject to be believed intentional, yet they are. Human nature can be surprisingly evil.
