That one buck is dang nice! Hmm, you got me thinking now. Great idea!
Yessssss!! Been following him for 3 years….he was my top target deer this year but got killed on a neighboring property! He was a heck of a big woods deer!!
Nice addition to the food plot, good luck with it.
Thanks!! Yeah it has been working good so far!! Wasn’t a huge draw during season, but the summertime was a pool party for the deer!! Hahaha!!!
I'd recommend some sturdy work boots for shovel work like that; rubber boots don't stand up to a shovel for too long, and I don't think you need them to keep your feet dry. Also, depending on cardinal direction for incoming light, a great spot for a camera was that tree... right there. North-facing camera images don't get washed out with morning or evening sunlight.
Agreed!! Those boots are a little cheesy for me hahahah!!!!
Deer obviously like the addition ...
Yessss, especially in the summer during the drought….there was no ponds and minimal flowing water anywhere this summer, so I had a hot commodity!! There was a couple weeks in august I had 3-8 deer per evening running and sprinting and drinking for like an hour!! Fun to see the animals play in the water hole! Activity slowed up a lot more in the fall but still had deer coming for a drink fairly often!
That's great, just to have been able to watch all that action because of the water hole. Was well worth the effort.
Yes for sure and as the years go by more and more deer will discover it!
Another idea is if you don’t have clay right on top you could dig the hole bigger and either use the clay deeper down or go get some and pack it down and it should hold water, same concept they use in man made bass ponds
That is a great idea!!! I saw a video of that on the Huntin Grounds channel where he brought in clay and had to pack it super hard so the water didn't seep out but it worked good!!
Hmmm,I might have to do a big enough one so I can water my plot if it’s dry
That is not a bad idea!!! Let that rain water fill it up and in a time of need bring in a trash pump and sprinkler!!
How is this water hole looking now after spring rain? And will deer keep visiting it after bloom? I have tried synthetic water holes over the years with minimal success. I like the concept, and the clay bottom makes a lot of sense.
Water hole is doing great!!!! I have a hen turkey that comes to it every day around 8:30-9ish! Deer don’t hit it everyday right now but there is tons of water in the woods right now!!the clay works amazing!!!!
Water holes are awesome additions, that looked like some of our NC clay,I could definitely do that here great video
You guys got lots of clay out that way?? Most of Wisconsin does not have clay, but we are up near Lake Superior and supposedly the lake used to be wayyyy bigger (glacial lake Duluth), and my property is 2-300 yards from the clay line…so potentially at one time my land was the shores of Lake Superior so that’s why we have clay! I want to make a video on that someday!
@@swostillwateroutdoors wow awesome, that would make a great video, nothing but clay here lol
Hahahaha!! Didn’t know that about NC!!
I might have to try that, but they claim the deer get most of their water from plants.I need to look into that .
Yessss…they don’t necessarily need a water hole, during the drought this summer there was TONS of activity on the water hole, once fall came around they would still come for a drink but not nearly as often!
