  • 05-17-20. Join me for a follow up look at the 2 wildlife ponds, aka deer watering holes, that I recently dug with my Bobcat e42 mini excavator as well as the water erosion/water drainage ditches that I created to strategically re route the water flow on this land clearing land management property project that we've been working on. Living on an Illinois homestead, or doing wildlife conservation, or property management is and can be very rewarding when you have some success! I had a certain 'vision' for this property that is definitely coming to fruition very quickly! After several days of rain on and off I decided to take a walk and check this Illinois land project to see how my excavator work, wildlife ponds/deer watering holes and new ditches were doing. You'll get to see them with me to see how I did, and see what else might need to be done, as well as if they are holding water or if they were just a 'bust,' and a waste of time. Thanks for joining me, please hit the Like button, comment and share if you enjoy our content, it really helps us and we greatly appreciate it. Also consider subscribing to follow this land management project as well as all of our other Illinois and Kentucky land management projects, food plots, land clearing, clearing land, Bobcat T650 CTL skid steer projects, Bobcat e42 mini excavator projects, hunting land improvement projects, Branson tractor projects, food plots, duck ponds, wildlife ponds, watering holes, waterfowl food plots, deer food plots, building roads, building trails, DIY landscaping, DIY rustic home decor, our Kentucky farmhouse rehab project, DIY rustic red cedar projects, DIY rustic barn wood projects, and much more country living adventures. Nice looking watering holes. Funny how curious deer are and how they check out freshly touched soil

    That 2nd water hole came out pretty nice. I'd say ole Kap knows a thing or two about picking out some water hole spots. Surprised the deer came out to check them out so fast. Full-watch.

    Try sprinkling a bag or two of bentonite clay over the floor of ur ponds then add several bags of leaves: the water logged leaves will sink and together with bent. Clay make a wonderful natural pond liner

    Those ditches will fill your water holes up with sediment. In addition, you need sloping banks on your waterholes. Those steep banks will make it difficult for most wildlife to utilize the water source. Could even create a trap for some animals. Particularly fawns.

    had a question when you have certain spots of land that are alot greener than others. does that mean the terain is holding the water underground closer to the surface? or is water more capable of gathering and staying there because of the soil?

      @kapperoutdoors  Před 4 lety

      yes they are cool to watch, but very, very expensive, you need a much bigger machine, and they leave a ton of acidic debris, so getting things to grow is more challenging. There are lots of different ways to do different things. Thanks
