    This is on of my favorite songs. Faddis played it so well and smooth. Knowing what he's capable I'm surprised at the restraint!

    Jon Faddis, after leaving Gillespie, truly came on his own with not too high screamers but with a beautiful warm tone like in his Teranga.Keep Swingin'

      Al Hirt plays the crap out of this song at a Concert with Maynard Ferguson. His old school recordings of it aren't my thing, but that one concert he was on fire.

    Beautiful on his Schilke horn! No heavyweight mouthpiece but I guess thats because he was not playing extremely high?

    • @charliecampbell6851
      @charliecampbell6851 Před 5 lety +2

      Alex Peschell Yup! heavyweights can help tighten down the partials in the high register, but for lower range the extra stiffness can complicate the loose style Jon plays in this one. They also take away a bit of the core of the sound, which is not wanted for a nice ballad like this one.

      I don't think so. The horn he's playing has an adjustable 3rd valve slide ring. That's not standard equipment on a Schilke. Look on the Schilke website. Maybe Jon had it special ordered. ???

    • @gregaudrey4299
      @gregaudrey4299 Před 3 lety +1

      @@ironmandave3000 I read that when had his personal model made for himself, he did indeed request the adjustable ring because his hands are so large.

    • @gregaudrey4299
      @gregaudrey4299 Před 3 lety +1

      From the Everything Trumpet article (Schilke Loyalist) : “The one modification Jon has on his personal horn that isn't included on the Faddis model is an adjustable third valve slide ring like your old student model. Faddis has large hands and changes his grip frequently and likes the adjustability of the ring.”

    Too slow a tempo. Too soft an attack. This is stuck in slow motion, as if the trumpet player 'can't get started'.

    • @callmeBe
      @callmeBe Před 4 lety +5

      "Too soft an attack." Lee, an attack is how the player initially engages any note with air stream guided by embrasure and engaged by tongue. How do you hear Faddis attacks as sloppy (if you are, indeed, a trpt. player)? I hear his attacks as clean and pure, and obviously the foundation to his perfection of the high register. I also think the tempo is spot on, but yes, by nature it is very slow.
