    Had this happen in college with the woman that lived across from me in the dorms. She’d been in her dorm room for at least two weeks deceased until she was discovered and I understand 100% what it means about that smell. That’s the only reason we called 911.There’s absolutely nothing like that kind of smell and once you smell it you never forget what that smell means.

      My elderly neighbor went missing. We lived in a rural setting. Our dogs began feeding on him after he decomposed. Law enforcement couldn't find him WITH A CADAVER DOG so they put a tracking collar on our dog and she led them to his corpse. He ended up being very close to our home on some hunting land. He had dementia and apparently got lost or overcome with heat. He was missing for several weeks before I heard my dogs rolling his skull around on our deck. It was very sad IMO that his children got him back like that. When he first went missing they had choppers and ATVs and ALOT of people on the ground searching to no avail.

    Once you smell decomp, especially human decomp, you'll ALWAYS know the smell. The combo of glucose and iron as the body breaks down is a kind of sweet sickening smell. Coupled with bacterial gas is just hard to deal with. I've had to throw out clothes I've worn from working scenes. Maybe it was psychological but I couldn't get them clean.

    • @rosiep7642
      @rosiep7642 Před 2 lety +3

      Chris Neal, I know what you're talking about. Human decomp is distinctly different from animal decomp. I wasn't aware that the sweet odor was because of the reason you described. It was almost a bit fruity. Weird.
      When I came home at night after working at my rental house (all day, every day - for two months), I'd strip off everything from head to toe and throw it in the washer before showering. I had to throw away a couple of pairs of shoes.
      And, yes, it took a long time to get that smell out of my head.

We would be awakened in earliest mornings with the most toe curling agonizing shrieks and shortly after the stench of decaying burning flesh would fill the air. It was an indescribable smell but I remember it to be overwhelming and nauseous.
