- This is an update on the new layout, where I describe the issues and work I have been doing. It's taken some time to get to this point as summer surprised us with another good spell in September, plus a lot of technical stuff had to be sorted before I was satisfied. Please feel free to leave any comments', suggestions or just say hi!
Hi. I think what you have done is amazing. Looks great. We'll done. Excellent track plan.
Les - thank you so much for the comment and your kind words. I hope the track plan does work out, and I'm taking my time to ensure each forward step is correct so that I do less repair after the act as it were. Thank you for watching.
Regards
Steve
Good morning Steve! You've made some great progress, especially with the inclines! The track plan is taking shape, and it looks like the easing of the curves has solved the issue of locos being able to make the climb up the hill! Regarding the decoupling, I've found that my lighter wagons decouple quite often going up the inclines as the rapido couplers "bounce" out of lock! Adding a bit of weight helps, but I think the eventual solution will be magnetic couplers! Oh, and yes, those Rail Joiner Mates are an absolute godsend aren't they? Keep up the good work! All the best, Ian.
Cheers Ian - now I can put down rails that actually line up and are even! Wished I'd known about those before, would have saved my thumb some pain. There are still very minor issues with the track but I keep running the locos each day and each day I solve a niggle, so one day it should be perfect, (I hope).

Steve
Good morning Steve, the phoenix has risen making good progress looking forward to seeing your layout progress the 2F looked powerful going up the incline cheers al
HI Al - yes its been a while taking off but its starting to happen. As you may know, I'm a winter model rail builder, as the summer months I am taken up with out door hobbies and commitments, but I have still managed to get some time in the shed. AS the nights draw in now, and the garden goes to sleep, I will get more time and hopefully have more progress to report.

Steve
Good progress on the layout. The sound fitted stream engine going up the incline was especially pleasing. Cheers Euan
Thanks' Euan, and that one is the weakest loco I have, as it's second hand, tends to wobble at times and the front bogey is not attached so jumps all over the place but seems to handle the track well.

Hi Steve you have been working hard, just as a point there trains in England drive on the left. i have to allow with my four countries that England is on the left and the other three drive on the wright but some of France drive on both hope this helps. Colin
Thanks Colin - I never really understood that as a beginner but I am glad Mark pointed it out to me and I have changed the direction of both locos now, luckily it doesn't affect the planned layout I have in mind.

Morning Steve wow some brilliant progress matey love the track plan making me want to go double track now matey lol not good lol
ATB
Sion
Cheers Sion - I do like a double track as when the locos and the rakes cross each other it makes a wonderful sight. Starting on the outer scenic parts now, as they are quite a stretch away, but at least I can now run two locos and enjoy the art of playing!

@@lynganddistrict please don’t rub it in lol won’t really take much to convert my layout now to double track lol been thinking all day lol
Take it easy and catch you soon

one quick comment why are the trains on the up line and the down line running the wrong way, UK trains run on the left not the right in the direction of travel!!
Yes that has been pointed out to me and thank you for doing the same. In my defence, as a newbie to the world of railways, I never even considered which side the locos were on - now I know different I have changed the running direction.

Steve
Hi, new track plan seems to be coming together well and obviously works. So I have two questions.
Why are you running wrong line for a British layout ? Or is that because the locomotives won't climb the hill the in the other direction ?
HI Mark, I am a bit confused by your questions. I made sure that both tracks were at the correct angle for the locos to climb in any direction. I did not realise there was a thing as a "wrong line for British layout", I would love for you to enlighten me further as I have no experience of in this field. I just chose to run them opposite each other for now as I have only two lines laid out.
Would greatly appreciate a more detailed explanation!

Steve
@@lynganddistrict Sorry, the question wasn't meant to offend, but normally trains in this country pass right hand side to right hand side, especially in the steam era, and you did the opposite, so I was basically wondering if there was a reason.
@PiddleInTheMarshbyMarkIreland aĥhhh I see ..... never knew that thank you soo much for that info. Will take that on board. Cheers Mark
