  • Happy Easter to you All! Well I would never had thought I'd reach 70 videos on this hobby of mine - welcome to Episode 70 (and it's along one) where I catalogue the progress of the scenics and the problems associated with running trains that happen for no good reason! I have also treated myself to some new stock and a new loco from @GE_Models. Lyng and District is certainly growing up. Thank you to all my new subscribers (4 more to reach 500 - wow!) and for the advice from the community after my last video. Thanks also go to @HaroldRoad and to @IronHorseRailways for defending the hobby, it has reignited my faith in the community. Hope you enjoy.

Very good Steve, sorting out these issues is all part of the fun apparently, like the new loco and coaches.

Thanks Chris - yeah it very much is no matter how frustrating it can get. It seems to be a curse of the video camera that everytime I try and film a running session the locos decide to mess up!

Hi Steve, that's nice new addition to your fleet, and the scenic area you've been working on is coming along nicely, we enjoyed the update. Hope all goes well, and you're back in action soon... Cheers James 🙂👍

Oh I will be fine - just have to rest and take things easy for a week then gently ease myself back in - just no bending or lifting - will concentrate on model making instead. Thank you for the concern though James - much appreciated.

Well done with sorting the running issues, the new loco sounds impressive. Never heard spoken word on a sound decoder before.
The layout is coming along nicely. Keep up the great work Steve, and it's so true that they are our layouts and we run what we enjoy.
    All the best

Thanks Allan - no I didn't know they had speech ether - was a surprise when I read through the instructions! I know you can get station announcements - I saw that on a video a while back. Thanks for the support.

Greetings Steve 🐲🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 that was an action-packed update 😲 With new trains, operations and even some filing 😉 As for your coaches 🤔 the "brakes" will top and tail the rake, with "first class" normally at the London end 😇 with the buffet between it and standard class 🤞 unless a gatekeeper says different 😱 The N Gauge Community are lucky the rivet counters tend to leave us alone 👍 and there are lots of friendly people to help if you need it 😁 Very best wishes for your hospital visit 🤞I'm sure you'll return with a newly built station 🤔 including lighting 😇 Happy Easter 🐣 from the Emerald Isle ☘️

Well done on persevering through that derailment issue - the burr(s) must have been very small to not be detectable when you ran your fingers over the join!
I find sound-fitted steam locos particularly satisfying, and it's great to see yours can pull a reasonable load up the incline 🙂
The rivet counter topic is interesting - I saw that first video you mentioned, but found the guy slightly contradictory in things he said. Charlie, too, in his videos has both mocked lack of accurate representation of reality as "playing with a train set", whilst then in another video called people who care about particular accuracy of signal behaviour "sad". I think people who say they're aiming to make something as accurate as possible, on social media, are implicitly inviting feedback from those who know more, but I also think that feedback is best phrased kindly and constructively. Personally I'm not very knowledgeable about the real railways, so run it more like you describe, and love it! 😂
Great to see the greenery and buildings spreading onto more of your layout. All the best for the operation - I hope it's all straightforward and that you recover quickly 🙂

Yes when I ran my finger over it felt smooth but I think the issue was with the side of the rails. Just happy I stopped it. The point I was trying tom make was that saying, "somewhere to hang my imagination on" suited me down to the ground and that I see no reason to put people down over trivial matters. I'm proud to say I play with a train set! I admire those who dedicate themselves to re creating real situations in the model world but I do not have the space nor the dedication and skills to do so. Thank you Jonathon for your kind words, they are much appreciated
      Regards
      Steve.

Well done on sorting out the vexations that the modelling gods sent your way. All the scenic work is coming along nicely. The Dapol teaks are lovely coaches. Dapol's light bar system makes putting lights in very easy ( just lift off the roof and plug it in) and of course the coaches are engineered to pick up from the track. It's much harder on Farish stock which requires quite a bit of adaptation and in my experience Farish coaches are not intended to be opened. I did look into doing it and the conclusion from various forums was that it can be done but it will add drag to the coaches because you have to fit pick ups that press on the wheels. You don't need to change the CV to stop your Standard 5. You can stop it exactly where you want because the F2 brake function is a dynamic brake. When you press it, it acts like a brake on a car. So you can use that pressing it on and off and stop the loco very accurately as a result. All Farish sound locos have that function (they use Zimo chips which have it as standard). The Standard 5MT is a lovely loco. You will have a lot of fun with it. Good luck for the Op next week and I hope your recovery is as swift and painless as possible. Stephen

Thank you for that tip Stephen - I immediately went and tried that out and of course it works and what a div I feel for not reading that in the instructions. Hopefully I will be investigating the light bar more to see what I can do (or not). I wil have plenty of time to do some research later next week!

Good afternoon Steve! You packed a lot into this video mate! Well said, this is a great hobby, and you do it your way! Don't pay attention to any of the negative nonsense unless its constructive or useful, at least that's how I approach those types of comments! If they come back for more they get blocked and can argue with themselves in their own private echo chamber! Lol! Glad you got to the bottom of the derailing loco, and sorted the track work out to prevent it from happening again! I agree, the Farish 5MT is a magnificent loco! Before you go playing with CV values though, have you figured out how to use the active brake function? You press F2 to latch it on, then the speed control will bring the loco to a halt much more quickly! Just don't forget to press F2 again, to unlatch it, otherwise you'll find your loco won't move when you try to pull away again! It's a great feature! Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing what you build while in recuperation! All the best, Ian.

    • @lynganddistrict
      @lynganddistrict  Před 3 měsíci +1

Hi Ian - yes after Stephen told me about the F2 function I have been playing around with it and it is a great addition! This one only works when your decelerating and doesn't latch on so its all good. That de railing loco is still giving me issues in that it randomly just stops, despite me cleaning the pick ups, (as well as the tracks). No matter which track line I place it on it does the same so I think a bit of TLC is needed on it. i've printed and prepared several scalescenes models ready for when I can't move about too much and am busy getting house jobs done before Thursday. I will be doing a lot of video watching I think!
      Regards
      Steve
