KVW's OVERDUE REVIEW! SEIKO SRPK17 4R36-13S0 SPORT DIVER REISSUE

  • This time it's a new watch, so that's fun. I got one of the new Limited Edition (15,555 units) recreations of Seiko's first 70m sport diver, the Suwa 6119- The good, the bad, the ugly (if any) as I see it. Comparisons between an original and this new one. Dial, hands, casework, lume, hand profiles. Also I clean a rust-damaged 70m sweep, so you get to see my lume cleaning in progress. A lot of looking over the bracelet in terms of fit and flex, finishing, and fidelity. I find the closest originals I can find, and we do a side-by-side.
    I do have a numbers-only video up as well.
    PSA: This video contains sub-optimal levels of editing, usually none. We have zero script, no planning, basic editing, etc. Same for the sound - if you can hear anything count that as a win. Even if that "anything" is tuneless humming. I did pump up the volume though. YMMV if you choose to blow part of your life on this. No Refunds. Enjoy!

      @AMN342 boo quality difference, just the dial showing made in Japan, very difficult to get a jdm version, from memory 1500 jdm units? easier to get the global version

    I wish I had bought one of these but I had just purchased a Seiko SPB121 Alpinist as the watch I wore for our wedding and I couldn't afford it. I'd love to see this come out as a regular release and have a blue-dial version, I loved that blue-dial original you had.

    I have minimal complaints about this release. Especially when you consider the pricing of this watch. The movement is quite accurate. I've been impressed. It bodes well. I think we'll see a Pogue next year. Feels like Seiko are building up to it. If Seiko play their cards right it would be THE release of 2024. Could it possibly be that Seiko are finally listening to the community?

    I’ve been looking forward to Spencers take on this one.
    Interesting some international versions seem to be missing the “MADE IN JAPAN” printed between 6 and 7, but not this one.
    I really like it, and was stoked to be able to get a low number kanji version.
    My 4R’s are more accurate than any 6R I have checked, this one is no different at +3.
    For a newer enthusiast, it is a nice way to get some Seiko nostalgia with modern upgrades.

      The K1s are not made in Japan

    • @Dadication3
      @Dadication3 Před 6 měsíci

      @@nunchaks700 yes, I agree, mine does not have the K1 designation anywhere on any of the box or paperwork, is not a Kanji but is a below 1500 limited number and does have the Made In Japan printing between the 6 and 7 on the dial, like the JDM version, and it was from an American AD, so there are a bunch of low limited edition numbers, non kanji versions out there with the printing on the dial and caseback. According to my AD, these are fact Made In Japan.

    Seiko may consider the rounded edges as a more refined case shape. The shape lines *may* have been a cost-cutting measure originally but became part of the charm and the aesthetic after the fact.
    This is a home run.

    I was looking forward to the Regatta timer reissue until I saw that it's just a Regatta timer dial inside the clunky 5KX case. I'd much rather see it in its original style case like they did with this SRPK17.

      Yeah, isn't that weird? Reminds me of when Seiko reissued a "pogue" that wasn't a chronograph and also had an open heart dial that showed the balance. Very weird choices.

    Hey Spencer. Do you know why Seiko seemingly randomly used Stellux to make bracelets and didn't do it in-house? It seems as if these were the only things they didn't make themselves which is very odd to me. Btw this is an awesome reissue! Cant wait to see if they do a 6119 rally or other cool models from '68-'69

    What’s the reserve duration when you do not wear the watch..? 24 hours, 48..?
    I put the vintage strap on my version and now people notice the watch and strap even more.
    What a difference it makes!

    • @SpencerKleinVintageWatch
      @SpencerKleinVintageWatch  Před 8 měsíci

      Overall it's great but I'm not wearing mine because the chapter ring is too big / tall, and the crystal isn't right in terms of the cross-section. They're supposed to have a double-dome; the originals did. This crystal is single domed - the bottom is flat which distorts how the dial should look. I've tried a few ways to correct it enough so that I'd stop noticing it, but haven't succeeded.

    Does it handwind? The crown seems a little small for it to do that.

    • @SpencerKleinVintageWatch
      @SpencerKleinVintageWatch  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Same thing as the old 830x / 834x models from the mid-1960s - fantastic movements that include hand-winding, but you'd never know because the crowns are tiny.

But when i put my cheapest Swiss watch Omega Seamaster 007 on my arm i yust seen what is the real good watch andnits not that expensive its 3,500€ but you see the diferent Seiko is like toy when you compare to Omega ,and my Seiko is in box now and i put it pn sail.

    The case is disappointing. I have a few originals, one of them has an untouched case and in very, very good condition. I saw this reissue and the difference is striking. How on earth they were able to do such sharp finishes then and now with all the new technologies and progress they can’t ?

    • @SpencerKleinVintageWatch
      @SpencerKleinVintageWatch  Před 9 měsíci

      My theory is that to hit the low price point they skimped on the casework, which is really unlike Seiko in my experience.

    • @d3xmeister
      @d3xmeister Před 9 měsíci

      @@SpencerKleinVintageWatch Probably, but when you see Aliexpress brands making better finished cases at such low prices, one has to wonder. Seiko used to do it, even on their cheap watches.
