- In this video, we'll take a look at the Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Special Limited Edition SRPK17, which is based off the FIRST Seiko 5 Sports 6106-8120 from 1968. I'll also be comparing it with the 6106-8120's bezeless little brother, the 6119-8310.

Got mine one (1) too last week, numbered 14462. Your vintage 1962 looks cool. By the way, another iconic watch Seagull 1963 having their 60th. anniversary too launching 750 units limited edition last week. I'd just ordered 1 yesterday (10/7), awaits the arrival..

I have an original 1968 6119-8020 with the 'a' movement and original bracelet. This reissue is probably one of the best ones that's been done. Keeping all the original design elements and adding just enough to keep it relevant. New movement is definitely cool for me too.
Yeah the lack of quick set day on the 6119 is a bit of a hassle if you don't wear it every day haha
@@NorthernWatchClubtotally, I think those were made to be set and then worn daily. Back then people did not have a watch for each day. Just got a good one and wore it daily. Setting it is a once off thing and a proper pain.

I would keep both. The modern reissue and the vintage one give a sense of the history.

Just got mine. I pre ordered and when I picked it up the shop manager said the company had sold out in a couple of days. I checked online and sure enough all official UK outlets are out of stock.

Help needed! I would love to buy this fantastic watch to go kitesurfing! But I am finding conflicting information whether the 10ATM rating is has would be enough for that!
Most sources say it should be, but at the extreme you can have some very hard water impacts from several meters height when kitesurfing, similar to high board diving. Certainly enough to kill 5ATM watches. Does anybody have any experience with high impact water sports and 10ATM watches like this and knows how much of a risk there would be of this watch not making it??
Not sure because the impact effectively increases the pressure temporarily to I don't know what levels, maybe a dive watch is better for you?

Anyone find it to be a tad too heavy? I tried one on at the store and that was my first impressions. Unsure if its heavy due to the watchhead or the bracelet itself
I didn't notice it being heavier than the DressKX I had, maybe it has to do with the bracelet design?

I bought this one and realized it's not made in Japan! They say it's made in Hong Kong on the box
Yeah I think only the JDM models are made in japan
Absolutely no question this watch is a keeper…..yes 15,555 sounds like a lot but it isn’t. Especially when you consider how many places in the world carry Seiko. Just US and Japan is about 10,000 retailers so that put things into perspective. What you are missing is how well it looks on wrist once it’s size. Totally dig it.

It even looks great with leather strap. It’s a special watch coz it’s rare Seiko makes a true recreation.

Yeah you'd have to look shop at local ADs but they all seems to be sold out. I got mine from my AD, he told me he ordered 3 but only got 1 so supply seems to be pretty limited.

I just happened to stop by the mall and decided to go have a look at one of the Seiko dealers and they had one that came in earlier this week. So I bought it right away. I really love the dial and the body but I'm not a fan of the bracelet. It looks kind of cheap and doesn't feel secure. I'll probably put something a little sportier on it that gives it a vintage yet modern diver watch style, like a StrapsCo Silicone Rubber Rally Strap. Anyways, thanks for posting this review for this watch and for your offer. :)
@@thebestoffools I'm glad you found it! One of my viewers tells me it looks good on a mesh band and I saw another CZcamsr wearing it on a strapcode straight end bracelets so maybe I'll get one of those later. Just enjoying the stock bracelet for now, lemme know what you get for it bro!
You should patent that tune. Not sure why I haven't seen a watch dance.. I guess it's official now, you've given up on life and have chosen to blow your entire life savings of more watches than you can wear. That '69 seiko is amazing. Keep it and sell those fake-kx's, wait a while and then double your money with that re-issue.

SRPK17 is a very pretty watch. But that crown is way too small. The bracelet has wearing issues. The friction only bezel feels really great but I worry about how fixed in place it will be when being used. And it appears a lot smaller than the 39.5mm measurement because of the non-lugs and smaller dial. I had one for about 3 hours. I opened it up and looked at it. Took a photo and sold it at cost. It's too much money for what it is. The package is well put together, but in the end it feels like the watch is about 40% more expensive than it should be. For me it was an impulse buy and I was seriously underwhelmed when I opened the box. I was excited about it arriving, but the hype didn't live up to the experience. YMMV. It's not a bad watch, but in the end it didn't feel special. Killed by the hype.

@@NorthernWatchClub I watched your other video too. I liked it. I don't want to dump on a watch others seem to be loving. It is a great watch. It is nicely made and I would love to see Seiko go down this road some more, but I do wish the crown was more functional, and the bracelet? I'm hard pressed to think of any watch I own that's still on the original strap unless it's integrated like my Direnzo, or a G-shock, so my criticism of the strap here is a fairly universal one. It's probably not that bad. I'm sure you'll like yours for years to come. Price creep is real though. This watch, nice packaging aside (it'll look great in the top back corner of your closet for the rest your life) (plus, it's a red box wrapped in a clear plastic cover, definitely an upgrade from the normal Seiko packaging, but still decidedly less refined than so many others at this price point) is still more expensive than it should be. But it appears to be sold out so maybe they should have charged more. Nice watch. Not for me, but most things aren't. I hope you enjoy it.

What part of 1968 reissue did you not get?
@@jonasthemovie The part where they maintain the spirit of the original but machine the bracelet in a way that you don't have to manhandle it into a shape that almost matches the shape of your wrist, and a crown that is conducive to hand winding, and if you're going to charge this much for a watch, put some sapphire in it since it will give you modern durability and clarity without affecting the aesthetic of the watch. Nostalgia is a powerful drug. You can mine nostalgia to get unit movement, but if you don't learn from your mistakes you're simply running a money grab. This is a great 1968 watch. It's an overpriced, nostalgia mining, gimmick packed 2023 watch. Hey, I'm the sucker. I prepaid for an advanced order. It lived up to the aesthetic promises, but otherwise was a an unrewarding experience. If all I cared about was how it looked I'd probably still have it. MSRP was too much to pay for a watch with a mediocre band, plastic crystal, and frustrating operational interfaces, no matter how good it looked or how close it was to the original.

@@pokie6087 a lot of shops will advertise the watch but mark it as 'out of stock' until they receive delivery. A case in point is the Snoopy Seiko limited edition, with a run of 5K, which is a 1/3 of this one, and the Snoopy watch is readily available in the UK

The watch was released in the UK days ago. Every single AD showing the watch as in stock is then, is now showing out of stock. Believe me I checked all of them deciding weather or not to wait for a discount. I'm glad I didn't. The AD I bought mine from sold all the one's they ordered in two days

Here in Canada I got quoted 100-200 CAD for a service, still less expensive than a new watch but I get what you mean. I am leaning more and more towards keeping the new watch, I'll probably shoot a proper review of it soon, stay tuned!
