    Brian, thank for this video man! I got mine two weeks ago and I’ve kept it on the table half finished because the manual is horrible!! THANK YOU for the detail and going over the build. As far as the prop, you helped me so much! I had no idea with the bad instructions and extra screws, but’s, etc. - I think you may be a tad bit off with the way you put the prop together though! If you look closely, the washers are different widths. What I did on mine was: 1. Thin Nut, then THIN washer. (This keeps the gap smaller) - then Prop. 2. Then thicker washer, then that one-off/weird nut, followed by one of the remaining 3 normal nuts. Thanks again man

      I will take your word for it :) We tried three configurations, if I recall, before getting it to even fit reasonably.
      Chinese directions are bad, like usual....you wouldn't believe how horrible the directions are on our new 54" drum mower...video series soon to be released, FYI...but needless to say, it was a multi-hour endeavor, with 2 steps in the manual...
      Step 1) Unpack the pieces (then it shows the pieces on a crappy picture)
      Step 2) Assemble the pieces and then install the skirt.
      YEP, that's it...and this thing could EASILY kill you!!! Incredible, right?!??!?!

      Yeah, we still enjoy each other, but the kids were definitely not "out"....they were in the basement playing. We typically have them play downstairs while we're filming, but our new house isn't quite as good at blocking the "basement" noises ;) When we finish the basement we'll have to put lots of insulation in the ceiling to keep the noise down - but that's not going to happen for a while.

    I bought the RTF version on Ebay last week for $119. It does seem a bit underpowered on 2S but otherwise flies well. You are right, you do have to fly it. I'm very new to RC and did 4 flights today with zero crashes. The stabilization system works great and I was actually able to fly it in "expert" mode for a bit without freaking out. All in all I'm pleased with this airplane.

    Hi from Germany! Thanks for uploading all your videos! Very entertaining and some useful information!I have bought the rtf Version and received it very quick from Czech Republik. First impression was nice, but a closer look showed some quality issues: Lower foam hing of the rudder was cracked, as I could see in buyers comments on banggood. Not nice, but no problem, as the rear wheel mount holds everything in place. As I am a belly lander, I have cut of the rear wheel (plane looks much nicer!) and i dont use the landing gear, which cracks often enough. A bigger downside was, that the right aileron was bent on the inner side, close, where the linkage is mounted. the foam also was very soft. I suppose, that the chinese wanted to break free the linkage of the aileron, which was blocked by excess glue. So they have damaged the aileron. I could fix that by bending the foam back and harden the surface by adding CA glue. On the maiden flight, i noticed, that plane was turning right. Back home, I inspected the linkage of the aileron and had to correct it . On the second flight, I immediately crashed after launching, as by mistake, I have reversed aileron action. Supposingly I have held the aileron stick too long on one side during pre flight surface control. I didnt notice the aileron was reverse and the gyro automatically added aileron to the wrong side. Result was broken prop, spinner and the fuselage nose a bit compressed. then i used the spare prop and the drag to the right side was still there. again i took off the wing and noticed, that the receiver board was not level on the adhesive pad. So i suppose, that this was , why the gyro made auto corrections, that resulted in the slight right turns. I have put the receiver in place, but as i am waiting for 2 blade props and nylon spinners, i didnt have other flights.I have noticed, that the Volantex Mustang is identical with the Ares Mustang, that you have reviewed years ago. Replacement Props and Spinners are available , as well as the plastic cowling for a small price. Volantex doesnt provide anything, except the 4 blades . So in comparison to my eachine mini Mustang and the Mini Corsair, I am quite disppointed by the quality of the Volantex Mustang

    Ha Ha my natural instinct is to cram and ram my worry is that the servo wires will foul the actual servos. In the end I chose an MX3 evo gyro married to a Flysky receiver with foreshortened servo wires, we will see if I am successful - will let you know as I am breaking new ground with this. I thank you for always responding to me, you and your camera crew are really nice people.

      Thanks Brian, and we do wish you luck! REMEMBER, this plane likes to fly pretty fast, so don't try to slow down when landing, just fly her into the ground and then chop the throttle...I know, easier said than done, but if you can pull this off, you'll enjoy this plane (and it's crappy landing gear attachment points) for many flights ;)

    Really like the idea of showing the planes fly first.........then the unboxing and assembly. It really grabs your attention right from the start. Any chance your wife might fly some planes? So many women today are getting into RC flying and real aircraft........as a flight instructor for over 40 years, women can fly the hell out of airplanes. In fact they make better students (always prepared)! Enjoying your postings. Regards, Jimp

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 3 lety

      We've been doing that for a while now, flight first, and I think it's good for audience retention. When someone wants to see the whole thing, they can just sit back and watch, but I know that some like the "surprise"....but that's kinda bogus anyway, since you'd have to be clicking on the thumbnail to choose to watch it...unless you get notifications, and blindly watch, like a good subscriber would do - LOL ;)
      As for Megan flying...she's just not interested. I try to strong arm her into it on the "easiest" to fly, but she can't drive an RC car around the room, so it's just not her thing. She does, however, make a great "camera crew", and has so much better than either of us expected! She also deals with the huge fluctuations in our family schedules. This is the hardest part to show in the videos, since we don't want the videos to "show" this part of the sacrifices of making all these videos. She and I have to get the house ready to film. Many times, she'll have to rush to clean up so that when I get home from a 10+ hours work day, we can film. The kids go down in our basement, where they admittedly, don't have it too bad, but the mess befalls us when we enter the dungeon...again, "Camera Crew" feels the brunt of this effort. The 4 kids are accustom to starting their day late, and ending it late too. This is normal for us, but most people think we're nuts (which we are)...but when you want to make something happen, you have to just do it...which is what I'm good at, and Megan helps to facilitate this. When we decided for her to stay at home with the kids (she had been a teacher by trade) that was part of our trade off. She'll help me to achieve my dreams, and I'll help her reach hers. We make a good team, but without her help, I don't know how I could do it!

      Sure, you could put a DSMX Rx, like a Lemon-Rx or a Redcon DSMX (links to both in Description)...
      You'd have to maybe take the CASE off either pick, so they fit into that spot on the top of the wing, that goes into the fuse...it's a tight spot when it gets closed in!!!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 4 lety +2

      I have a playlist link that shows all sorts of plane. I worked with my buddy Esteban, to add flaps to his (SUPER SIMILAR) plane, but different Transmitter and Receiver. You might want to check it out. P.S. I make playlists, so whenever I do a mod, that might be helpful to others, I have all the videos for a particular plane there.
      As for using that channel, grab a servo and plug it into that channel. You will see it move when you flip that switch. Make sure the pins are lined up correctly...
      Darkest is GND / Red is DCV+ / Lightest is Siginal
      Black / Red / White (Futaba)
      Brown / Red / Yellow (Hextronics)
      Once you get this part done, you can play with where to put the servo. Then the fun part...making small flaps, then a linkage to make the flaps attach to the servo linkage.
      I have a bunch of flaps mod videos. I think you'd enjoy watching them. I've literally spend hundreds (if not thousands) of hours on this stuff, so you can learn what you need from almost any mod series.
      Let me know when you have more questions, and I'll try to help.

      Brian Phillips I really appreciate your feedback and checked out a few of your videos of mods for flaps. I noticed that most videos the ailerons are usually further out toward the wing tips, giving you a larger or wider area to utilize for your flaps. Would I need to extend the ailerons on this plane or would the inner part of the wing have enough surface area for effective flaps? Again really love your channel and all your support!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 4 lety +1

      Inboard flaps don't need to be HUGE, but HUGE is more fun ;) To answer your question, no, just leave the ailerons where and how they are, and play with the small space you have on this plane. When you see the impact, you will be amazed!!!

It would cut out if i went above half way up on the throttle stick although it felt like full power was half way up. I think this is a calibration problem or something. • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 4 lety

      Sounds like you have a bat battery possibly. Some of these planes have LVC Low Voltage Cutoff...but you might be right about calibrating the ESC.
      Typically, to calibrate an ESC, you would power up as usual, but you'll have the throttle stick at 100% (something you normally wouldn't do), then when the ESC starts beeping, you'd return the throttle stick to 0%. This would normally calibrate the ESC Throttle Range, but not sure if it will work on this RTF.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 4 lety

      To be totally honest, it's not super easy to land this plane for a variety of factors. First, it needs to fly pretty quick, or she'll stall nose down into the ground, soooo, you kinda have to hope for a stiff breeze down the runway OR "fly her into the ground" - kinda sounds obvious, but many times you're looking to stall the plane into a landing, but with the somewhat touchy elevator controls, you have to basically fly the plane on the runway, then chop the throttle. If you're not feeling it, just put her in the grass and salvage the plane.
      We had this same issue with another 750mm P-51 that Esteban had. We always had to GREEEEEEESE the landings, or face retribution from ripped off landing gear. The four bladed prop is also tough, with the propensity to nose over...then you're looking at dragging or breaking off one or two of the blades.
      I want to say there's some magic bullet, but there just isn't. I've flown a lot of P-51's, but this particular size has always kinda had this issue. Funny thing, the HH UMX P-51 I can easily fly it along the road on the mains :)
      Also, if you want it to be easier to land, use the AUXILIARY port and install flaps. You can make a very simple inboard "split flap" that can even be CLEAR, made out of a plastic pop bottle or similar. Just use some tape for a hinge, and one smaller 9 gram or less servo to actuate them. This will allow slower landings. Keep in mind, there will NOT be any elevator correction with flap deployment on this RTF transmitter, so you will need to ride the elevator to keep the nose up when flying her with flaps down.
      Hope this helps SOME.... Good luck Jared!

      I think this plane would be an okay first plane, but it's not the most easy to land. The smaller P-51 is cheaper, and way more forgiving in the event of an imperfect landing...but with your drone experience, you'd be fine with either.
      Keep in mind, flying fixed wing is super close to flying drones, only you can't stop!!! ;) My take of the transition, would be to just get what you like, but plan on destroying it (and you will...just like very other fixed wing RC pilot before you - including me). The flying is NOTHING like flying a drone, a drone if you get in trouble, it just hover at the spot you let go(gps drone), a drone left stick while control motor speed(same as rc), but increase motor on drone will only raise or lower the drone, on a plane it will make the plane go faster! on a typical rc. the right stick up/down make the place go up and down while on a drone mode2(most standard config) move right stick up and down make the drone go forward and back! so the muscle memory is not the same!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 3 lety +1

      There isn't a simple way to fix it, other than changing the control horn setting on the ailerons...if it's shaking, then you can reduce the mechanical output and move the controls closer into the wing, at the Ailerons. Other than that, you're pretty much at the mercy of the stabilizer.

      Not this one, but you might be able to fly the MINI. This particular P-51 has gotta be the worst P-51 I've flown. I hate to have to keep saying this, but this P-51 is just OKAY...it's not BAD, but it's JUST Okay. It's hard to fly (land) when compared to most other P-51's I have, or have flow, and I've had quite a few, being the P-51 is very popular.

It will not return to neutral on it's own, both in beginner and intermediate modes. In Expert mode it will, but for whatever reason the servo throws are much less than on the other two modes. The batteries they come with are okay (really for both planes). Gotta be careful with the A800, as the prop will spin and cause loads of drag when you're trying to glide...which acts like a break. If I try to hand launch it...same thing. Plummets to the ground nose dive. Seems like the cg is way off. I have the battery mounted same as you right in the slot. Thoughts? I already destroyed 2 props from it nose diving while take off and the prop cover is destroyed too. Iam pretty disappointed and frustrated at this point. Thanks Brian. So I have noticed some issues with mine.
      1.) Tried repositioning the landing gear to move Cg a bit further back. I can't move the battery. It as you know only has the one spot for it to go.
      2.) My flaps are not centering back to full level when testing initial startup. No matter what they have about a 5 degree up/down at center. I tried quickly turning the threaded rods. Could it be more an issue with the servo/esc/gyro center calibration position? Tried resetting gyro and turning on and off receiver several times...still aligns up where flaps ailerons are slightly up/down at center stick. Yours doesn't seem to be that way? I also noticed last night while charging the battery on my balance charger that it was heating up and started to swell?! Not good from my understanding of charging lipo batteries. So far EXHobby (whom I purchased from) has been communicating with me but there replies have been less than satisfactory. They are telling me I need to find a smooth paved or wood upward hill to take off from. They also are not taking any accountability towards sending me a new prop or safety nose cone from the damage sustained by this plane chewing up payment right from the first attempt at takeoff. They haven't addressed the battery issue yet either. So far, Iam not very impressed by this company or the possible lemon of a jet they sent me. Wished mine worked as well as yours. I had really high hopes man. Any pointers kindly appreciated. I know it only cost $150 which is cheap compared to other jets but not even getting it to take flight is just frustrating.

    I just got this plane as my first 4-channel, but I'm struggling a little with the assembly. The instructions are pretty bad on the detail front! The elevator pushrod is far too long for the clevis to clip into the elevator horn. I can't adjust the clevis position to fix this, because even at its minimum position, it's situated beyond the horn. Also, the pushrod itself would be in the way of the clevis pin and prevent it from clipping onto the horn. Basically, the rudder and elevator pushrods are the exact same length. Do I need to cut the elevator pushrod (or put a kink in it)?
