    Whew, I'm a fanatic about arresting descent in a flare before touchdown with the nosewheel well off the ground. Probably most pilots on CZcams don't bother but just simply fly the aircraft on to the runway without a flare or arresting decent. This is called a 'tactical' landing by pilots flying the C-130 or C-17. Its either laziness to fine-tune a landing or a bad case of get-there-itis on the part of commercial pilots. When I announced my intention to perform a flare to an Air Canada instructor in the A320 CAE sim, he said why, and don't forget you are already flying final nose-high! In this video your landing was absolutely perfect!

    Nicely done!
    For landings on low-grip runways, I guess more reverse thrust is used to reduce skid risk. How does the auto braking system work in those situations? Does it, for example, defer to RT until the aircraft has slowed below a set ground speed?
    Also, that would have been an impressive outside clip - the RT dusting the top-coat of snow, even if only a little bit!

      Setting 1,2 & 3 gives you or a preset G rate of deceleration (surface condition permitting). Max setting gives you max possible braking without locking the wheels. Reverse thrust helps to achieve that on slippery runways. It is most effective in higher speeds :)

      There's no need to calculate V/S, you just keep scrolling it until you get the trajectory you want. There's an arc on the ND that shows you where you'll be by the time you hit your selected altitude so you can just watch that move.

      I don’t know this approach but I would *guess* there’s undulating terrain that caused the Radio Altimeter to read a 2,500 radio altitude twice.

      Radio altimeter, the ground may fluctuate in size. So 2500' at one place then higher terrain shortly ahead. Then lower terrian thereafter.

      @@Barnaby_bo It depends. Some functions, like autoland, use radio altimeter inputs for thrust reduction and flare (a malfunctioning radio altimeter contributed to the crash of Turkish 1951). The callouts are generally based on the radio altimeter as well, however for the 1000 ft callout there is an option to have it based on the barometric altimeter.

      @@chrippaaa No its a check Im not sitting here dont knowing my stuff. I fly the NG and Max. Even if you have the runway in sight in a CAVOK day you respond to it! It also makes the Pilot monitoring to know that you still are awake and not dead or passed out or even just task saturated.

      @@123fockewolf I also fly the NG and Max. In our SOP there is no need to say checked at minimums if you have already called contact. Your SOP may differ but this video is about Flyr and they have the exact same sop as my company 🙂

      @@chrippaaa Yes you are right about SOP differs sir. but a minimums call is a decision call it is not only if you are in IMC. The response would be go around or contunie. as a captain If you dont hear anything I be worried. Minimums are decision altitudes. I have done CAT 3 landings where the runways was visual all the way to exactly minimus at 50feet we lost the runway. I looked out and said go around otherwise the PM would think Im still trying to land. If the procedure is to be quite if it is visual that could be improved by just some response of intention and a incapacitation check! 👍🏼
