    I agree, you are a legend! Many thanks for this superb masterclass. My carpets are dry but the grommet recess was clogged with muck and the grommet looks a bit old. I'm going to fit leaf catcher mesh under the bonnet hinge cavities on both sides as the driver's side drain was blocked. BMW price today was £20.23p for the grommet. I've drilled several holes along the bottom edge of that plastic shield before re-fitting it.

    Good video, very useful. I left the grommet in place, cleared all the debris but permanently removed the plate covering it as it promotes water collection especially if the drain pipe blocks again. The water now runs off without issue to the bottom trays where it leaks onto the floor. This is an example of over engineering by BMW which will cause blockage abd leakage.

    • @Toob41
      @Toob41 Před rokem

      @@giggity4670 The cover is made of plastic and doesn't do much except cause this clogging problem. If you can't get the bolt out just cut the cover round the bolt head with a Dremel or Stanley knife and tear the cover off. The other 3 bolts will hold it on. There's another video where the guy replaced the cover from inside the car by pulling it through into the car and feeding the new cover back through the hole but it's harder to clear the dirt out of the cavity.

      @@23solad A quick update that I put in the new grommet this morning - not much fun in the cold but as it's due to rain for the next few days it felt important to sort it out. Followed your approach and only had a struggle with removing the old grommet - it was clearly perished around the edges and the foam behind it was also damp so I am very much hoping it is the root cause of my problem. I couldn't see the white plastic pipe you mentioned, but maybe as I have an F11 it isn't there?? All back together now, I just have to keep working to dry out the rear carpet!!

Dont worry about the white plastic pipe, even though I poked it, it wasnt blocked at all. It was simply a nice to do.

    What i dont get is all this could of been avoided if BMW just weld a piece of metal to cover it up when it was in factory as a plastic Gromit is always going to give out sooner or later might even be a good tactic they know will be a problem so people bring it in for repair it is just a money maker so people have to buy the part got to love BMW allways after your wallet.

    After seeing this tutorial I ended up buying the part/cap myself and asked a local garage to replace it with glue. Few weeks later I've realised the garage didn't do the job correctly as I can see the water leak issue again. Asked the garage if they used the glue and interestingly they can't remember 😭 Going to a different garage tomorrow who seems to be more reliable and they'll strip the front carpet off in order to make sure the job is done correctly. It appears that the Glue is very important to fix the issue.

    • @23solad
      @23solad  Před 2 lety +1

      Hasn the "glue" is important as It acts as a sealant and barrier.
      Its like installing in a new bath and not applying silicone sealant as a barrier.
      Once you remove the original yellow grommet, u break the BMW seal, hence you need to create a new seal for the new grommet.
      This is the main reason its a bit difficult to remove the old seal
