    the problem is the firewall cover @ soundproof at the engine bay side has improper drainage which retain water @ easily clogged with dust and dead leafs and the main cause the yellow steering rack hole cover to deteriorate over time
    .
    its the main rainwater channel from the windscreen and it goes to inbetween the plastic firewall cover @ soundproof and the yellow cover
    .
    what i do is i drill the plastic firewall cover (more hole better drainage, make lots of large size hole) to assists rainwater coming out from that closed chamber.
    .
    and also silicon seal around the yellow grommet as extra water proofing (if the grommet condition is still good, if its already crack, brittle, its better to change new grommet)

      Problem is really in bonnet hinge recess as that's the way leafs getting inn and eventually blocking drainage that is placed in very tight spot under controll box for ventilation.

    Great video thank you. Can you please do a follow up video to show how to lift the rear carpets

    • @gumis56tfcx

      I haven't lift carpet in the back. I've got carpet vacum that can take water. All I did for next 4 days was taking water out once a day. There is carpet plastic attachment in flor. If you twist it it will come out. I've used thin suction end to take water out and last wast to dry it with some heater blower and run wit AC on (it's always on anyway)

      @3skins651 Před 2 lety

      If you lift the carpets front and back you'll find about half a gallon of water underneath sitting on the floor pan. The foam carpet backing is foam/sponge and needs squeezing out. If you remove round carpet gripper and press down water will come up through the hole. Thanks for the vid

    Hi
    where are you based please. My 520D has the same issue started recently. Can you suggest how much roughly it will cost to get it fixed pls.

    I have the same issue in 520D, can not understand how did you reach to yellow cover from the engine side

    • @gumis56tfcx
      @gumis56tfcx  Před 4 lety +1

      From the engine side there is little hatch (panel) held by x3 screws. You may not see it well but surely you can feel screws with torx head. Yellow grommet is behind.

    Have the exact same issue inspected the vapour barrier behind the door frame looked all good. Had heavy rain sat in the car and realised the passenger side is wet as well! It seems like the water travels back when it enters. So the only cause has to be this. Can I ask did you replace the yellow cover or put silicon on it? If so you would have to lift the carpet from the passenger seat anyways?

    • @gumis56tfcx
      @gumis56tfcx  Před 4 lety +2

      No. I just took rhe panel off ond cleaned grommet and and surround very well then just silicone from the outside. Also cleaned all channels so water can get out. So far so good.

    Hi there, just bought an F10 and discovered this problem after a few days of rain. Can I ask a question? I see everybody talking about replacing the yellow grommet but isn't the real problem the blocked drain hole ? If you clear the drain hole will it prevent water building up against the grommet in the first place? Many thanks for your help

    • @gumis56tfcx
      @gumis56tfcx  Před 2 lety +1

      Of course you need to clean drain hole otherwise replacing grommet won't help for too long. That's the main reason why grommet failed in first place. It's not easy to clean it but doable.

      @@gumis56tfcx great thank you, I was thinking perhaps some cable or wire to feed through the hole? Do you think if I just do this first and keep on top grommet will be fine to leave in place? Thanks for your advice!!

    • @gumis56tfcx
      @gumis56tfcx  Před 2 lety +1

      I have took panel off and flushed it all out (loads of leafs) and then, as you suggested, pushed all remains with some wire and flushed it.

    Anyone know how to take the carpet out to fix it from inside easy access

    • @gumis56tfcx
      @gumis56tfcx  Před 4 lety

      I'm not sure about f31. Just heard that 3 series got same problem. Just llok for grommet first under bonnet. F10/11 got another panel that acts as fire wall that is simply screwed in. Otherwise can't help much. All I did to tske water out is use vacum to take water out ( vacum that can suck watter)

      I've used vacume that is designed to wet clean carpets sonit can suck water. I've also found that if you take plastick carpet holders off it will suck it right from the bottom.

      @@sleepingsupplement8748 Ive suck around 3l in total from carpets in x3 days span. Every day less and less.i didn't took all carpets out just mats that you can take out in order to clean ylur car. This are held in place by plastick grips that if you twist one way or the other will get lose and you can pull them up. Then whole you get reach to the bottom of carpet/body that will let you extract more water out. Rest was the domestic heater and AC that is always on in mine. Carpets are bone dry now in mine.
