- Trek Untold is celebrating their 50th episode and nearly a full year of shows, a big milestone for this podcast! What better way to celebrate this first anniversary than by talking with another Number One.
This week, Jonathan Frakes joins the show to tell some stories about playing William Riker in all seven seasons of “Star Trek: The Next Generation”, as well as the four TNG movies, and appearances in “Star Trek: Picard” and “Lower Decks.” Frakes also directed many episodes of Trek shows and two of the movies, along with a huge list of other television shows.
Frakes tells some stories about specific TNG episodes like “The Outcast”, “Sub Rosa” and “The Offspring” (his directorial debut), tales about his action figures, and the secret origins behind a major part of Riker’s character. Plus, his philosophies on directing, working with Patrick Stewart in “Picard”, his on-screen relationship with Marina Sirtis, and which “Star Trek: Discovery” performer has been shadowing Frakes and will sit in the director’s chair in future episodes of the franchise. All this and more on the big 50th episode of Trek Untold!

It's always a blast watching Jonathan Frakes in interviews, every bit as much as I love his work, acting AND directing!
Frame Of Mind was the episode where Riker loses his mind. One of my favorite episodes
Frakes was also on DS9 as his teleporter accident clone.
Robert Picardo's the Doctor is my all-time favorite character in Trek. But Number 1 is in the pantheon.
Matthew, congrats on 1 yr anniversary of this podcast project of yours. Love your Aunt Krisy. (He is my older Sister Barbara's son, & he has done a lot more with interviews, He did a documentary on my Late Uncle & his Great Hank's Artwork, in "Nothing Changes, Art for Hank's Sake"). I realized that am 14 months younger than Jonathan, he was born 8/19/52. mine is 10/19.
Thank you so much for this, Jonathan Frakes was and still is my favourite actor in the Star Trek universe. A talented, humble, funny man, what a treat to see this!
fascinating!
Wow! This one was really enjoyable. Thanks for such a great interview and I'm happy for you landing every person you have on here. Jonathan definitely seemed comfortable as he said, it showed, and I think you hit it off really well with him. I just subbed and look forward to watching more.
Frakes gets Imzadi... which is a wonderful book. This is completely true to his character. His orientation is Troi. This is more prevalent in 2023 than ever. Love the individual.
Fantastic interview, well done!
Just awesome.... I remember as a kid seeing Jonathan on the 1985 version of The Twilight Zone as well as a few other ST alum. He's such a real person and it def shows. Great job!👍
this is the first video of yours ive found! looks solid so far :D
Really great interview.
I just found you ,joined up
Recent subscriber since you interviewed Will Wheaton (which was really touching). Love this interview with Johnathan Frakes !(who didn't have a crush on "#1"💖?) TNG was my entire teenage Saturday afternoon. Yep VCRs!! (lol!) Your style is a charming blend of raving-fan and thoughtful questions. Well done!🙌🏽
Had no idea that Jonathan Frakes had worked with Nana Visitors father and where William Riker’s walk came from.
You are a great interviewer!
I just understood so many movie scenes... didn't know you had to build credit in the US and always wondered how people could have "no credit" or such terrible credit that they couldn't get a credit card without being completely bankruptand I also finally understand what the numeber they always talk about means 😂 For context: Here (Germany) your credit score is a percentage between 1-99.99% of how trustworthy you are and you start off with 99.99% trustworthyness and if you don't do anything wrong then you always have good credit. Also following up question if anyone sees this? Having to "pay off your credit card each month" sounds like ypu have to actively go and make the payment? Do credit cards not just take the balance of whatever you owe from your account (unless you tell them to pay in installments)?
