      It is less about interest and more that you...didn't have a choice in the matter. Trying to say 'no, I do not wish another loan' would lead to an endless loop until you relented. Thus locking all players into endless debt to a certain Nook

    • @Kameab1213

      @@megaflamer that's actually not that true. Once you get over the initial payment you can make the decision on if you want to take another loan or not. You don't have to. Yes sure your house will be tiny with only one room but you don't have to upgrade. Let's also consider the fact that you could say no and take the game out and not play the game. You decided to take air travel, own an island that you have full control over what it looks like and how it's functioning, and a home on said Island where you facilitate where everyone else also gets to live and all he charges you is for your personal home. It's literally the cheapest option available to someone who traveled across the world in his airplane and owns his Island. All of those other perks he hasn't charged you for. He literally gave you an island for free and air travel to said Island. Pretty generous for someone who signed the paper at the very beginning of the game saying yes I will do all of this and he didn't even charge you for using any of his services except house building. Lol

    My take on the whole 'ugly villagers' thing in NH is that since they removed big aspects of their personalities, the villagers became blank slates, more like objects. So instead of liking characters for their personalities, you have to like them for their looks, hence the huge preference for cute characters rather than likeable ones because, well, they're all so copy-and-pasted that they're all meant to be likeable.

"Teaching about Japanese culture" works best when the audience is expecting to learn something, and when there's an unambiguous explanation. Picking it up through osmosis isn't going to work as well, and education probably wasn't the game designers' priority to begin with.

    I mean, ok. Maybe people would be more willing to deal with "ugly" villagers if they weren't all just copy-pasted personalities. The villagers already have so little to say and are so bland now, that there's no reason to want any villager other than the one of each type you consider the cutest. Like the jock character is gonna say the same thing every time you talk to them, and it really starts to get obnoxious when you have 2 jocks on your island, or 2 sisterly or 2 of anything, because it's basically talking to the same cardboard person twice every day. They might as well be adorable, because they sure as heck are not interesting anymore.

    Everyone acted like the focus on how villagers look was a new thing with the New Horizons community, but that absolutely wasn't the case. The villager trading and selling market on New Leaf was big, and popular villagers were expensive and difficult to acquire. Even moreso than in New Horizons because you had less control over which villagers you got. Even in previous games, people had their preferences.
    And really, the discourse of "picking villagers based on looks is shallow!" is really stupid when you take into account that there are only eight different personality types between hundreds of villagers. The only thing that sets Raymond apart from Olaf or any of the other Smug villagers is appearance. Appearance is all you have to go on.

      @clorofolle Před 2 lety +6

      To be fair, New Leaf *is* the title that started the trend of shallow dialogue and better customisation. NH just took what NL had put on the table to the extremes. I definitely played GC and WW by... kinda roleplaying, feeling part of this little community, growing attached or resentful towards these little animals. There was SO MICH quirky dialogue, they rarely felt really the same. By NL it was much more of an aesthetic, relaxing game and I (and many else) lost interest in actually interacting with characters, and started hunting for prettier ones. It's not a good or a bad thing... It's just, animal crossing has been two pretty separate things. The gameplay and goals of WW are wildly different from those of NH.
      Yeah it would make the game even better to polish it off with better dialogue. But when your main audience rn wants customisation and aesthetics and cuteness, writing in quirky dialogue will take more resources, potentially alienate some of your customers, and not rack in any new profit anyways (people will still buy the game regardless).
      So yeah in NH I think it was simply meant to be like that. People are just reminiscent of other AC games where characters had personalities.

    I used to “work” for an ACNH Treasure Island, and we had a whole scandal where one TI wanted to be the only one, so they started reporting and doxxing other players in order to have their islands shut down. There is a TON of drama surrounding the hacked side of animal crossing, it could probably be a video all on its own

      Nokemon Network is the worst one. The owner A is extremely toxic and classist. He’s a 30 year old bum whos making money off these treasure islands(which is completely illegal lmao) and pressuring children to donate to him. He said in his discord server yesterday that people were being entitled and “pretending to be poor” and “making excuses” to not donate to him. People who do treasure islands really seem like scumbags

      Hacking or a lot of effort, anyway. By the time my town was nearly done I had like 300 hours into the game, and still had sections that weren't complete (No time travelling and all that so it took several months). Not against hacking at all, used to use the codes in the gamecube version all the time, but wanted to enjoy Horizons the "intended way." Its a casual game though, its like being mad at pokemon fans for not nuzlocking every entry they buy (or competitive players for hacking pokemon in. As someone who's done breeding there's a very valid reason why they do and are allowed to do so).
