The world is watching New York City turning into a banana republic. A lot of investors and job creators are watching too. They are wondering about their money, and what a partisan AG and DA will do to their investments if they don’t want to pay to play. I remember a Mexican investor once telling me that he invests in the U.S. because he trusted the judicial system, no matter who was president. My guess is that investors are looking at New York City now and wondering, “Why?”
Believe it or not, but New York City may be arresting an ex-president over a bookkeeping entry. It’s a bad plot but it may happen. The case is weak but there are lots of Trump haters out there who can’t get enough of him, as Eli Lake wrote:

My guess is that Alvin Bragg didn’t think that this “hush money” would be the only one that got a court date in 2024. He probably thought that his case would be an appetizer to the Big Three: Georgia, the documents, and January 6. Unfortunately, Mr. Bragg has picked a legal fight with Republican presidential nominee over “an untested legal theory premised on the testimony of a convicted liar.”

It certainly is not a country that tried to overthrow a leader. You know Trump had 4 years to overthrow that banana republic and did nothing. In fact Trump spent almost his whole life in that banana republic. You accuse the DA and I think the AG of corruption. Why didn't Trump get rid of them? If they were not in their present positions they were in the government. Trump did try and did succeed in dismissing some but the light it cast on him showed his own criminal tendencies. No court case can be brought up without a basis. Yet this case has commenced. You argue that prosecutors have not shown an underlying cause but Cohen's testimony and documents and other witnesses shows that Trump paid the "hush money" because of his fear it would hurt his election chances. It also shows that Trump lied about the value of his properties thus cheating on his tax bill. But this will be up to the jury to decide if the prosecutors met their burden of proof not you or I. Having been a juror and only on a civil case I know the burden that the jurors face. I do not believe that they or any juror wants the guilt of wrongfully convicting any individual no matter what his station is in life.

I fondly remember the Trump years. I'd go to Johnny's Diner for breakfast, and talk with my friends.
