I'm beginning to think the US needs to build a prison just for political and judicial convicts. It would need to be a pretty big one, but at least it would only need one security detail.

SCOTUS is above the law because it sets all laws.
Congress says so. Only Congress can impeach and remove a Supreme Court Justice. And right now it's the Congress that put them on the bench, deciding they can do whatever they want with impunity. Which is why so many Republican congressional representative have resigned and are not running again. They don't agree with or respect what their own party is allowing.

The best way to determine the integrity of someone's character is to give them absolute power and see what they do with it. Do they use it to help others or merely to enrich themselves? I think we know all we need to know about the SCOTUS, and it's not good.
I'm from Germany, corruption like this would and could never happen here, and if by some chance it did, the justice would be immediately removed and indicted for corruption. And here they have a 12-year term limit.

What truly needs to be done is to get a majority in the House and Senate enough so these Judges who think they are immune get impeached and removed from office Since Congress can do so. They need to also look at the Trump appointees who seemingly lied in their Senate confirmation hearings.
If they remove all five of those Justices then when they confirm the replacements some of those replacements should be on the moderate side.
Congress should also do something about Cannon as well since she is risking our national security over the Trump documents case.
They need to also impose an ethics standard on the Supreme Court as well and consider setting up term limits concerning all federal Judges.
Reprimanded ? They’re not toddlers they need to be impeached and charged for taking bribes and failure to pay taxes

i am also an Oz. The basic problem is that all US supreme court appointments are at least in part a political act, and also seen as the final arbitrator of justice in the US. Most of the problems that have happened are because the politicians are afraid to act. The people should decide about abortion, execution, schooling and so on.

We need to hold the justices responsible for their actions. There should also be term limits and accountability for their actions, no one is above the law!

In my job, if I was to accept a gift, and did not declare it, I'd be fired or at the very least receive some serious discipline. Its estimated Thomas has received over 4 million in the last 20 years.
Yeah. When I had a real job, we had to declare gifts over $30. I just gave them away, to avoid paperwork. (I'm lazy.)

Same. I worked a low-level job in municipal government. All City employees were open to discipline or termination if we accepted any gift from a private citizen or party. We were instructed to say an appreciative "thank you" but then nicely explain that City policy prohibits us from taking it. Even if it was something as simple and relatively inexpensive as a can of Pepsi on a hot day, for example.

Considering his opinion on Roe v Wade I have no doubt of his guilt, and the thousands of reports against Kavanagh that were never investigated leave it clear that our court is compromised. To wit, their decisions clearly endanger women's rights.

It's a legal distinction & not as bad as you think. Most ethical declarations include not just corruption but the appearance of corruption. SCOTUS Justices are currently flouting ethical bans that in ordinary judges includes both corruption + the appearance of corruption. So they aren't softening it, more like it's twice as bad bc they don't even care about hiding it.

If the litigants on death row were SCOTUS justices, they wouldn't be on death row. Not a good comparison at all, and not even a comparable crime. Not that it shouldn't be, but under the way the court is governed, it's apparently not a crime at all. That's what you get when you have a self-policing government body.

Why are Judges allowed to accept any gifts of monetary value? Regardless of disclosures. If a lawyer goes the path of judgeship, they are effectively forfeiting a higher salary they could make in the private sector. That is an active choice, no one is being forced to be a judge. You can’t compensate a “lower” salary by accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of favors and experiences. You can’t possibly receive “gifts” with “no strings attached”.
