This recording we made in collaboration with Early Music Sources for a special episode about the piece: • Unsatisfyingly sweet: ...
0:40 That tenor ornamentation, I keep on repeating it. Sounds so pleasing and hard to do
I agree. This is why Josquin's music was called "Ars Perfecta." There is a beautiful arrangement of Mille regretz for vihuela, titled "Cancíon del Emperador," by Luis de Narváez. [Google Translate]
Mille regretz for not hearing this amazing performance before
Probably the best performance I've ever heard until now, lovely!
I don't think there is a performance of this song which gets anywhere near this one, with its subtlety, honesty and lovingly cared ensemble work. Thank you a million times. I would love to have an album of yours dedicated to Josquin chansons, which I think are still waiting for an ideal album. How about it?
Great idea, but someone probably has to raise money to pay them to do it.
@@mwnyc3976 why does that matter?
Stunningly beautiful performance!
Had never heard the tenor line so gorgeously ornamented as Jacob has sung it here, or the bass as Elam has.
An absolute joy to listen to.
The Phrygian mode makes this all the more sad, especially with what sounds like what should end with an A-major chord is actually an E-minor chord approached by a half step in the soprano.
Amazing. De Prez was one of the best exemplars of renaissance philosophy in music. Just beautiful.
Mille regretz de vous habandonner
Et d'eslonger votre fache amoureuse;
Qu'on me verra brief mes jours deffiner.
In english :
A thousand regrets for abandoning you
And leaving your loving face
I feel such painful sorrow and grief,
That soon my days will be seen to be numbered.
Thanks
Thank you so very much for the translations🙏✨
@@emtee4564 you're very welcome
En français? Que donc appellez-vous la langue de Josquin?

What a wonderful performance !
All voices sound so individual yet marry themselves so well with the others, enough to make it sound as a whole ; as One sound.
The lyrics as well spoken for the poetry of it to take its meaning
There's color, emotion, history, Music...
On top of that, it gives the idea of what Josquin's life would have sounded like.
In one word : Wonderful !
Pure beauty...Thank you all for this stunning performance
Even with iPhone sound the phrasing, the tapestry of the lines, the richness and delicacy of vocal production the elegant precision of pitch- all of the makes this a performance to be cherished. 2 minutes of bliss which will resonate lingering for as long as you let it.
What a performance! How it is possible to touch perfection that way! Congratulations.
Painfully beautifull,great interpretation profetti
The way you expressed this song was so beautifully interpreted! All the feelings was there. You showed in this song how regretful you were. It is a gorgeous interpretation. I've never heard such a poignant performance. I don't think I could express myself as you did. Congratulations! I love it "mille" times.
I love this so much! It's absolutely mesmerizing to watch you all communicate with each other as you sing! Also, the embellishment in the Tenor part is epic. Bravo!
Can I find this recording on spotify?
I listened to your beautiful recording for the first time a month ago, and since then I have returned to this video many times to listen again. Bravo! Amazing and fascinating singing! It's not better to find! Thank you so much (:
Wunderschön... raus schauen, die Regenwolken vorbei ziehen sehen und Eure Musik geniessen. Merci
Wow, a breathtaking piece of music and performance!
Quintessetially gorgeous. Nothing compares to this performance of this masterwork. Kudos to the vocalists for such truly glorious perfection.
Very nicely done. And fascinating knowing that emperor Charles V listened to this music over and over after the dead of his wife Isabel of Portugal.
this was absolutely incredible! beautiful voices, excelent control and a very exquisite use of dynamic and ornaments!
The best version of this piece perhaps ever recorded.
Great performance. This might sound overdramatic, but I believe this piece to be one of the greatest of all time. Despite incredible simplicity, the construction is *perfect*. And of course it's unbelievably moving.
Its genious beyond genious.
Its difficult to imagine more perfect, more harmonious rendition on any respect.
Everything is an enchantment. You made a tremendous work to acheive such a marvel. Thousand Thanks for this pure beauty 🌹
Absolutely masterful performance. I could watch this for hours.
One of the best rendition I’ve heard of this beautiful masterpiece. I love you work and channel.
Such beautiful harmony and melody. This piece by Josquin is so moving and majestic.
5 centuries later and this is still a bop.
Heavenly phrasing, tonality, control and texture in a sublime piece. Thank you
Thank you so much! This is an unbelievable treasure. I hope what you have put out into the world comes back to you ten times!
By far the most touching performance I've ever seen. What a rare moment. Thank you so much.
I regret that I can't like this 1000 times!
Me too! I also like the Luis de Narváez's "vihuela de mano" version. The best one in my opinion. ❤
Josquin would have been so happy to listen to your performance !!!! Perfect
Merci pour ce moment de bonheur.
That tenor is a straigt dawg, he's him.
So beautiful, especially with headphones. Tearful, lamentful and reverent music. My God
I've been coming back to this almost everyday for the last months. Thank you, Elam Rotem. This served as inspiration to study more antique music along with your videos, since my studies as classic musician have almost no content on how to play music before 1700...
This is something unique, we are very lucky.
Impresionante… sin palabras. La mejor versión que puede existir
Awesome and awesome ornementations ! Love it !! I had never heard ornementation on this loved piece and yours are very great. Your interpretation is very touching
Admirable, renaissance-worthy recording of one of the most haunting pieces of all times, whether it was actually written by Josquin or not.
Sublime!!
Merci, magnifique interprétation !
I still considering finding out about this song to be one of the greatest highlights of my musical history education
Thank you thank you thank you for keeping it alive
J'adore !!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Never Heard such a beautifful version. Thanks so much.
Thanks Elam (and the rest of you) for creating such a thing of beauty!
Wow, great rendition, the harmony is alive and the rhythm is perfect.
Nice to see Elam Rotem holding down the bass, no wonder it sounds so great.
This recording makes my eyes wet and I don't even know the words. Amazing song, and sung so delicately. beautiful, so
A magnificent piece performed with great feel and competence. A genuine pleasure to here a piece performed so well. I have heard very little of his work but I did hear another of his works but sadly forgret its name. A lament of some type for the death of an important person. 👍 I found it, A Far Cry - Josquin Des Prez Nymphes des bois La deploration sur la mort de Johannes Ockeghem. arr Caroline Shaw.
Yet another cracking performance by Profeti della Quinta! Thank you.
This is Soooo beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
Just exquisite! Love it so much. Found you by way of Early Music Sources. 🎼
Absolutely exquisite. Thank you.
I’m currently studying Narvaez’s vihuela intabulation. Thank you for a performance of such depth and beauty. It’s like a guiding light as I make my way through the piece on my instrument.
Just amazing.
Agora já está no Spotify. Obrigado, Profeti della Quinta!
If I didn't watch Elam Rotem's video about this piece of music, I wouldn't have been aware of this piece at all
Without a joke, you are so skillful it's just outstanding! Beautiful voices, amazing recording and mastery. You made me listen to this kind of music for like 2 years now. I am big fan of Profeti della quinta. I think this is the peak of music.
As EVERYONE else has said, so very beautiful. Thank you.
Bravo!
The beauty will save the world.
