    A recording from my lecture-recital "On Performing Josquin’s Chansons on the Clavicytherium" at the virtual conference "universum rei harmonicae concentum absolvunt - The Harpsichord in the 16th century" Institut für Alte Musik der mdw - Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien.

    The clavicytherium, made by Paolo Zerbinatti, follows the general format of the instrument preserved in London at the Royal College of Music Museum (?South German, c. 1480), an instrument that has unfortunately survived in a somewhat modified and distorted state.
    The keyboard has 39 keys, with a range from F2 to A5 [actual pitch extension F3-A6].

    He was known to be an incandescent genius of music, at Bach level talent. He was called "the master of the modes".
    We would know more of this composer if the music was closer to the modern taste bud. But that's like complaining that more people should read Chaucer in the original English

    • @vaniadalmaso
      @vaniadalmaso  Před 2 měsíci

      “Adieu mes amours” is a 4 voices chanson, here ‘entabulated’, i.e. put in a polyphonic score for a keyboard instrument. Each polyphonic voice has its separate row. The cantus is written in mensural notation in the upper staff, the other voices (altus, tenor, bassus) are written by letters (indicating the pitches) and other symbols for the duration.

    Salve. Stupenda esecuzione
    Se è possibile vorrei porle alcune domante tecniche:
    Sarebbe possibile sapere che tipo di accordatura è stata usata per questa esecuzione?
    È possibile conoscere altresí il tipo di accordatura usata su questo tipo di strumenti nel 300-400?
    Lo strumento mi pare non avere tasti spezzati, quindi immagino non si faccia distinzione fra diesis e bemolli.
    Sarebbe, a suo avviso, una falsificazione storica provare ad eseguire questo brano con accoradure pitagoriche che fanno uso di un numero di note superiori a 12 con coppie di suoni enarmonicente distinti?
    La ringrazio e mi scuso per le tediose domande che le ho posto

    • @vaniadalmaso
      @vaniadalmaso  Před rokem

      Grazie per l'apprezzamento. Per questa esecuzione ho accordato con il temperamento mesotonico 1/4 di comma; i tasti neri sono accordati come diesis il fa, il do e il sol e come bemolli il si e il mi.
      Se eseguo musiche del '300-'400 preferisco usare l'intonazione pitagorica, posizionando il 'lupo' in base alle alterazioni presenti nella musica da eseguire.
      La sua ultima domanda è molto interessante. Non ho approfondito la questione e quindi non mi sento di esprimere opinioni in carenza di studi e riflessioni al riguardo, mi dispiace. Proverò a pensarci.
      Grazie a lei!

    how does the jack return when a key is released? On a harpsichord it's just done via gravity but that of course isn't possible when they move horizontally.

    • @vaniadalmaso

      the jacks are attached to the rod that rises from the rear end of the key key and return by gravity when the key is released
