I think ‘Danny’ represents the Dad’s trauma from the abuse and neglect he received as a child from his mom. And the story is about his fear that the harm he suffered would in turn hurt his son. In short, it’s about generational trauma
makes sense, esp since the mom said "shouldn't you be heading back," since she was the reason for his childhood trauma in the first place

I had a closet with the loses hinges. It didn't take much for it open. My Mom gave me a mini flashlight, so every time I thought I saw something. I would shine there and see nothing. Then go back to sleep.
As a child, I was frequently sad that I hadn’t developed an imaginary friend. I thought that one day, I and only I, would see a stuffed animal like child who would speak to me and keep me company. I thought I was a bad kid and hadn’t earned one.

My imaginary friend was actually named Danny (Danni, technically, full name Daniella). Later found out that there was a male relative who tragically died named Danny. Probably good my mom didn't pay much attention to me playing pretend or she would have flipped shit, bc she's really into receiving "signs" from the beyond and def would've thought it was a ghost. I just named her that bc I liked Danny Phantom💀

I don't typically get scared by these stories, but I think Ryan and Shane make it hard for me to get scared. I get scared of True Crime, but never when Ryan and Shane are the ones telling me.

As a kid, I would play alone outside for hours with not much more than my imagination. But even with that, I can't say I ever had an "imaginary friend". The concept has honestly always been weird to me because I understand the idea behind it but the moment I needed to come back to reality, everything was gone. Same. While I had a recurring imaginary friend that I created, she was only ever there when I actively thought about her and pictured her with me. And she was always more of a concept, rather than an actual being that I would see or have actual conversations with, or whatever.
(Her name was Jasmine, and she was a shapeshifter. She only ever took the forms of animals, though. Usually something fast, like a horse or a cheetah, so I could imagine her running playfully alongside the car on long trips. She was just sort of a vague, protective presence that was there when I needed her. ☺️)

When I was young my imaginary friend told me he didn't want to be my friend anymore, then left and never came back.

I deliberately created my imaginary friend as a kid, because it sounded like a fun thing to do. lol
Her name was Jasmine, and she was a shapeshifting animal. We never really talked, or hung out. She was always more of a vague concept, a calming presence that mostly stayed in the periphery, rather than a more physical presence that I interacted with a lot. Occasionally, I’d picture her close enough to pet, but that was pretty rare.
On long road trips, I really liked imagining her in a horse or cheetah form, playfully running alongside the car on the side of the road and gracefully jumping over fences and such along the way. 😊

My imaginary friend as a kid was just. Slenderman. I didn't know any of the lore or anything I think I just saw like one picture of him & latched on.
I think it's because I was a very anxious kid prone to some pretty terrible nightmares, so having a scary imaginary friend was kind of comforting in a roud-about way. Whenever I was scared I would just picture him in my mind's eye & be like "Demons wont get me because Slenderman is watching over me :)" & it worked lol.
Oh my god I've never mentioned this to anyone because it was really fucked up but I also had an imaginary friend from creepypasta. It was fucking Jeff the killer. Which is arguably worse but I guess that's what happens when you have unrestricted internet access at a young age 💀

Also its interesting to me in retrospect how many fanfics & stuff existed for creepypasta characters where they're friends with the reader insert character & the fic is just sort of them hanging out. I think a lot of kids latched onto creepypastas as comfort characters, but very few will admit to it now for fear of being seen as cringe.
Idk, I think it's sort of funny looking back but I don't feel bad about it. Yeah it was weird but it did help with my nightmares so hey 🤷 I can't complain.

I feel like "what if you were my imaginary friend" is a good premise for a scary story.
A story about a college age person who meets and becomes best friend with someone who happens to have the same name as their childhood imaginary friend. But the longer they know eachother, the more and more it seems like the friend remembers their childhood together.

Me and my sister had an imaginary "friend" named Birdie. He was a giant blue humanoid-ish bird with a pterodactyl-like face. He was very naughty and was always mean and did bad things. I barely remember him but in retrospect that must've been creepy af for our parents
Oh so it's like Hereditary, the mom passed Danny onto her son (it's implied she intentionally left him alone and lonely so that he'd take to Danny) and now she wants to make sure her son passes it on likewise. I think that IS a type of demon, when the only solace a person can get is to commit the crime of afflicting it upon another person.
Around 14:20 there's the discussion of if you'd be nervous if your kid had the same-named imaginary friend as you, and i have an answer! My mom was scared as heck, because her imaginary friend was named Mary and then so was mine.. AND so was my sister's. She had some energy or spirit cleansing done & neither me nor my sister actually remember said imaginary friend
To be fair, Mary is like, THE most common given name in the world. If it were something more unique it’d be scarier, I reckon
well, Mary is a pretty common female name, and everyone tends to forget their imaginary friend when they grow up. So i don't think it's that scary tbh
i technically had an “imaginary friend” but it was in the physical form of my favorite stuffed animal. I carried that stuff animal EVERYWHEREEE with me 😭 as a twin, i think i just needed someone around me at all times. i developed in the womb with someone, and was born into the world with them, so being on my own was unfamiliar territory.
Everyone's imaginary friends always seem to have such normal names, mine were Glinday and Glonday lol if my kid came up with those out of nowhere I would be terrified.

I like the idea that in Ghost Files, there's really concrete, irrefutable evidence of ghosts climbing out of mirrors and stuff but they just don't keep it in the episode and Shane has nerves of steel.
i had an imaginary friend when i was very young (2 or 3). they appeared after I had a nightmare and my mom comforted me saying that it was just a dream. from then on I started talking to my imaginary friend whose name meant dream in korean. my parents were really freaked out and I would count multiple in certain spaces, usually in the top corners of rooms. Sometimes there’d be five in the room, sometimes they wouldn’t be there at all. one day i yelled at my imaginary friend to leave while pointing at the open window. from then on i never talked about my imaginary friend and had no memory of them.

I never had an imaginary friend but I do remember one time I really wanted one so I decided that I'd have a family of seven imaginary cat friends and promptly forgot about them until now. I finally have my own cat and (as much as I love her) I couldn't imagine having SEVEN cats!

i had an imaginary friend named sebastian who i used to say was my brother. cool dude. weird though because he was not my age, he was around 19-21-ish (i’m estimating here) and he had hair that would alternate between white, blue, and purple, and he had tattoos and a bridge piercing. what’s funny is that sebastian also had an imaginary friend, who was a leprechaun that sat on his shoulder and basically just argued with him about anything and everything, meanwhile sebastian was always convincing me to do crazy stuff.
I do not have a piercing and I only dyed my hair colors once or twice.

I never talked to my toys/imaginary friends as a kid because I just assumed they could read my thoughts(??), so I'd have incredibly long silent "conversations" with them where I talked to them in my head, and now I'm very glad that my parents never saw me doing that because that sounds horrifying to walk in on 😅 Great video though, very unsettling!! I'm an adult and I still keep most of my toys, never really understood how other people think of them as creepy, but to each their own ig!
I would love it if you made two videos for every story: one where Ryan just reads the story straight without interruptions, and one where Ryan and Shane get to be silly. I'd watch both.
I love any show format that feels like I'm pulling up a chair to hang out with Ryan and Shane 🧡 This is a fun story, and I love the implication that the mom had been letting the creature feed off her kid until he grew up and left.
even though the ending was changed, this story is still really good! the original one as posted by the author was much more... disturbing. i would've loved to see that ending in art form lol. but the direction the watcher boys took here leaves more to the imagination so i'm not complaining

My imaginary friend was also the phenomenon lots of kids get where they imagine a person or animal running beside the car as it drives. She would jump around on objects (lampposts, signs, other cars, etc) and sit on top the car when I fell asleep. When not in the car I imagined she knew nothing about humans, so I had to teach her. She was humanoid with features just off enough to give the idea that she wasn't human but I was super into fae and the like. I don't remember exactly but my mom tells me she apparently had dark hair, black eyes, pointy ears, sharp teeth, and purpleish skin I dont remember when for a fact but one day I just stopped seeing her.

I feel bad for Danny, dude was just trying to catch up with a friend. All the dad had to do was apologize for his absence and set some boundaries for when tea parties were acceptable. THIS is no longer an "Are you scared?" It should be an "AITA?"
