  • This was the 12th round encounter between Vishy Anand and Sergey Karjakin. Anand had been on fire on day two of the blitz and had scored two wins against So and Mamedyarov. His next opponent was Sergey Karjakin. Would Vishy be able to score his third win in a row? Or would the minister of Defence strike?

    Can someone explain to me why at 14:10 Karjakin takes Anand's pawn with his knight, rather than take Anand's bishop with his pawn? Wouldn't he want to take the more powerful piece and he can protect pawn from promoting with his rook?

    • @vedantbhatt88
      @vedantbhatt88 Před 5 lety +1

      First of all, note that Karjakin has better pawn structure at one side while Anand has that on the other side. Now Pawn takes bishop was not played because it would have disrupted Karjakin's pawn structure thereby giving Anand an upper hand with his pawns on the other side of the board, making one of them a potential queen. Dispite taking a more powerful piece, Karjakin would have never been able to develop a Queen from any of his pawns while Anand could have
