    I purchased a Lem #10 Manual Grinder for $113, Stainless Steel. Also purchased 7Lbs. chicken leg quarters. I cut the leg quarters into 3 pieces at the joints with a knife and the grinder ate them without any problems. It came with a 3/8" course grind plate, a 3/16" fine grinding plate, and stainless steel cutting blade. I used the 3/8" plate. I noticed the store had replacement blades for about $20. This grinder is very well-built. I'm glad I didn't have to spend $400 to get the job done, and storage won't be a problem either.

    Wonderful video! Have you had any jams from the hard cartilage/white slippery chunks that are on the ends of the chicken drumsticks? Or the skin getting tied around the internal parts? If not, do you think it’s because you are using a coarser grinding plate? I have Boston Terriers and they don’t chew but swallow things whole and I worry about the bone fragments that come with using a coarser plate. I don’t want their esophagus or stomach getting cut up with bone fragments. I have an LEM #32 and use the finest plate and while the bone is sand-like when you feel with your fingers, the jams of all those white plastic-like parts of the drumstick are often so I have to disassemble everything which is a huge chore in a grinder with extremely heavy parts. Let me know your thoughts on this, and thank you

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving  Před 4 měsíci

      I have used both plates. Never had any type of jamb what so ever. As far as bone fragments, I have never had any that would concern me with either plate. After I grind the meat, I mix all my vegetables, eggs, etc. in a tub with my bare hands. I have never felt any shards, never cut my skin, and never felt anything to be concerned with. Our English bulldog is the same when eating, or as I call it, inhaling. She chews nothing. Now I can't tell you there would never be a fragment, but I have never seen or felt one after grinding about 600 - 800 lbs of meat. I hope this helps answer your question.

    • @btpuppy2
      @btpuppy2 Před 3 měsíci

      @@DevaultFamilyLiving Thanks! I ordered it but the fit and finish was really bad, but the main thing is that meat backed up into the area right in front of the motor, around the rivets, in areas I needed to use a toothpick in to try and get it out, there was no gasket anywhere to keep this from happening. I found it when I removed the chute assembly to clean it. Is there any gasket in yours? I made some videos showing what happened, but putting links in here will just be removed. I ground just 4 lbs of skinless chicken legs but the bone shards were too large and ended up grinding it three times to get it down to a coarse sandy size. When I opened to clean, all those white knobby things were stuck in there, it didn't affect things yet since I only did 4 lbs, but if I had gone any longer, it would have been a problem. My LEM #32 backed up too, but with the larger assembly it took a little longer. Let me know if yours has any kind of gasket to keep meat from backing up. Thanks!

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving  Před 3 měsíci

      @@btpuppy2 there is no gasket to my knowledge. I am sorry that you are having these issues. I do get some particles in that area as well. Not a lot, but definitely some. I did on my old grinder as well. It can be a pain to clean. I use compressed air to blow the area out before I clean it. Definitely helps get all the particles from the crevasses. I have an air compressor where I grind the dogs food. If you don't have access to a air compressor, you can purchase small cans of compressed air (normally used for cleaning computers & keyboards). I can't answer that for certain, because I have never done turkey. However, I would guess that it would have no problem since turkey bones are hollow like chicken (just larger). The grinder has been flawless to this point. I have yet to even get a single jamb. Everything has held up as it should. Even the cheap plastic plunger that they sent with it. It would be a complete guess on how many pounds of stuff I have ran through it, but I would say somewhere between 400 - 600 lbs. Most of that being "bone in" chicken quarters for my dog. Blades, and cutting plates are surprisingly still holding a good edge. Although I will likely sharpen them in the next 4-6 months. Responding to dropfry comment. After reading your comment I found other products like the one you referenced i.e. Barton and Happybuy and others and almost bought one. After doing a little more digging I found there’s no answer to the phone number they give you to call to get questions answered. And a 90 day warranty and the like. On one of them I had to go through Amazon to have a question relayed to them. When I did get a ‘response’ they didn’t answer my question at all. My experience with them raised big red flags. Decided not to buy from them. After quite a bit of research into Costway I felt satisfied with my experience with them. As usual, do sufficient research to hopefully avoid surprises.

      We use chicken quarters (40%) beef (15%) pork (15%) beef liver or chicken gizzards (10%) and the remaining 20% is vegetables & fruit (normally a mixture of broccoli, strawberries, green beans, apples). The fruits and veggies we try to change up a little with every batch. We also put eggs in the mixture as well.
      In the beginning we had to do smaller batches to see what worked best for her. So a little experimenting may be necessary.
      I would like to do venison in place of the pork, beef, and even some of the chicken. However I haven't hunted the last couple of years. Hopefully I will get back to hunting next year and give that a try since it has a far less fat content then most other meats. Fish is also a great food source, but far to expensive to buy. I don't get out fishing as often as I would like.
      My best advise is to experiment and see what your dog likes. If your gonna spend the extra time and money on RAW diet, might as well give them what they enjoy.

      I am still using it, and it has continued to work flawlessly. Chicken bones are still no issue. I will probably be due to sharpen the cutting plate within the next few months, but that is no big deal. Just normal maintenance.

I was shocked at how huge it is so Im hopeful . We will see. Wish me luck. Mine didn’t have sausage stuffer attachments tho.

      That does suck. Unfortunately that is the case with many things right now. Hopefully they will get them back in stock soon. I have used it several more times since making that video, and I could not be happier with it. Thanks for watching and have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.

      @DevaultFamilyLiving  Před 2 lety

      That is real bummer. Some of my friends in Ontario will sometimes have it shipped to me in Michigan when they run into that. Then they will either come over and get it, or I will ship it to them from the US. That idea would be costly though considering the weight of the unit. Wish I better idea for ya.

    Wetson # 22 is garbage and so is there NO CUSTOMER NO SERVICE, big waste of money and I returned it. Also besides not even grinding properly all the chicken juice came through the neck of the tray and leaked all over, very disgusted with Wetson.
