Good plan. I have a similar set-up and use the second screen to run secondary tasks, e.g. I have the O.E.D. window open permanently on the smaller screen (accessed through the portal of a local university) to look up words and thus keep the main window uncluttered.
The netbook has a REALLY tiny screen. And I like to be able to see a lot of what I've just written, so I can glance back as I go and make sure it's flowing properly, that I'm not repeating words or phrases without realizing it, that I'm not starting every new paragraph with the same person's name, etc. The larger monitor, in portrait mode, is great for that. I even go so far as to reformat my documents to be the maximum page height (22 inches) to minimize page breaks, since they annoy me. :-)

With the set up you've got, why don't you use your lap-top monitor?
