As a swiss local, i think this video is romanticising a few things that are actually not safe to do. I'm tired of tourists coming here and ending up lost in nature or just going on hikes unprepared.
    - drinking straight from the river: tourists love to do this because they think the water comes "sTrAigHt fRoM ThE mOuNtaiN". Very often, there are cows higher up that pee into it, and just in general, if you dont want to end up with diarrhea, then dont drink it. There are enough fountains with drinkable water here, or you bring your filter.
    - eating blueberries without washing them: there's an illness that is quite common in central europe, transmitted through fox poop. The chances of getting it are not that high, but if you get it, your fked, there is no real cure. Wash anything you find on the ground before eating it.
    - just "going on a hike spontaneously, without any planning": generally not a good idea. Many tourists get lost because they think its "adventurous" to not plan when its simply.. well, dumb. If you get into a storm, lightning, thunder or fog, no one can drive up there and come get you. Many people forget that. No, not even the Rega or any other Helicopter. Also the weather in the swiss mountains can turn in a matter of minutes, and its way more extreme: heavy rain and wind, rocks falling down, fog that leaves you with zero sight. Just check the damn meteoSwiss app, its not that hard. Also, without route planning, your 2 hour hike can turn into a 9 hour nightmare, and the mountains are actual nature. No street lights, and quite often also no phone service.
So what did we learn: going into the mountains unprepared is not "spontaneous and romantic", as this video depicts. Plan your route and where you sleep. Camping in the wild is generally forbidden in switzerland for good reason, Unless you're very high up in the mountains (1800m.ü.m).
Bring enough food, water and dry clothes. Make sure your hiking abilities are adequate for your route. Leave everything as you first saw it, take your trash with you, leave the cows alone and dont break into locked huts or sheds (these things happen all the time). Thank you.
Edit: this was not meant to sound mean in any way, english is not my first language, so i apologize for any misunderstandings. However it is important, especially for young people to differenciate between what you see online and reality. This video makes it seem like a perfect, spontaneous, easy thing without any risks, and like its totally safe and okay to go into the swiss mountains/alps without much Preparation. Social media is a curated selection of the perfect moments these creators want you to see, dont forget about that, and dont run into the mountains without a proper tent or planning because its "adventurous". Respect nature and be well prepared, and i assure you you will have a wounderful time in the mountains. Stay safe❤

However, as I live in Switzerland and have been hiking here in the mountains my whole life, I have to say it is extremely dangerous to go up in the mountains so unprepared! Checking weather conditions, checking the route, having appropriate gear and being well rested is soo important when you go so high up. I'm very glad it worked out well for you, I just dont think it is wise to encourage anybody to do the same. Dont underestimate the power of nature pls 🙏

Isabel you may not think about this at all, but to be young and in such good condition to do these hikes is such a bLessing. I know you are so thankful for all you have. I am 61 gosh it’s getting very close now to 62 and in my late 40’s my body began to fall apart with autoimmune disease. I used to do 60 mile breast cancer walks. Walking was my favorite form of exercise. I struggle to walk now, and need surgery for a torn gluteus muscle, I just had a total knee replacement 5 weeks ago, and the list goes on and on, but I live in chronic pain. I’ve broken my leg and feet four times in the last year… mY DREAM was to back pack mountains like you’re doing. I think it is too late for me. You never know. It was taken from me so quickly. So I love to watch your videos. I wanted this one to last longer. I was living vicariously through you. Love you Isabel. Take care and be careful. ❤

I'm sure you are grateful to be in such a privileged position in life & still be able to share & relate to the viewers who are more often than not, much less fortunate. That is an incredible gift. You seem very wise & yet somehow a little naive about life at the same time. An innocence about you that comes through the screen keeps me coming back to the next video & the next. Yep also a Swiss local here and a bit perplexed about the romanticizing happening here. Puts her other videos in perspective too. Also wish they would've put price tags on things for other people wanting to travel. Taking a gondola for 5-10min up generally costs +$45/person if you don't have a year-pass (GA) or reduction card ("Halbtax"). And the huts up there, as simple as they look, cost at least $110/night. Food is not cheap either, especially all the imported goods like avocado, nuts, and miso paste.

It's such a blessing to be alive, and sometimes we forget how fragile life can be and how much we should embrace it and be thankful. It's difficult when you live in a city, and it's so sad to think how detached from our planet we can be. This was a beautiful video, I enjoyed every single minute of it; I loved how you kept it real, and it wasn't only beautiful shots and laughter with a friend. I don't usually comment on videos and I only stumbled across this one by accident, but the video really made me angry and worried. Because it conveys something very wrong: putting one's own experience before respect for the mountain region and the nature there as well as the safety of others. Two thoughts on this: 1) the habitat for wild animals in the Alps is already very limited by humans and there is a good reason why it is NOT allowed to camp in the mountain forests there. Camping there and putting it on CZcams as a "great experience" for everyone to imitate only leads to the destruction of this habitat. Of course, in exceptional situations it is possible to spend the night where you are, but only as a possible last resort. That is also my second point. 2) Going into the mountains unprepared is simply dangerous, and it's even more dangerous to put something like that on CZcams as a "great experience" for everyone to see and possibly emulate. When it is already said in the video: We didn't have a map and didn't know how far it was. That shows poor preparation and can have fatal consequences in the mountains. If e.g. they lost their track because of poor visibility, the track would have been too difficult or changing weather conditions (like snow) would cause hypothermia etc.
The video therefore would better be titled: How NOT to go into the mountains and what NOT to do there.

Isabel, the last couple of years you talk about how life is very difficult for you and how much discontent you have. Perhaps a practice of gratitude would help. Most people struggle with finances, being able to live the way they want, traveling whenever and having a loving supportive family and partner...all issues it doesn't seem you have. Perhaps seeing how others not on youtube live, would make you realize how incredible your life is. Everyone has stresses so I'm not minimalizing yours, but girl, you got it good 😅

Firstly, you can pitch that tarp in a better way...to make a more weatherproof shelter. I suggest, for the future, that you might do some Googling as regards tarp pitches...and practice with your tarp. It's not hard. (I use a tarp for nearly all of my backpacking trips.) Next, NEVER sleep out on the ground without an insulating pad. A good one is a (very smart) investment, if you plan on any more camping in future.
But, it seems that you two survived (I'm glad)...and had a fun time. Maybe that is enough !
Anyway, lovely video. I plan to get to Norway and Sweden sometime before I die...because they are basically backpacker heaven !

I think we need to re frame this. If you watch both Elizabeth’s and Hitomi’s videos they both talked about being unprepared for the hike because they were tired and then lost the trail. We don’t know what preparations were made off camera. They both travel extensively and the point of vlogging is to share the experience. Somethings were not done in the way they should but I think these women understand the importance of preparation now more than ever. Also, I now more about hiking in the Swiss mountains. I think this video was really educating, and the comments from the locals and people who have done the hike will show others just how important preparation, research on the local laws and planning really is. ❤

This video gave me so much anxiety, oh my god.
All is cute and fine and then:
-have no idea what they’re doing or where they’re going
    -have no map
-NO CLUE ABOUT HOW LONG THE TRAIL IS
    -DON’T EVEN HAVE A TENT
-could add they didn’t check the weather, but in the alps I’m familiar with sometimes it can be unpredictable (and very fucking dangerous)
    -drink random water
-pick random blueberries without even washing them
-I need to repeat they have no clear idea of the path and don’t have a tent because it fucks with my brain so much
-sleep and lit a fire in a random hut which by the looks of it there’s no way it’s just a hut for hikers to seek shelters, that’s a fully renovated house
-SCREAM ON TOP OF A FUCKING MOUNTAIN
-somehow they have enough energy to dance??? After 2 days hiking and a night in the rain which could very likely have costed them at the very least hypothermia??? Good for them I guess???
-they go back in the rain after all that just for funzies
-not knowing the trek and how long it was how did they manage food ratios????
-they start the trail back at whatever hour o’clock
I hope to god this is all staged and dramatised for views.
And no I’m not here just to complain, I usually like her videos, this is just ridiculously dangerous and if you don’t think so too it means you’ve never seen a mountain in your life. And that’s ok too. But you still need to know that everything about this video is a death sentence

In the comments, various Swiss people warned against the danger of the mountains. Lemme give an illustration. Many years ago as a young lad, I did some hiking and climbing in Valois around La Sage. One day we were up a trail, quite easy not steep and not even that high and suddenly we come upon 3 crosses and a remembrance plate: 3 mountain rescuers had died here some years ago. I was stunned: obviously experienced guys, and they died on this easy path? I expressed my amazement to the guide we had with us. His simple reply (in French): "You have not been here when the weather is bad"

Even when you're just at home - living in the wilderness as you do - everything around you brings all of your senses to life on a daily basis. The sights, sounds, smells, and overall atmosphere of the outdoors is all too often lost in today's hectic world.

This is the first time ever I commented on a youtube video, but this one really bothered me. Normally I enjoy watching your videos, but honestly, this one seemed very irresponsible. I live in the mountains of Switzerland and it is not allowed to wildcamp here, just under very special circumstances, and especially NOT just randomly in the middle of the forest. And for good reason. There may be sensitive wildlife, which you could easily destroy by being so irresponsible. So you just promoting that and disregarding other countries rules and customs seems a bit rude. Also going into the mountains so unprepared can be really dangerous and should not be promoted as a cute video.

At 75, no psychologist here, but looking back to my youth it seems we're just genetically programmed to dream big & yearn for everything and at the same time try to be true to ourselves; often times we set unrealistic expectations. But, I suppose if we weren't a bit discontent we wouldn't be driven to achieve. Then you get older and your expectations change. But, I'd say you've achieved a lot. So, keep questioning life and never be completely content.

Seeing youse (being from Chicago, that is how we say the plural of you) so happy together brings back memories of camping when I was ur age--with my junior high school classmates at Alliance Redwoods near Occidental California, or later camping with my folks in their 23 foot self contained Wilderness Trailer at Howard Prairie Lake in Oregon.
My daughter, when she was 'yiddle', enjoyed the small adventure campground at California Adventure and the wonderful redwood and pine smells there.
