    Awesome video and so very descriptive.. Your are a first class videographer, and teacher. Thanks The Nissan dealer wanted almost $ 300.00 to replace this. As a retired man on SS, I can't afford it. The belt cost me $ 39.00 and my labor is free although painful for a 78 year old fella.

    8:03 That really helped me, thanks. I replaced the water pump and tensioner pulley on my Micra K13 - which should be pretty straightforward. But the out-of-sight tensioner screw was causing all sorts of problems; it apparently fell out of position and became misaligned. I'd suggest the best solution might be to remove it entirely, turn it to the loosest position (as shown here) and re-install it, then put the pulley back on the other side. Then, no problems getting the belt back on - just keep on tightening the screw.

    This video applies to the Nissan Micra as well.
    EXCELLENT VIDEO!
    If you check your Versa Owners Manual, the wheel lug nut torque may be 83 ft-lbs. This is the torque value for the Micra.

      Yeah the process and socket size is the same; however, the Micra is smaller, so I had to use a 1/4 ratchet instead of a 3/8 ratchet since there's less clearance to the idler pulley and adjustment bolt than what's shown in other Versa belt replacement DIY vids.

  • @archieandrewsakachris4129

    I tied this but couldn't get the belt back on. Ended up trying to loosen the tensioner bolt, it snapped because it was seized. I had to wait a week before getting the parts. Just be careful if you end up loosening the tensioner, there's a good chance it will be seized. The old bolt the does the tensioning was quite small in diameter so it was easily snapped. I ended up ordering both bolts and the nut. Also make sure the pully bolt is tightened enough before tensioning as this caused mine to walk off after tensioning properly. The bolt was probably at an angle. I used this fabulous video as a reference the whole time.

    • @DL21042
      @DL21042 Před rokem

      It sounds like youi didn't loosen the pulley bolt first. If you don't, you won't be able to loosen nor tighten the tensioner bolt. It will act like it's seized.

    • @FatNebraskaMom
      @FatNebraskaMom Před měsícem

      This is probably what I'm going to have to do, because that nut is a cheap ass aluminum piece of mierda that keeps stripping but will not turn at all. I've had the pinche thing soaking in penetrating fluid all day and it still will not come off.

  • @VictorDC61
    @VictorDC61 Před 5 lety +2

    Very good explanatory video, very nicely done! The only thing I might add if you don't have a tension gauge is that it is better for the belt to be a little loose than too tight. If it can be moved a little and doesn't squeal, it's about right. If it is too tight, it can cause premature wear on the belt and the bearings of the other pulleys..

    @tomhernandez1308 Před 3 měsíci

    Nice video, thanks! Just a comment on removing the fender liner - you don't need to remove it completely. The back few push pins can be left in place and then you can just bend the liner past the wheel. Saves a little work, not a whole lot. If I take the whole liner off I like to just hose all the dust off from it to ease the messiness the next time around. It did look like you didn't tuck the liner back into the body though. I recommend putting it back as installed from the factory to prevent more moisture intrusion around the well.

    What is the typical mileage an OEM belt should be replaced? I have 77k on original belt. Thank you!

      It's hard to say, usually I check for Cracks on the belt. Typically at 100k I always replace the belt whether it looks bad or not.

    FYI to all
    Someone said the Tensioner nut on their car was rounded off. This probably occurred because someone attempted to loosen the Tensioner before loosening the pulley nut. IMPORTANT: loosen the black pulley's locknut first!, BEFORE you loosen the Tensioner nut. I can't stress that enough.

    HI Nic, great video, very detailed. Our Nissan note is squealing at the moment. Can I tighten the tensioner with out having undone the bolt in the centre of the tensioner wheel? We have the 1.2 ltr engine in a 2014 plate

    • @themechanic6117
      @themechanic6117  Před 3 lety +1

      No you cant ,you have to loosen that center bolt before you can apply more tension

      Many thanks. Would I be right in thinking that due to the tensioner not having a spring that you have to manually tighten the tensioner every few thousand miles? Why would they not use a spring tensioner?

      @themechanic6117  Před 3 lety +1

      You're right. As the belt stretches you may have to adjust. Its just the way the engine was designed. Either because its morecost effective or space constraints.

    Hey what's up, I have a 2014 nissan note and 2 things I notice the auto stop /start and I heard a noise where the belt is. Do you have any idea what the problem is?

      I'm not familiar with the auto start/stop,my car doesn't have that . You may want to take the belt off to inspect the pullies

    Autozone sales low profile 12 point 3/8's sockets for $20 a set. They probably would have worked pretty good for this application.
