SHEEP, DOG 'N' WOLF/SHEEP RAIDER, PS1: i don't have a nose review

  • Who else has always wanted the chance to play as Wile E Coyote? Well, you can't. But you CAN play as his cousin, the so-not-similar-looking Ralph Wolf, in Sheep, Dog 'n' Wolf - also known as Sheep Raider in some regions. And boy, am I surprised at its shear difficulty (get it?)!
    This game is extremely challenging, and sees you having to actually THINK like a cartoon character, the goal simply being to steal all the sheep from Sam Sheepdog's flock without getting caught. Bizarrely, this game is seldom talked about, which is a shame considering how well-made it is. Indeed, amid the other standard cartoon action platformers, this game stands alone - you might say it's something of a black sheep itself.
    Thanks to Robocop for the request! I hope I did the game justice and that you enjoyed!

    Good review i love this game i still have it playing this game but on my ps2 since i cant save the game i try to pass it when i play it but i always at level 14 cant figure it out how to beat it i can imagine how hard the last level must be

    • @idonthaveanose
      @idonthaveanose  Před 5 lety

      Level 14 confused me for a long time. I initially talked about that level more but it was cut in the end as it felt lengthy. Annoyingly, the last level is quite hard, but the worst of it is you don't get to save your position after level 14 as far as I'm aware. So if you give up and decide to come back later, you'd have to play level 14 all over again.
      Thanks for the comment btw! :)

    YYYYYEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!! My favourite PS1 game ever! So few people have played this, in my experience. Rocking music, excellent puzzles, brilliant writing and good animation that's worthy of Looney Tunes. 😄 Love the original shorts too. The 'its just a job' dynamic between Ralph and Sam is genius. Incidentally, Ralph is canonically Wile E. Coyote's cousin (all there in the manual). My favourite level is still the ghost one. A solid multi-phase challenge.
    Two fun little things you might have missed in the game:
    1. In the level with the bush tutorial, you can fall down from the cliff behind Sam. If you stay behind him, the whole flock will take notice of you and jump up and down in place trying to tell Sam of your presence. However, Sam will just continue to look left and right, oblivious.
    2. If you blow up Daffy with anything, be it dynamite, mines or cannonballs, you get an extra bit of dialogue once he's black with ash.

      It is a fantastic game, really. As I said, one of the very best Looney Tunes games, and one of the few that I think truly captures the humour. I knew the second thing, don't recall the first. It is not easy either! That gossamer boss had me scratching my head for so long when I first played it. It's actually really nice to know there are other Looney Tunes games fans out there- these LT videos rarely get a huge initial response. Hope I did your favourite PS1 game justice. I always try and condense as much of the game as possible into these reviews. As I've already said, I'm going to be covering Looney Tunes Racing soon, and in future I also wanna take a look at Taz Wanted and Space Race. Back in Action and ACME Arsenal are currently in the 'maybe' pile...

    • @DoctorInk20
      @DoctorInk20 Před 5 lety

      @@idonthaveanose Heck yes, you did it justice! Sweet Threepwood's beard, don't get me started on Gossamer. That was the most unintuitive thing ever designed. I had a badly worded guide in a cheat book back in the day that didn't help at all. Other than that, that's what I really like about the game. It's not afraid to be challenging for kids.
      Yeah, the Looney Tunes aren't as popular as they used to be, so I can understand why there'd be slim interest. 1989 - 2004 was really the revival-peak-decline for modern state of the franchise. Pretty much Tiny Toons to Back in Action. Anything after that (Loonatics Unleashed) would just plummet like an Acme stock share in... well a black hole.
      I won't taint your opinion on any of those until the videos are out then, but there's a story I have regarding Acme Arsenal: coming to a comment section near you. XD
      Actually, just to throw more fuel on this intriguing nostalgia fire, were you aware of the Animaniacs PS2 game or the Duck Dodgers N64 game?

    • @idonthaveanose
      @idonthaveanose  Před 5 lety +1

      Haha! I assume you're also a Monkey Island fan? Honestly, I love a game with a good challenge. I actually LIKE to get frustrated with a game - obviously it depends on the context. I mean, if controls are just plain terrible, that's not good, but if it's finding a solution I like it when they don't spoon-feed you information. A lot of later movie tie-ins do that and it's so patronising. Okay, they're primarily for kids but give them some credit- I'm sure they can figure out how to jump by themselves. Always makes me laugh when they have a really patronising tutorial and some extremely difficult puzzles later on.
      I am aware of both games but never played either. I believe my friend had the Duck Dodgers game.
      Btw thanks for the nice comments, it means a lot!

      @@idonthaveanose Hey, no problem. Credit where is due, man. 😉 Aye aye! Now there's a game that doesn't spoon-feed you! You must deduce things by your own wits! Especially in LeChuck's Revenge. 💀 I like a game that plops you into a world and lets you figure things out organically. I feel like I'd literally end up repeating the Sequelitis Megaman video if I kept going. XD

    What a coincidence, I was just playing Sheep, Dog, and Wolf (Sheep Raider) right after watching your Incredibles review onward (finished the game 3 weeks ago).
    For me the game is fun and challenging, but becomes frustratingly teadious once you look back at the clock and notice you spent about 2 hours on one level.
    The PC version is the definitive version of the game due to updated texture mods that make the game look like a PS2 game ported to the PS3 in HD.
    For me the most confusing level was the one with the Road Runner, because there is SO MUCH going on and yet you only have to do a fraction of what's on screen.... Plus Road Runner is meaningless to the task and yet I still spent a good hour trying to figure out what Road Runner does for me in the long run.... Nothing. You can't catch him like the cartoon.
    Overral a great game with extra levels if you are willing to find all the hidden work clockins and an awesome review as always.

      @idonthaveanose  Před 5 lety +1

      That's so uncanny! That roadrunner level- Level 14- I originally discussed for a little longer but it wound up getting cut last minute because it felt so long and drawn-out. But I talked about two different ways you can procure the sheep, even though there is only one way you're supposed to do it, but it's not made clear enough imo. I noticed the PC version looks a lot better. Thanks again for watching! :D I love this game.
