- In this combo review, both Publisher Tim Esterdahl and Managing Editor Jill Ciminillo get behind the wheel of the new 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor to see if it works for the country or just a city truck. Jill has an XLT trim and Tim has a Lariat. You can see those differences and more in this video.

Ordered a Lariat Tremor fully loaded, Lux package, Co-Pilot 360, sunroof & all the bells & whistles, it checks all the boxes for me. I'm retired & have no need for a full-size truck. I've had Rangers, F150 Supercrews, so to me, this will do the job. Everyone's talking about the towing capability at only 2K, not everyone who buys this truck has a need to tow, I'm not buying it to tow anything. if you're looking for towing capability, then buy a truck that will fill that need, same with the prize, if it's too much for your budget then don't buy it, it's that simple. There's a truck out there for everyone's needs, go find it & buy it.
Still looks like a super duty next to Jill
Was thinking the same
Not wrong
The Ford Maverick Tremor with only 2000 lb towing limit is an insult. FORD 🤣
My AWD Lexus RX450h can tow 3500 lbs!
My FX4 XLT Maverick has been outstanding. Getting 25 MPG in mixed driving, 28 MPG on road trips. FX4 has the higher ground clearance and the standard AWD system is plenty fine in snow/rain and for light off-roading. Perfect commuter & weekend activity vehicle and useful for the DIY weekend Home Depot warrior.
I see no need for the Tremor with the FX4 being a better value.
Agree and the Tremor with a downgraded towing of only 2000lbs is a total off road joke!
Here in Colorado Rocky Mountains the advanced Tremor package is totally dysfunctional with a 2000 lb tow rating. The fastest off road market is camping off grid with 3500 to 5000 tow rating vehicles.
The superior Hyundai Santa Cruz top two trims have a 5000 lb tow ratings and are doing fine in upper limit in off road towing.
I glad you like your FX4, but the Tremor is better for off roading. Its an inch taller than the FX4 and a different front bumper than the FX4 with a better approach angle. The rear end is completely different it from the Bronco sport with locker, 4 wheel lock, and trail control. It also comes with a different interior.
I like the price of the FX4, but I off road and I m not rich, and I will have a payment on mine so breaking it is not an option.
@@icare7151 go off reading in the Santa Cruz, thats a joke. The Cvt get real hot 🔥, try towing 4000 with the Santa Cruz and let me know how well you do on Colorado. 👍
@@icare7151 Santa Cruz lol good luck with that.
@@marklihsu Here in the Colorado Rocky Mountains the Santa Cruz is very popular off road here and with its 5000lb tow rating it rules over the Maverick!
I like the fact they upgraded the 4wd but no 4k tow with this package. I guess I will have to make due with my under $30k XLT FX4 4K tow for now... already racked up over 22k miles so far!
$33k to $36k seems expensive until you look at the Hyundai Santa Cruz pricing.
I have a xlt fwd maverick I love it 34 mpg 2.0 it’s just a great little truck with a lot of room inside and enough room in the bed for the wife to haul her crap
I want to put the price in perspective for everyone out there. My 2011 Ford Ranger Sport edition (2wd) stickered at roughly $24,000. Adjusted for inflation it's $31,764 for a two wheel drive, 4.0 six cylinder engine, extended cab with cloth seats. No crew cab, no off road package, no leather, no backup camera, no touch start, no keyless entry. That's what roughly $5,000 gets you.
Oh, and the payload is roughly the same (20-30 pounds difference).
Thanks for the review guys. 👍
Love the perspective!
That was MSRP i presume? Were there any incentives at the time? I know back at least in the mid 2000's there were literally $5-10k in incentives sometimes (my Focus had around $4800 iirc).
But going from the teaser first run for 20k then one year later offer 16k in refinements. That's the hard pill to swallow.
@@michaelglenn2468 I'm with you on this, but I also understand that there's a whole bunch of people who scream for these packages. (It still kills me to know people were calling GM demanding Chevy put leather in the Colorado, and don't forget the group that called Stellantis, saying they wanted a bespoke Ram 3500 to match their swanky travel trailer.)
@@ALMX5DP Yes there were and if the economic situation was the same today, for would still have them.
In the XLT Tremor trim I ordered in fall 2022, the Luxury Package included two key fobs and heated seats, steering wheel and mirrors. I live in Canada, though, and we tend to get slightly different packages than in the U.S. For example, the seats for Canadian Maverick Tremors are all vinyl. I would have prefered cloth, same as you!
Perhaps there should be 2 Maverick editions:
1. The Maverick City Slicker
2. The Maverick Country Squire
Absolutely nowhere to put my water bottle, then stick it in the cup holder, 😂🤦
Unless you have 4 bottles/cups, which I did 🤷🏻♀
I loveeeee my 2024 XLT tremor
I’m a new CZcamsr and just bought the Maverick Hybrid for long term testing. I have the Tremor on the way. I got the XLT, glad to see the comparison you two did. Great stuff folks!
Like the two trim levels comparison in one video. Very well done!! The only thing that I think FORD should offer in ANY trim is a tailgate step (Similar to the F150 and SuperDuty line). Otherwise, the Maverick is really cool.
I'm geting ready to buy a van for 2023
To live in…. Down by the river?
I e always owned a pickup and a car, currently 3/4 pickup and a wagon.
But..... Why buy car when you can buy a Maverick with car mpg?
Just waiting for the PLUG 🔌 in hybrid with AWD
I'm reading that Ford is considering introducing the Ranchero (2-dr) with a bigger truck bed.
The road and wind noise is atrocious.
My sister tested this, the 22 Santa Cruise, and a 22 Ridgeline. She went with the Ridgeline Elite. She lives in the mountains and gets 24 mpg mixed and 29 highway with 500 lbs of gear.
She likes the smoothness of the Honda v6 and smoother ride.
She really loves it.
And she also paid $10000 more for the Ridgeline
9:00 The Luxury package on the XLT has the leather wheel with heating and seat heat as well.
Clean well done!!
I think the water bottle issue is legitimately invalid. Use the cup holders or buy bottles that fit in the doors, plenty of mavericks owners and sources about mavericks give you examples of what bottles fit and don’t fit. Also, Lux package for XLT gives you heated seats and steering wheel. Also, yea 20k to 36k is a large bump but look at almost any other vehicle, or compact truck, or midsize truck, and tell me the bump from the base model to a tremor, or base model to the most off roady version.
Thanks for the review! I have two Mavericks ordered (1 hybrid and 1 awd 4k tow) and they still can’t tell me if and when I’ll be getting one. At least they haven’t cancelled my order yet lol. But at this point their competitors will be coming out with small trucks by the time mine get built. 🤷♂️
Aaron, I got one of each I show on my channel. At 2 trucks for the price of one full size, it solves the dilemma of which to get. Hybrid for city mpg. Turbo AWD for 4k tow and max capability.
In part 2 of my OC to PC series, I show how all 12 water spots only hold skinny bottles, which are not as common. The solution you will see is I use the FITS trash can located behind the center console, not for trash but for wide bottles.
24:31 You know me well Obi-Wan Kanobi.
It doesn't have a dampener because the cable adjust the height of the gate when you add plywood so it types up.
Nice intro segment. The Ford advertising folks should hire you for the Ads.
Drone footage is the best.
Why do people say they can't get them? They have some close to where I live for sale?
Love mine
As with any top trim, it’s going to be as expensive as something that may be in a class above.
Wonder if they could beef up the front end so you could put a 48/54” snow blade on it?
A snow blade on a Maverick? Huh. Never even considered that one.
@@Pickuptrucktalk you wanted to use it to drag out your deer, I’d like to clean the driveway and get rid of my side by side
@@dougkaspar9756 It isn’t a bad thought by any means. I just have never heard of that idea. It could work.
Nice if you can find one.....
Special order only. The
only time a dealer has one is when the person who ordered didn't want the truck when it came in.
Fuel economy numbers?
Booyah 👊 😁 👍 🇺🇲 🇲🇽🇨🇦
I love it.
I want to like the Tremor but it seems Ford always screws up somewhere on the vehicle to end up causing you big bucks down the road. Head gaskets on the 2.0 l. Does it have a intake fuel injector to help with intake soot buildup? Has Ford fixed there transmission issues?
But my biggest issue is the interior just looks cheap. Time will tell if Ford has built a worthwhile vehicle.
just an FYI you can get all the luxury items like heated seats and leather wheel and mirror and power seats from Lariat in the XLT luxury package... This isnt an apple to apple companions. If you equip the XLT with all the luxury options it is still 4k less or more then the lariat which really only gives you a push start, leatherette seats and a minor upgrade to B and O which sucks anyways.. LOL.. Just dig a bit deeper into features and packages when doing a comparison review.
Yea I agree, seems like for reviewers, they didn’t do their homework IMO. No dig on them, I’m sure they are busy researching other vehicles that they are reviewing but this was a poor job IMO.
@Christian My channel specializes in Mav content. I am a rookie but trying to be different than the reviewers who get a loaner they don't know details about, and make you stare at them most of the video.
Only took a year for Ford to make a budget truck into a damn near $40,000 truck.
im waiting for the maverick raptor
One more trim difference: the Lariat trim has the power sliding rear window (window over the bed), the XLT does not.
if your biggest gripe is that your water bottle doesnt quite fit and that you have to ' Labor 'putting a key in a key hole, well, lifes just a Bit** isnt it ...
The Maverick is a nice truck.
I’m not a fan of the interior
08:30, Complains that there is no where to put oversized water bottles.. as one is in the cup holder and another in the armrest. 🤦🏼♂️
I don’t know what you call it, but I liked the thingy on that car. So cute things
its a cheap little truck, if you wanna spend money go buy a raptor or f150 platinum, ford is the only company with this truck size coupled with the many packages and options, hyundai santa cruz is ok but lacks in options and packages.
Those water bottles do fit. It's designed to "*snap in'". Great video otherwise.
It's a nice looking truck, but at that price I think I would rather have a base F-150 SCAB XL.
Ford, we have a 20k truck for sale. And never sale at 20k. Cant even keep up with demand, so we make 30k models instead
I think the ford keys are very flimsy feels like it’s going to break
Below 20 mpg is terrible. I’m getting 25 highway 3.5 eb f150 driving 70 mph.
And you have a real truck with real World towing capabilities. The Tremor only has a 2000 lb tow rating!
Lol it's a brand new vehicle. They don't have the engine broken in. I was getting low 20s when I first got mine. XLT with fx4. After 10k miles I'm getting over 32 mpg highway easy.
25 seems a bit high for a 3.5 EB (unless its a regular cab 2wd or something). If that is from the onboard computer, I suggest hand calculating and changing your AFE bias.
@@ALMX5DP It's a 2wd super cab and it was calc at the pump. The onboard computer says 27 mpg but that appears a bit generous.
@@michaelriecher5632 gotcha, nice. Well depending on year if you wanted the onboard computer to match there are some pretty easy instructions on how to enter engineering mode and change the AFE (average fuel economy) bias to match what you see at the pump. Mine was generous too by a couple mpg so I have it set to like 967/1000.
Did you guys need to pay someone to start your cars for you when you were teenagers since push button start was extremely rare then?
Funny! I actually like knowing my switchblade key is in the ignition and not lost between the seats. You can see over 100 Mav videos on my channel.
Is she just tiny or the maverick is really big?
We call her the 5’ wonder of the world! She’s about the size of an average 10 year old.
@@Pickuptrucktalk lol thats why im shocked whats going on with the maverick
Ecoboost v. Hybrid... that is the question.
I solved that dilemma by buying one of each I show on my channel. I hope my videos help you.
Why show this Truck you can not order it! The truck that tim has is vinyl seats on the Lariat not leather! I have ,a order in since September of 2022 dealertold me I have a 18 month wait.
Interesting, didn’t know Ford was doing the faux leather approach like others have been doing. Sucks that it’s taking so long for the ordering process.
Get a Hyundai Santa Cruz Limited. It has a 5000 tow rating.
Technically you can ordered, I ordered one this year and so did you apparently. Now it’s just a waiting game which everyone knows going into this.
That thing looks huge in the hands of a Lil lady
Tim gets the elitist, very upscale lariat trim while Jill gets the very plebeian, for the unwashed masses, xlt trim? That’s just not right.
LOL. Well, I’m the boss, so…
Unfortunately still made in mexicxo...NO SALE!
Shame on you.
Tacomas are all made in TJ. I don't think the robots that make vehicles on the assembly line know what country they are in.
That thing looks like a tank compared to her
Looks pretty tiny inside and cheap.
Tim Ford called. They dont want you killing any deer and using there truck to haul there carcasses home.
WHAT?!? LOL
The whole thing is a full deal breaker for me
You promised off-road.
ActiveX on Lariat, not leather.
I was excited to watch a video on Ford models... 8 seconds in "Ford Maverick".... PASS. Lol!
I think the maverick has it's place.. (I have been a huge fan of the Ridgeline for its target audience)... but "Tremors" and "Lairiats" and all that stuff... not needed for a commuter truck.
OMG Who the heck cares about a water bottle.....first world problem...more time spent on water bottles than anything else.
Anyone buying anything higher than an XL trim is wasting their money.
😂 why?
I never was a ford fan so don’t interest me at all
Can I get the tremor without the stupid stitching in the seats and ugly ass logos? LOL the branding is terrible.
