  • In this Nightscape Photography adventure we try to capture Orion in HaRGB. We are looking for revenge on a cloudy night we experienced a month before. Our night of astrophotography continues at a familiar location on the Dutch coast where we find a great opportunity to shoot the Cygnus Region of the Milky Way and foreground from the same tripod position. Will we succeed?

    Nice work Guys! LOL, I complain more about clouds than anything, my wife says! I shoot nightscape from SoCal and Maui, and I cracked-up at the "revenge" idea! Over here, we call them "Skunk Trips". Loved that red in that final, that astro-modify, did you do that yourself to the sensor? Or is that a filter? Similar to the Nikon D810a ? I just subscribed. Keep up the fun stuff!

    • @StarScaperPhoto
      @StarScaperPhoto  Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks so much and welcome to the channel! SoCal, jaelous! I got various books of a photographer called Troy Paiva who shoots and lightpaints the abandoned stuff around that area. My dream is to learn and combine that sometime with nightscape photography. And ok then, Skunk Trips it is haha! The mod I let someone else do. It is indeed basically removing the infrared blocking filter and putting back a new filter which blocks the IR but passes the visible/regular light + Hydrogen Alpha light from nebulae. In this case I also used an ha clip in filter to give that an extra boost.

I seen Paiva's stuff he does find some great foregrounds! I tell people Nightscape Photography has only 3 requirements. 1st- Set the Camera. 2nd- Know you will stub toes and bump your head in the dark. 3- Don't scream and wake up people WHEN you do! Otherwise, the real work is in Post! LOL! Glad to meet you!!

    • @StarScaperPhoto
      @StarScaperPhoto  Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks! Sometimes I aim for tue brightest thing in the sky, for example Jupiter and on a high iso it just about shines through. In this case I wanted to leave my composition so I just made some testshots and adjusted the focus bit by but between them until I was happy.

    Jeroen another great adventure video!
    May I ask a question about this H Alpha Filter stuff.
    Why does the filter have to be attached in front of the sensor?
    It seems quite dangerous fiddling around so close to the sensor.
    Why arent there filters for the Lense.
    I dont see much of a difference.
    Other Filter like UV influence also certain bandwiths, but there it is ok to put the filter in front of the lense * head scratch
    Greetings

      @StarScaperPhoto  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Thanks! Mostly because they are very expensive to make. This small thing costs over 300 euro's already. There are version available though to put in front of the lens. I have no experience in their quality however.

    • @StarScaperPhoto
      @StarScaperPhoto  Před 5 měsíci +1

      You know what? I have actually been thinking about this the afternoon, and I think that it might also have to do with the history of ha filter use. Especially some years ago ha-filters were mainly used for deep sky photography. A DSLR camera (or mirrorless, or dedicated astro cam, but for the sake of the example...) was then attached to a telescope. It might have made more sense to just make a clip in filter which would suit all telescopes in stead of 20 different sizes of telescope filter threads... which telescopes don't even have most of the time to begin with. The other variants were screw in filters (for example 2") to screw in somewhere else in your whole imaging train. For wide angle photography the use of ha filters has been more niche and therefore probably hardly worth the efforts of manufacturers to produce so many different sizes. Just a thought...

      @@StarScaperPhoto that would definitively be interesting to see and thanks a lot for your time ! and astro modified just means attaching that filter or is there still anything else. But I just wait for the video :-P #nopressure

    • @StarScaperPhoto
      @StarScaperPhoto  Před 5 měsíci

      @@bienenhonig2105 an astromodified camera means that your infrared filter in front of the sensor has been removed. After that it is more sensitive to h-alpha light. If you want an extra boost of h-alpha you can additionally attach an ha filter to blend that layer in later. I've also done a tutorial on that on the channel.
