    Man that galaxy class war refit is a beast. I wonder how it would do against the stock Sovereign class?

      @@adamlee2111 I'll say this for the record, my personal feeling is the Sov would win (all things being equal) but the Galaxy Refit would put up a hell of a fight and the Sov would at best limp away.

      @@cannabiscomet4410 I’m just inclined to go with that, I’ll balance the sovereign so that it wins but would need scrapping afterwards

    A Galaxy class at it's finest. The class was retired too soon.

      They supposedly had a 100 year service life so what happened to them? I don’t like how Picard got rid of the classic ds9/voy designs: by the early 2400’s most of these classes would still be in service

      @@adamlee2111 I think in the case of the Galaxy class it was partly a resource thing and partly technological miniaturization. And Intrepid class can do most of what the Galaxy class can, just with less endurance/range and with less focus on diplomacy and more exploration. A Sovereign class does everything a galaxy class can do including diplomacy, just with more of a focus on combat/defense. Seeing as how both these class's of ships are less resource intensive, thus taking less time to build, the Galaxy class basically got phased out as an "expensive" unnecessary build. That said, while new builds of the Galaxy class aren't being constructed, the existing one's should still be around in 2405. It's possible that with the other ships being built, they were FINALLY sent on ACTUAL deep space extended missions of exploration and expansion(their intended purpose). They can go on something like 10 year missions without any support. Then the rest of the fleet can take on the more "local" missions.

      @@adamlee2111 Agreed, we should have seen plenty of Steamrunners, Sabers and Akiras around as the previous generation ships which are still capable. By this point the Galaxy, Nebula, New Orleans classes would be similar to the Ambassador/Excelsior classes in DS9

    A warbird simply cannot repel that kind of phaser power.

  • @Hitman-zp5wi
    @Hitman-zp5wi Před 2 měsíci

    Eh the Warbirds lasted longer than they should have
    The Galaxy class ships that received the venture refit or the war variant had the same kind of regenerative shields that the sovereign had as well as armor around critical systems and an upgraded warp core to provide more power
    The reason it needed that upgraded warp core was because of the shields, the upgraded maneuvering thrusters And it mounted six type 12 block 5 phasers the ones on top of the nacells the two rear firing ones on the back of the saucer and the primary Frazier on the ventral and dorsal hull the rest were type 11x5’s
    To put that into perspective, typically speaking only star bases mounted type 12 phaser arrays because they could bore through the shields of most ships in seconds and the venture refit had six of them

      @adamlee2111  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I’m not sure about that, a standard galaxy and a d’deridex were about equal, I can’t imagine the War galaxies were more than twice as powerful as a standard galaxy. I’d put them about 30-40% more powerful

    • @Hitman-zp5wi
      @Hitman-zp5wi Před 2 měsíci

      @@adamlee2111 but the thing that you’re missing, is that standard galaxy class ships only had type 10 phasers they did not have regenerative shields like this sovereigns They did not have ablative hull armor around critical systems and they didn’t have the upgraded maneuvering thrusters

      @@adamlee2111 actually the base galaxy is incredibly underpowered for its size, with so much space onboard dedicated for science and exploration, there isn't a lot of weapons on the ship for its size. Its worth noting the Sovereign inst really all that much more advanced than the galaxy, only about ten years or so, but the sovereign, despite being less than half the mass of the galaxy more than doubles its fighting capability. So if a galaxy dedicated the same proportion of its mass to weapons and protection as a Sovereign it would easily be 4 to 5 times more powerful.

      No the shields look to be the Achilles heel of the War Galaxy. They're about the same as a regular version. So she has firepower, but the defense is lacking. Glass cannon.
